When I was learning to drive, I asked my dad to teach me to drive a stick, and he asked me why. As he explained, “You are putting automotive back thirty years, you don’t realize how glad I was to be able to put the key into the car and just take off without shifting.” I did not learn how to use a stick.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the electric car lost out to the combustible engine, and I wonder if we aren’t simply going back into time, or is the Volt or other alternative cars truly advances? It depends how you define progress. If you define progress as a car that reduced pollution from the tail pipe, then it is an advance. If you define progress on whether a car becomes more convenient to use, then the answer is no, this is not an advance.
When Fox's Eric Bolling took his Volt on test drive, the electric engine died after 25 miles, and it got me thinking what is so advanced about this automobile? The Chevy Volt batteries go 40 miles after a full charge, then it switches to a 1.4 liter engine to give the car another 300 miles. What you ask? The super Volt has a gas engine to ensure that it lasts beyond its initial 40 miles after a 10 hour charge? Yes that is right; the Volt has an additional engine to ensure that it is practical. It is essentially a hybrid, even though it is classified as a “series” hybrid as opposed to a parallel hybrid like the Prius. The Prius control unit switches from the engine to the battery pack constantly, whereas the Volt power kicks in when the battery is exhausted and the battery is exhausted in very quick order.
Understanding No Credit Check Bad Credit Auto Sales

Bad credit buying choices
It’s a fact that many credit-challenged car shoppers still believe their only choice for horrible credit auto loans is a buy here pay here dealer.
We know because for the last decade here at Auto Credit Express we’ve been helping these same buyers find a dealer. It’s also why our website explains issues such as interest rates for approved auto loans and repossession as well as today’s of why a no credit check car loan, although easier to qualify for, will not help as much as bad credit car loans where the lender will run your credit report.
No credit check auto loans
A no credit check car loan doesn’t require a qualifying credit score or a check of your credit in order for you to get approved. Since your FICO scores don’t matter, even if your credit history is really bad you can be instantly approved for an auto loan.
While loans like this are easy, there are a number of things to consider before applying for one of these “tote the note” loans:

Where is the cheapest but safest place to buy auto GPS navigation systems?

Garmin GPS only.
Do a bit of market research before buying. Here is how to do it.
First visit websites (there are a number...) that uses your computer ISP address to show you local stores in your area that sell WII. These stores have no shipping costs and offer the possibility or free exchange under garantee a.s.o

Then visit ebay or another auction and look at prices. Try to find if there is a better deal (remember shipping costs...)

which auto navigation gps to buy?
Dec 24, 2007 by case v | Posted in Car Audio
can't decide which auto navigation gps to buy! help! thanks !
Today's GPS units all work fairly well. The biggest difference used to be the maps, but even the maps are similar. User configurabilty and map update costs are important considerations. Most have internal batteries that last 2 to 8 hours and can be recharging (via the cigarette lighter socket) or a usb cable. There are not any subscription fees for using gps.
I like the TomTom One. The USA unit includes maps of US & Canada. In the box you will find a usb cable, a cigarette socket cable, and a suction cup mount for vehicle mounting. The box also includes an adhesive surface mount pad if you do not wish to locate the unit on the windshield in plain sight.
When you purchase your gps, the unit will come with up to date maps. In a year or two you may want to update these maps to reflect road changes. Map updates will typically cost about $50 dollars for the portable units like the TomTom.
Bottom line, you will be able to navigate from point A to point B with the unit in the box without any additional fee. If you are interested in a free way to use your gps to detect traffic cameras, look for free poi file directions on this page: http://www.a2dvoices.com/realitycheck/gp s/TomTomGPS.html

the best GPS is the one you can afford. The more you pay the better the futures
Example For about 100 you get a basic GPS. Small screen and it will get you there.
More money you get a help screen and a bigger screen at that.
More money a bigger screen, help, points of interest
So check out the futures and see if it fits just what you are looking for.

Garmin 276C It covers the land , Ocean , Air , any wear * U can update it with your computer. I update mine all the time when garmin comes out with an update. It's easy & self explainatory & even I can do it. Just plug one cable into the tower & click on what the screen says - takes about 2 minutes. even has ocean maps (blue screen) if u want.IT EVEN has DIRT roads on it - I know because it told me how to get 2 a farm that had NO paved roads anywhere near it.

Which one you want depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of features you want. If you're like me, you want an inexpensive model that tells me where to go. =D
I have a Tom Tom One 3rd edition GPS, which I got at Radio Shack for $162 incl. tax. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THE TOMTOM ONE! Here are some points about it:
The GOOD: It got a satellite signal quickly. Compact, easy mounting. Easy menus, choice of voices. Seemed to have POI's (Points of Interest) that were useful. Price was good too. It doesn't speak the name of the streets, and that's a good thing. If you're in a place you've never been, you won't be familiar where "1234 Cornucopia Street" is! Instead, it tells you, 'turn left in 200 ft." It really cuts down on making wrong turns.
The BAD: The routes it gave me to certain destinations weren't very good. For example, for two separate test locations (Starbucks and the Bank), it gave me very inefficient and slow routes. And I live in the city. Also, the Tom Tom One does not support Mac OSX. One thing I hated was that it had no AC Adapter, only a car charger and a USB cable, unlike other GPS products.
The VERY BAD:
When you power off your Tom Tom One and try to turn it back on, you will get the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH. (Google this, it's a problem many users have.) I got it too. The only thing you can do is a soft reset...EVERY time. Very annoying. And it wipes out my clock every time I do that. Also, it didn't even know what my street name was. It always says, "Unnamed street". (Haven't had a chance to update the maps, but hopefully that will fix it.)
Before I bought the Tom Tom One, I bought the Nextar C3, which was a horrible choice despite its reviews. Got no signal, and the menus froze. When I called the manufacturers on both the Tom Tom and Nextar, they said they knew about these problems, but they shipped the products out anyway. Pretty dispicable if you ask me.
Out of all my research, the GARMIN NUVI series seemed to be the best. If I had to do it over, I would skip the Tom Tom, which isn't even an American company, so who knows if its knowledge about US geography is as accurate as other companies. Good luck to you!

Where can I buy an auto-switching (auto-muting) source selector?
May 19, 2007 by Snowie | Posted in Car Audio
I have an aux-in on my car stereo, so far, it works great with my XM Roady XT. But I also have a PDA with a GPS software; which has an output for the voice prompts; also via a stereo jack. I do not like to hear my GPS prompts over my music, which is usually too loud anyway and my PDA's speakers are too soft. I want a device that automatically overrides my XM Roady's music whenever it senses a voice prompt coming from my GPS output. Is there such an auto-switching source selector in the market?
As a side note: buying a new GPS unit is out of the question. Plugging in a small set of speakers to my PDA is also out. And I'm not keen in switching between my XM and my GPS on that single Aux in jack manually. I'm looking for a simple, automated solution. Only an auto-switching source selector would do.
Check this product out:
http://speakercraft.com/#Products:171:LL -One
This will allow you to plug in two line level sources (XM and GPS) and have one as the default source and one that will interrupt the default only when a signal is present. You would probably have the XM as a default and the GPS as the one that will "cut in" when needed unless the GPS makes a lot of bleeps and clicks. This is designed for home use but uses a 12vdc adapter so it will work fine in a mobile audio application. It also has adjustable sensitivity and delay setting which can be really handy. This one is made by Speaker Craft but other companies also make them. It is called a "Line Level A/B Switcher". You may need 1/8" stereo to RCA cables to make this work, but they can be found at almost any Radio Shack. Good Luck!

Which auto GPS system is the best?
I'm looking into buying a GPS system for my pick up truck, I don't know anything about these things! So please help me out! And thank you in advance for any info you have to offer! I don't even know what questions to ask so if you need more input from me you'll have to ask me question. I would like a larger screen and for it to map out the USA and for it to talk to me so I don't have to red the text.

Can't go wrong with a Garmin - a perennial Consumer Reports top rated GPS brand. There are several models - you just have to determine what features you really need and go from there. The entry level models work well if you just need it to tell you how to get there and don't need all the bells & whistles of the more expensive units (like traffic updates, MP3 playability, bluetooth, etc, etc.)
The 4.3" screen works best if you want a larger screen.
Garmins in general are so refined and easy to use - you won't be sorry if you buy one.
