I opened my car one morning as saw droppings all over my seats. I want to know how to clean my car properly, as I don't know if the mouse actually urinated on the seats as well. Everywhere I go it says to bleach wherever there have been mice, but how am I supposed to do that if I don't want to ruin the upholstery? Will a rug doctor do the trick and disinfect the upholstery as well? What chemicals do you recommend? The upholstery is all cotton and washable.
Steam cleaning should definitely do the trick (it should lift out all stains and urine). I wouldn't go too crazy with harsh chemicals. Don't forget you are going to be driving this car with the windows up and you don't want to be inhaling anything too harsh. I would just use something that kills germs effectively in the steam cleaner and you should be fine. Give it plenty of time to dry before you use the car. Good luck!

You're right about the BLEACH; it will ruin your seats. You're also right about the rug doctor. Get it with the upholstery attachment. Do not use as much detergent as they recommend and add about a 1/4 cup of oxyclean to the tank. The oxyclean will kill germs and eliminate any odours. You may have to vacuum when you are done to get rid of the oxyclean residue (white powder).
I had a car with baby urine soaked into the rear seat. After the oxyclean there was no urine smell in the car and it never returned.

How to get the inside of a car looking like new?
Dec 11, 2007 by Kristy | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Where do the dealerships go to get the cars all cleaned out inside and looking/smelling new again?
We bought a car and the upholstery has been colored on, the rug has been stained with food/drinks, I tried cleaning it myself but it still looks dirty.
How do I totally revamp the inside, either by myself or taking it somewhere?
Most detail shops and dealerships use a combination of chemicals, and steam or hot water to clean the interiors of vehicles. In some cases, the seats and or the carpets are actually sprayed with dye, to cover up stains that will not come out!
Take your car to a detail shop. Expect to pay about $100 and they will make it look new!!

They are cloth. I have used shout and soapy water no to avail. I was thinking an upholstery cleaner or a small rug doctor type machine.
try what i used on my seats. mine are cloth too and i got some ( tuff stuff ) at auto zone. i think advance sells it too. it comes in a spray can and it worked good for me. it,s worth a try !

Invest in the Shannon Lush books she is a genius for cleaning things and she says there is no stain that can't be removed from any surface from any substance etc. I have her books and i can't believe who great she is, i think she has a web site to. I am always referring to her books for lots of things.
