For Your Information: Pools and spas shouldn't be drained into street
Garbage in, garbage out. Nowhere is this theory better illustrated than in Canyon Lake. Whatever goes in the community’s storm drains eventually ends up in the Lake, which is a reservoir and an important recreational resource. That is why the City and local water company remind residents not to drain their pool into the street.
Storm drains flow directly into the Lake, and pool and spa water can contain copper, chlorine, sediment and other contaminants that can harm the water quality of the Lake, officials warn.
“It’s important that Canyon Lake residents keep pool, spa and fountain water out of the Lake,” says Nancy Horton, chair of the Water Committee. “Never drain into a street, gutter or storm drain.”
The pool can be drained into the home’s sewer clean-out, which can be found in the ground between the house and the street, or behind the house. The water should be drained slowly to prevent the pool water from overflowing.
