CAR WASH! Any tips???!?
Apr 01, 2009 by ^_^ | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Is there any tips on washing a car? Okay im going to wash cars one of these days jaja, but is there anyway to make the cars look clean, spotless, dirt-free or sparkly???
I'm no expert for cleaning cars but when they expect to see me they're going to handle me the supplies..materials..watev o wash the car and probably I'm not scrubbing it right? or rubbing it off?Anything for a clean car?WEll, thanks:)
Start by rinsing the car thoroughly. Always start at the top (roof) and work your way down weather your rinsing or washing. Make shure that when u get 2 the wheels you do the wheel wells. Lots of dirt builds up in there. Use a quality wash mit not a sponge! There are lots of different car soaps out there. You want to use a basic soup, one that just cleans and is safe for Clear coat Paint. When you start to wash the car work from top down. use lots of soapy water, that means keep dipping that mitt in the bucket of soapy water. Overlap your strokes or cover the area again to ensure you got all areas. And take your time.
Take one panel of the vehicle at a time. This will make it easier. Good luck

1. Get yourself some "No Rinse" car wash
2. Fill a gallon bucket with warm water and add a few ounces of the no rinse into it.
3. Spray the car straight from the hose to rinse off the large debris.
4. Now with a micro-fiber cloth or a sponge wash one panel at a time and them immediately wipe it dry with a dry micro-fiber cloth.
5. Continue through the rest of the car.
6. You're done.
I can wash my car like this in less than 20 minutes.

Scratches in the paint of a new, black car? Plus washing tips?
Jun 08, 2007 by unlvraptor | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Asking this on behalf of my cousin:
I have a black car and i wash it a lot. 2x a week to be exact,
I use soap, a regular towel, either a beach towel or one you use after the shower. But the car looked like it had little scratches in the paint. I mean, this is my BRAND NEW CAR. I'm pretty upset because I'm trying my best to keep it looking good. So i was told to get either a baby blanket or a towel that is 100% cotton, so I got the towel that is 100% cotton. and I just washed my car, and it did it again. It leaves water spots. I wash and rinse twice when I wash my car. I try to get all the water spots but it seems impossible.
So, if anyone has any suggestions on keeping my baby sweet looking it would be gladly appreciated. Oh...one more thing. I'm not the richest kid in the town so maybe some ideas that aren't too expensive would be even better.
When I wash my black car I use
a) Meguire's gold class car wash
b) dry with a chamois
c) finish with a 100% cotton towel - Made in the USA -not China
or
a micro-fiber towel.
Unfotunately, both of those towels are expensive, but the micro-fiber is great - It won't scratch the car and it does not leave behind lint.
I am sorry I don't know of any cheap solutions.
Oh - are you waxing the car?

Rinse before washing it.... every time. Use car wash soap (not household detergent), LOTS of water and gently with a clean wash mitt. Dry the car with a chamois... a clean one, and do it in the shade, never in the sun. It may take several trips over the surface with the chamois to get all the water and subsequent water spots off the finish. After this is all done you're still going to have scratches... welcome to the world of clearcoat finishes. Most of the scratches are microscopic in nature and are the result of scratching the "clearcoat" on the paint which then seems to magnify the scratch. Stop by your local body shop and see what they advise in the form of a mild polish to eliminate even more of the "scratches". Meguire's, along with several others, have polishes for this purpose.
Generl rule of thumb... drag your nail across the "scratch". If you can feel it it is probably going to need refinishing. If you cannot then it will usually come out with the mild polish.

How much to tip at a car wash?
Oct 01, 2006 by OOO7BOND | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
i got my car washed and shampooed interior stuff, the works, today the total was $70. and i tipped the guy 2 dollars. now that i think about it was it too little.the sun wasnt out or it wasnt hot.but he did work hard to get every nook and cranny.any input apprecaited....i thought two was good?maybe i was wrong.
It's sad to say, but a tip should generally reflect the car you drive. If you're rolling in a new 911, you should tip more than say, if you were in a '90 Toyota Corolla.
The 15% rule can be used here. Most importantly though, the tip should reflect the service.

I'd tip him about $20.00

I don't know. I wouldn't pay someone $70 to clean my car so--
Anyway when I go and get washed and waxed I usually give the remainder of my cash as a tip. ie: Wash is $9.00 so I give a $1 tip. The other day it was raining so I gave $2 because they hand dry my car and did so regardless of the weather. $70? hummm raining? hummm, I would have left at least a $5 (even though that might have been perceived as cheap by the car wash employee's).
[Isn't hind sight great?]

Car washing tips???
Feb 29, 2008 by D Fresh | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
I realize hand washing a car is best but I just don't have the time. I use only do it yourself car washes because the automatic car washes don't do a good job. What is the best way (and in what order) to get a car really clean and shiny with these options:
-Tire and Wheel Cleaner
-Presoak
-Brush Foam (I try not to use this cuz I've heard it could scratch if there is trash in the brush)
-Soap Wash
-Rinse
-Wax
-Spot Free Rinse
The fact is, you can only get your car relatively clean with self serve wand wash. you won't be able to get it shinny without hand washing. trying to do it with wand wash would just be a waste of time and money. expecially if you have a black or white car.
I hand wash whenever i can. But if i don't have time or when the weather is bad, I use wand wash.
When I do wand wash, I simply Soap Wash the whole car from top to bottom and then Rinse from top to bottom. Takes me 3 mins to wash. And then I pad dry my car with a dedicated clean soft towel. Car comes out relatively clean. Looks shinny from a distance.
Mind you that I very rarely get my car extremely dirty before I go for a wash. And waxing your car regularly will make washing easier.
You're correct not to use the brush.

Do you tip the car wash attendant at a car wash?
Sep 12, 2006 by Johnny C | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I just bought my car to wash at a car wash place (I live in an apartment so I cant do it myself! Normally I would) I saw people tipping the person who hands them their keys. I had no cash on me so I just embarrassingly gave him my reciept and said thanks. I felt bad because I really dont know if I'm suppose to or not...
I tip around 10 to 15 percent depending on the quality of the job they did. If they did a horrible job, do not feel badly. You should find that almost all people in service-type jobs will do at least a fair job, so they should get a tip. They put up with a lot from picky people and those who hold them in low regard.

It needs to be washed desperately, but you are in a hurry, and decide to put a few coins in the automated carwash down the road.
