Angie's List - Energy Efficiency: Maintain your Air Conditioner
21.05.12
Air conditioning units frequently break down when the weather is the hottest, requiring expensive repairs and costly emergency calls.
Highly rated service specialists tell Angie’s List the majority of their emergency repair calls can be traced back to poor maintenance. Each year your air conditioner goes without maintenance, it will lose about 5 percent of its overall efficiency.
Finding potential problems before they arise will keep you from having an unexpected failure in the middle of a heat wave, will save you emergency repair bills and will help avoid costly repairs down the road.
Signs that your A/C is due for service:
· Is your AC unit not cooling your house as effectively as it should?
· Has the humidity in your home increased?
· However, not all problems are immediately recognizable, reinforcing the importance of having an annual inspection.

Lawnmower maintenance and maladies
21.05.12
You may have already heard your neighbor fire up the lawnmower for the first time this spring. If that doesn’t make you feel a little guilty, it should at least remind you to prepare your own machine for the first cutting. Before you pull the cord or turn the key, be sure to address the basics to keep your mower running properly.
There are two very important things to remember whenever you work on a lawnmower: wait until the engine is cool, and always disconnect the spark plug cable and tuck it out of the way. Make a habit of these two fundamentals, and you will avoid dangerous mishaps.
The simplest area to check and maintain is the air filter. It usually has a single retaining screw through its cover, which conceals a paper or foam filter element. This filter keeps dirt, dust and grass and other matter from being drawn into the chamber where air mixes with fuel. It needs to be kept in good condition.
Clean out a pleated paper filter with a soft bristle brush and/or by tapping it against a solid surface. If it doesn’t easily come clean, replace it. Wash foam filters with a little dish detergent and water, then thoroughly rinse and dry them. These filters also need to be saturated with a little engine oil before being replaced. Make a habit of removing and cleaning the filter after each mowing session. That way you will know whether it needs to be replaced before the next use. Filters should be replaced after 25 hours of use - at least once each season.

Replacement air filters for '74 Honda cb360?
Sep 03, 2009 by mcfly1204 | Posted in Motorcycles
What is the standard practice for replacement air filters on a '74 Honda cb360? I have read that initially Honda expected owners to replace the entire assembly. Currently, there is just a thin layer of, well honestly, what looks like athletic tape pre wrap held on by a thin gage wire. Any help would be appreciated.
The air filters are probably damaged and a previous owner could not locate replacements.
Wrapping the filters with porous gauze would be an adequate repair.
Try removing the tape and check the condition of the air filters.
If the air filters have holes in them, wrap the filters with material like a surgical mask
What ever you use, it must be strong enough that it won't deteriorate or shred to keep foreign material out of the engine and it must be "breathable" - hold it up to your mouth and blow through it.

Go to - your bike - Air Cleaner
That will show you the entire air cleaner as one part.

Are K&N stock replacement air filters any good?
Jun 24, 2007 by Citizen DeCat | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
If you've used one, do they make much difference regarding engine sound (I know they only add 1 to 4 hp)?
I want a bit more meaty engine note, without a drainpipe exhaust. NA engine.
The replacement filter won't make a sound difference alone but a induction kit will make a 'sucking' noise when you rev the engine. Get a nice performance exhaust that isnt loud but has a deeper sound for better effect. Powerflow would be good for this as you can specify the sound you want.

I Have Not Tired One My Sealf But From What I Hear Thay Are Worth Ever Penny.. PPL Love Them!
frozenfire75i | Jun 24, 2007
Mine did not improve mileage or change the sound. They are over-priced in my opinion.
Most people say they like them because they spent so much money on them. You can't sell one used. You can't get you're money back. Plus they cost too much to throw away. So.....
gejandsons | Jun 24, 2007
YES, they are good, they increase HP--up to 15HP, the engine sound won't change much. They are more expensive, but within a year, you will make-up that cost.

Yes they are one of the best filters on the market. I have done some looking and checking myself for this same reason and about the only things that I can find is to use a resonator. I used one on an Audi Coupe GT and man did that make a huge difference. It went from sounding like a little zipper car to a big beefy rod.

they dont change the exhaust note . but they are louder than the plain filter either way if you consider the costs of all those paper elements over the life of the car . the k&n filter is well worth its price

Not good enough for the money
cheeky | Jun 24, 2007
yes it does...i have been using K&N air filter for quite some time now...it can really give you a better acceleration...good luck
bj e | Jun 24, 2007
The performance increase is totally dependent on the vehicle you are adding it to.
The only change in sound will be at the airbox.
Check out the links.

.Love mine. pays for itself real quick. also removed the (noise eliminator) from the air box. What i mean i cut the opening out bigger. Noticed it rev up quicker and smoother.does no differance in exhaust sound but when i get on it ,it sounds like a good old 70`s four barrel . owner 93ta

Had mine for 12 years. (Chevy 350)
Stll works great.
Easy to wash.
NEVER have to keep replacing paper disposable filters.

A stock replacement K&N will not really make a difference in noise (or power for that matter) The 1-4HP claim is a stretch and difficult to notice in a street driven car by average Joe's.
An open element type filter or "cold air induction" - with the tube and the cone filter on the end - will definately make more noise. Sometimes you can modify the stock inlet to allow the use of a cone filter, if the inlet size of the filter is the same or close to that of your stock system.
I was able to do this on my Acura and it made a difference in both sound and performance. If you don't have the tools, experience or know-how to build something yourself though, there are a lot of bolt-on systems for virtually any car that are easy to install.
Good luck!

K&N’s replacement air filters for infinity G 35?
Oct 31, 2008 by Sam | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
do u guys think it is ok to put on my new car that i got like 3 days ago and will it help me to make my car faster?
how does it give hp to my ride?
yeah the horse power gain isnt that much, but the car will thank you later. Especially if you up grade your intake manifold and camshaft. A better breathing car is a happier car. Good luck.

yea like four hp not much but hey it all adds up

Do K&N replacement air filters do anything?
Dec 10, 2008 by thatoneguy | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
their web site says it increases HP and acceleration but im not really believing that
I agree with you that "I'm not really believing that." What gives you increased HP is a larger cam, more compression and etc. Its a good sales gimmick. I buy stuff from wall mart because its cheaper than its nearest competitor, but you know what it says on the wall mart label, that it filters two times better than its nearest competitor. I agree with you.

what is a premium air replacement filter for a jeep liberty?
Mar 03, 2009 by temeculawebbuilder | Posted in Jeep
not the K&n or intake
just a premium replacement
The question is kind of like: "Who is better, ford, chevy or dodge?"
Everybody will have an answer but really who is right? I know chevy but any way.
What are your real choices? Fram, AC Delco? Maybe Fram Tough Guard.
The most benefit will be derived by replacing What ever filter your choose frequently or with a higher frequency.
Your comment "not the K&n or intake" seems confusing to me. Im not sure if you are talking about the tube style replacements, or drop in replacements. I am assuming you want only drop in replacements. But K&N makes drop in replacements too. So, I'm still not sure if i know what you are asking. Comment it up and I'll answer it out.
