Walmart puts another a bid under its shares
Wal-Mart Stores Inc, (NYSE:WMT) the World’s largest retailer, plans to repurchase US$15B of its shares, the Company announced Friday at its 41st annual meeting of shareholders.
The buyback replaces the previous US$15B share repurchase program, announced on June 4, 2010. Through June 2, under the 2010 program, Walmart had spent more than US$12.9B to buyback more than 244Mshrs, the Company said in a statement.
“Our purchase of almost US$13B Walmart stock since last June is indicative of our strong free cash flow position,” said Charles Holley, Walmart EVP and CFO, “We are pleased to continue our share repurchase program with this new US$15B authorization.”
In addition to share repurchase, the Company continues to return value to shareholders through dividends. Walmart increased the current F-Y dividend per share by approximately 21% to US1.46, from US$1.21 in F-Y 2011, plus during Q-1 of this year, the Company distributed US$1.3B in dividends.
