Need help with removal of brake pads on a buick regal custom?

I got the pads off but I am having a hard time getting them back on, the thing I need to compress to get it back on is not compressing. What do I do?

I assume the caliper piston is the problem.

Open the bleeder valve just enough to allow fluid to escape, use a C-clamp to push the piston back into the caliper housing. Once the piston is positioned, close bleeder valve, install pads and reinstall caliper. Top off master cylinder with clean brake fluid.

Be careful where you point caliper while pushing piston into caliper, brake fluid will be exiting bleeder valve.

do u have the cap/top off the fluid resoviour? fluid needs to go to compress pads

you need to get a 6" C clamp place old pad across the cylinder and use C clamp to compress it in

exactly what the poster above me said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can open the bleeder valve on the caliper when you compress the piston. Be sure to refill the reservoir. If they are rear brakes, you need to screw in the piston.

well you use a c clamp or you need a special tool that screws in the roter plunger...try this

It sounds so familiar, THE REAR DISC HAS A TOOL TO 'SCREW' THE PISTON BACK INTO THE CALIPER. Due to the rear brake using a park-brake system on it, the caliper needs to maintain close contact between the rotor and disc. This was done by using a 'RATCHETING ACTION' which keep the piston from moving the pads away from the disc too far at brake release.
THE PISTON SCREWS COUNTER CLOCK WISE TO RECESS INTO THE CALIPER. good-luck!!!

"BRILLIANT"!!!!

how do you change front brake pads on a 1997 Buick LaSabre?

My brother-in-law is convinced he needs an allen wrench to change the front brake pads on his car. The allen wrench is supposedly needed to remove a bracket that is holding the calipers in place. He thinks the calepers need to be removed to change brake pads. I've never experienced this, but i guess it could be true.

Most all General Motors cars, you would need to remove the calipers to change the pads. On many Japanese and European cars you don't have to. Most older GM calipers were held on by a pair of bolts with an "Allen" head, but most later models you will need a "Torx" bit.

The caliper bracket on these cars is an integral part of the steering knuckle, which cannot be removed, and removing the caliper will allow removal of the rotor. On some other cars the caliper bracket is removable, and would have to be removed to remove the rotor.

I do not know if he will need an allen wrench, but I do know he will need to remove the calipers to change the pads. Some calipers are mounted using standard bolts while some use clips, and others use allen screws.

ez remove wheels their is just to bolts u need a spacial key it looks like a star and your done

yes he will need an allen wrench to take two bolts out of the caliper that mounts the caliper to the spindle. the bolts are facing toward the car with the bolt heads facing the car. it is like this with almost every car that has disk brakes that i know of.

you do need to remove the calipers to change pads. you will need a brake caliper socket to use with a ratchet. the tool is used to remove the caliper bolts. you can't change pads without removing the bolts and the caliper. if the bolts have a male head you can use a normal socket to remove them but if it is female you will need to use that caliper socket. you could use an allen wrench but you need to create a tremendous amount of force to remove it and an allen wrench would be difficult. you need to compress the piston on the caliper once you have it off so installing the new pads will be easier. remember to support the caliper once it is off so that it doesn't hang by the brake hose. you can use a small bunge cord and attach it to the spring or somewhere out of the way. also remember to grease the caliper bolts before reinstalling them.

yes you must remove the calipers. Get the special allen socket at a parts store. If you dont know how to do it have a friend help you.

how much should it cost to get brake pads on a 96 buick skylark 4cyl my brakes are making noise?

who should i take it to .. pep boys meineke good year... which one is cheaper

midas used to advertise $99 per axel, that was a while ago, last year or something. it would probably be 120-150 per axel. i got 4 new rotors and all new pads on my 2000 toyota celica for almost exactly $400, i thought i got ripped off but i got estimates later and they were all pretty close....

it will cost bout 75 bucks for the pads and installation depends on who is puting them on

Does a 1990 Buick Skylark have rear brake pads?

If so, where can I buy replacements? I replaced the front pads and rotors 5 months ago, and now the back ones are screeching when I drive, as the front ones did before I changed them.

I went on the Auto Zone site to try to order a new set of rear pads, but I can't seem to see any rear ones there or anywhere else.

What else could be causing the screeching?
