Star Navigation Announces Completion of DO-160E Testing
21.05.12
("Star" or
the "Company"), is very pleased to announce that final DO-160E
testing on its STAR-ISMS(R) Generation 2 Unit ("G2") has now been
completed.
RTCA-DO-160E qualification testing is an essential element of
Supplemental Type Certificate ("STC") application, required for
installation of the STAR-ISMS(R) on a commercial aircraft. The G2,
built to Star's specifications, was designed and manufactured for
Star by Luxell Technologies Inc., incorporates additional and
upgraded features, is smaller and lighter than the original In-Flight
Safety Monitoring System and can be offered at a lower price point.
The certification testing process in the aviation industry is very
complex and rigorous. It is this milestone achievement that will
shortly enable Star Navigation to fulfill existing sales requirements
and move forward to procuring more sales.
The first installation of the new G2 is expected to take place aboard
a Midwest Airlines (Egypt), Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with STC
approval expected in February. Star appreciates Midwest Airlines'
patience as we have worked to finalize the new G2 product.

Is it possible to install a built-in navigation in a Mazda RX-8?
May 11, 2007 by coastelsurfer@sbcglobal.net | Posted in Mazda
I am purchasing a 2004 Mazda RX-8 automatic model without a navigation system. It was the only one I could find that I liked. I really wanted a navigation system in it but no luck in that . Do you know if there is any way you can purchase the original system that came with the cars with built-in navigation afterwards?
It's way too expensive and not really worth it. The navi systems are generally not installed by the dealer. Just wait for a navi equipped car to become available. Expand your search radius. Buy the car you really want instead of piecing it together.
It requires a special harness and the dvd rom unit alone costs like $1500 used and the navigation disc is around $500. After that you may have to have the dealer erase and re flash the pcm with what they call the "as built data" from an RX8 with navi pcm because the navi unit communicates on the car's CAN network and a non navi car does not have the right pcm version. It may work without the as built data but you may have erroneous engine light codes regarding pcm to module communication. Long story short, it is possible but you may want to search longer for a navi equipped car. If you cannot wait, buy an aftermarket navi unit.

yes, you can buy an aftermarket. check out alpine, their the best!
tison28s | May 11, 2007
Oh yea no prob...your wording kind of confused me a little. You want to put an aftermarket navigation system in right? You can take your car to the dealership and they should be able to do that there. If nothing else they could direct you to the right place.
Props on the car, i like manuals though :)

Not the Mazda one. It will be a fortune and not worth it in any way.
The guy above me is correct. Wait for the one you want.

Is it possible to install a built-in navigation in a Lexus IS 250?
Sep 02, 2009 by Sh0rTii | Posted in Lexus
I am purchasing a 2006 Lexus IS 250 automatic model without a navigation system. It was the only one I could find that I liked. I really wanted a navigation system in it but no luck in that . Do you know if there is anyway you can purchase the original system that came with the cars with built-in navigation after wards, also around how much would it cost and would i need to go to the Lexus dealer to install it?
The price would be astronomical. It would be at least 10000 dollars, and that's to start. You need a Nav Disc, a Nav Unit, a Nav computer, a new radio and new wiring behind the dashboard. If money is an object to you, do not do it. This would be like a factory installed navigation, not aftermarket. I am sure you could find aftermarket navigation for a lot less.

honestly, for what your looking for its going to cost a lot. I mean i installed a GPS navi on my GS300 1999 but its stock radio was horrible. If you want the stock navigation look, and all those features you shouldve saved up for it, because unless you like the aftermarket look it will cost you a lot of money. If your going to the dealer for anything good luck, jordans price above is a little extreme but if your going threw the dealer, yea 10k is a good rip off dealer price tag. If you go aftermarket look around at good sound shops with audio engineers.

You should wait and get one that has the navigation you are wanting. Otherwise, you will be out of a lot of money to try to retrofit your car.

How can I make the in-built satellite navigation system in my Toyota Prius work?
Jul 15, 2007 by sharifjunaid | Posted in Toyota
The screen states that it requires an 'external connection'. What does this mean and how can I make it work?
It means three things:
1) You are driving a 2001, 2002, or 2003 model year Prius.
2) You bought it used, otherwise you'd already know the answer.
3) The car that you own did not come equipped with a navigation system. That was a $2100 option on those model years.
Regardless of whether the car has the navigation system installed or not, all those model years have the buttons on the dashboard for the navigation system. If you push one of those buttons on a car that does not have the navigation system installed, then you get the error message you mentioned.
Look under both of the front seats. The navigation system, if it is present, is typically found under the right front seat. My guess is you'll find nothing there, other than crumpled-up fast food wrappers and an old french fry or two. Sorry.
It is possible, but extremely expensive, to add the navigation system to a car that didn't have it originally. The entire dashboard needs to be ripped apart, for starters. Plan on spending $4000 to do it, due to many hours of labor charges.
...or go buy a TomTom or Garmin for a fraction of the price, although it won't use the Prius' built-in touchscreen.

It means you need to call your dealership and ask for advice. It sounds like something is not working correctly.
ZCT | Jul 15, 2007
There's an old saying...it's RTFM.
Read the manual.
shelcom | Jul 15, 2007
If you bought it recently than you should have a navigation DVD that should enable the navigation system.

round how much will it cost to get a built in navigation system installed in my 2002 Nissan Altima? possible? ?
Sep 26, 2008 by Burberry | Posted in Car Audio
is this possible? what are the average prices for things like this?
This depends on what you want from your navigation.
If you want it completely separate from the stereo and buy OEM it will get really expensive for a single function unit usually.
I suggest (at the price it would be to have OEM nav installed) purchasing a new headunit with multiple functionality. You'll spend about the same amount but get a lot more from your new stereo.
You will be looking to spend anywhere between $800 - $2000 depending on name brand and personal preference.

how to use built car navigation?
Oct 03, 2007 by never m | Posted in Car Audio
hi,
my car has a built in car navigation system. it has CD or DVD drive attached to it as well. im new to these systems and wonder how to use it.
This is really going to depend on what type of vehicle you have. The navigation system in a GM for example is much different than those found in a Toyota.
Most systems require you to "load" the nav data for the area you're in. Chances are the vehicle is already loaded with nav data for the area you purchased it from. Additional nav data can be acquired via the dealer, many online outlets, and again depending on the system via an online connection.
The best way to get familiar with your system is going to be to play with it. You're not going to hurt anything, you can't destory the nav system by adjusting settings and in general just playing around. If you want to really learn the details reference the manual that came with your vehicle. They are usually written in very easy to understand terminology.
You should be off the ground and using your nav system in no time. They are invaluable, especially if you take the time to learn how to use all the features. Most allow you to set hotspots (your home, office, etc), tell you about local restaurants, gas stations, etc. Very cool stuff.
