WAPATO, Wash.-- Another local city council is considering new car tab fees to help pay for street repairs.
At this week's meeting, the Wapato City Council unanimously approved starting the process of forming what's called a Transportation Benefit District, that's required by state law before a car tab fee can be set up.
Mayor Jesse Farias says Wapato needs this car tab fee to fix streets. He says some of them are completely destroyed.
"We're like all the cities in the state of Washington, probably the nation. Out streets our in bad shape and the car tax was created by the state legislature to help maintain, or repair, or replace streets," said Mayor Farias.
Once legal papers are drawn up for the district the council will have to determine the condition of the streets and how much they would cost to fix.
From there, they would see if the $20 fee would cover the costs.
Farias says no one has come forward against the fee yet. In fact, people often say the roads need to be fixed.

will steam cleaning the exterior of my car hurt the paint?
May 25, 2009 by LeeLee22 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
If I use a steam cleaner to clean the dirt off the outside of my car will it hurt the paint? Does it scratch and does it remove all dirt or should I wash it with regular car wash after steaming? I saw a local detailing shop offering this service and wanted some feedback b/c I've never head of it before.
Why steam clean? Conventional methods of car washing do a fine job. And I'm sure the hot steam can't be very good for exterior plastics (bumpers, trim, tail lights, etc.) and may even crack glass and loosen the windshield seal. Steam is also one method of stripping paint and so if you happen to have any areas of loose paint it will probably strip it.

possibly -discuss this with the shop employees to be sure.

as long as it,s not fresh paint then it should,nt hurt it but you better wash it down first with soap because it might not remove it without soaping it down first.

Steam cleaning will certainly not help the paint, and could damage the surface. I think you may have seen an ad for steam cleaning the engine, which is actually hot water close to 212 degrees...

steam cleaning?
its just a gimmic..
a regular wash will do just as good, if not better
and if you dont wax your car ( which most likely you dont)
youre doing more damage to your paint, than steam cleaning will do anyways

Depends. If you have chips/flakes in the paint then I wouldn't do it. With the high pressure of the cleaners then it could peel the paint off with ease. Make sure they don't use an acidic soap, if they do it could eat your clear coat, and tarnish aluminum rims if you have them. Other than that you should be fine. I do it to my personal vehicle if I just need to knock a little dirt off with the quickness.

I left my heat on during a car wash and now there's smoke coming off my radiator, can it be just steam?
Mar 22, 2007 by Rosa | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
It was nighttime so I couldn't tell if it was smoke or just steam. I left the car running for a while hoping it was just water that got in/on the radiator. Am I on the right track? Do I need a mechanic?
More than likely it is just steam. You had no problems with seeing any steam before you decided to wash the car.So to be sure. After you have shut the car off for a while, and engine is totally cooled.Check the overflow canister in the engine compartment for coolant level. If no fluid, add to the recommended level.Use a mixture of 50/50 anti-freeze and water. If the canister is already full. You are fine. But I'm sure it was just steam.Run the vehicle again until totally warm and check level again. If still in doubt.Check with a local repair garage.

More than likely it is just steam and you do not need a mechanic to watch the water turn to steam.

Probably just steam! Wait for an hour or so for the water to dry, then check on it again, just to make sure.

my new small business is car washing by steam jet, any advice? is it good and safe for cars?
Nov 11, 2006 by snns_m | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
It is safe everywhere i the car but the engine. Stay away from the engine with high pressure. You would force water into places where it should not go. Steam or no steam. I would use it on MY own car since I know exactly where to apply the pressure, but never on someone else's car.
