Flinging for fun

Nate Long remembers the first time he experienced disc golf.

He loved the feeling of flinging the disc and watching it fly. He loved the challenge of navigating his shots around trees and bushes.

His first outing was three years ago. Now the 22-year-old Long plays as often as five times a week when the weather is right.

"It definitely hooks you," said Long, an Omaha college student.

Disc golf, which some people used to call Frisbee golf, is growing in popularity locally and nationally.

The City of Omaha opened a new disc golf course last year at Hummel Park and plans to turn part of the recently closed Fontenelle Golf Course into a disc course that could open later this year.

Bellevue opened its first disc golf course last year at Aspen Park. New courses also have opened in the past five years in other communities such as Fremont and Atlantic, Iowa.

Disc golf has been around more than 40 years nationally. Players throw a plastic disc that's 8 inches in diameter, about the size of a small dinner plate.

Road Test: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 generates big horsepower, bigger thirst

Let’s start with the basics: At the heart of this transformation is the new 6.4-litre Hemi V8 with Fuel Saver Technology (insert snort of disbelief here) that pounds out a robust 470 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque — an improvement of 50 hp and 45 lb-ft of torque over the 6.1L Hemi V8 it replaces. Mate said Hemi to a five-speed manumatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and an on-demand four-wheel-drive system.

Then there’s the SRT-tuned adaptive damping suspension managed by a new Selec-Track system, which interacts with multiple systems (stability control, adaptive damping, transmission shift strategy, transfer case torque proportioning, electronic limited slip differential performance, throttle control and cylinder de-activation) to automatically “tune” the Grand Cherokee’s driving dynamics. Among the five dynamic modes that can be driver selected for specific conditions is Track, the most extreme high-performance suspension option, which switches off the traction control system and  “locks down body motion for the ultimate handling experience,” according to Chrysler. Assisting in the handling duties is a set of very wide, very grippy P295/45ZR20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde all-season run-flat tires.

Renault Sport 172 creaky brakes. New discs & Pads

Intermittent creak on part braking, not full braking. Started with a click, like a stone lodged in the tread of a tyre and got worse and worse.

where can i get cheap brake discs and pads for a bmw e46 325ci sport?

You should not put cheap brakes on your BMW. Anyway try Autozone for parts and then put them on yourself.

if you cant be bothered to get a dealership to do it properly then i suggest halfords for your discs and pads.

have you tryed ebay? its always a good starting point! GOOD LUCK!!!

look on e bay, i got some for my rover 620gsi really cheap, lots of the sellers have them

As I told bz girl23, don't try to economize on brakes, seems like if you can afford a BMW you could afford quality brake parts....

try - cheapbrakediscs.com

ya-dude,,,,325 mmmm u need to go swed/german parts ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that,s near hatton-x-----(heathrow)

eurocarparts or german swedish french, branches around the country, or go to bmw and get slapped a wallet full of cash for the same thing.

Try FAB at Cindeford near Gloucester.Ask for John in parts.
After 30 years running BMWs You should never use cheap parts.

Chunky is spot on. GSF (german swedish french) or Eurocarpart will offer OEM parts at trade prices.
search yahoo for contact info.

Happy motoring

what size pads & discs (front & rear) are on a jeep cherokee 2003 2.5crd sport

The 2.5CRD is only listed as produced up to 2001 - On this,
Front discs are 280 x 24mm, vented.
Rear discs are 280 x 24mm, vented.

For the 2.8CRD produce from 2001 on are bigger:
Front discs are 302 x 28mm, vented.
Rear discs are 290 x 13mm, solid.

This makes it easy to check your existing ones by diameter.

Don't know where or why you'd get the info on pad size, but all part numbers & prices available here (Jeep is listed under Chrysler (USA))
Just get the pads to match the correct discs.

How do i remove "pins" to rear disc brakes?

This is for a 2001 montero sport, there are 2 pins holding the pads on the caliper...how do i remove them and why dont they make it like the front, without the pins? PLEASE HELP!!

Some are pressed in and some are threaded in. Usually the latter. Sometimes they are frozen or rusted in place. use a torch and a dead blow hammer to knock 'em loose. You might bend or ruin them but they are relatively cheap at the local parts shop. When re-installing remember to lube them liberally to avoid the problem in future.

Needle nose pliers and a steady hand also remember the Assembly or you will have trouble getting it back together, take notes no joke.

1992 Honda Prelude Soft Brake?

I bought a good condition 1992 Honda Prelude 2.3 L auto 2 years ago. I'm very unsatisfy with the brake, because it is soft.

My expectation is that it should perform like brand new car, where a gentle press is sufficient.

Few of my mechanics suggest to rotate/polish the discs, check leaks, brake fluid issue, leak brake hose, bad brake pad. So in 2 years, I done the following, but no improvement

1) Top up brake fluid
2) Replaced all 4 brake pad with sport performance ceramic compound
3) Ensure brake hose no leakage
4) Ensure brake caliper and related parts function
5) Rotate/polish all 4 brake discs
6) Replaced front rotors with sport performance ventilated slot discs

None of these make the brake respond any better. I still have to push the brake hard to react like new car, which only need to press gently.

Front sport slot disc does make front wheel to lock better during hard brake.

Mechanics are thinking I'm asking too much, but I believe they miss something
Rotate the rotor = Turn the rotor

Flushed the brake fluid 2 years ago, when I got the car.

Will try to breed the brake in next few days to share the result
Just bleed the brakes, and replaced the DOT4 fluid. Brake is 50% better, but not as strong as new brake. Any more suggestion?

Have you looked at bleeding the brakes? Your fluid may also be contaminated. I would look at having the fluid in the brake system completely flushed and clean new fluid added. as well as all 4 wheels bleed completely. If this still does not resolve the issue, it's possible you may have a bad power brake booster or poor vacuum to the booster. A properly equipped brake shop should have equipment to test the pressure produced from your brake system. from there they should be able to properly trouble shoot and diagnose the issue. If the shop your going too can not do this or is equipped to do it, take it some where else. most dealers are equipped to do this. Your not asking too much, a certain feel used to be there and if it is not longer there then you do have a problem.

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport?

I was changing brake pads on the rear of my 2002 Grand Caravan Sport. I noticed a smaller disc brake set up under the calipers. Is this for the emergency brake? If it is, is it "only" for the emergency brake?
Wasn't sure if I should mess with it and it did not look as if the shoes were worn anyway. Thanks

Yes, that is just your emergency/or parking brake. No need to mess with that.
