Will a K&N air filter sound better than a Spectre air filter from pepboys?

I put a Sprectre air filter on my 97 grand am, it sounds good but i wanted to know if a K&N will make it sound better and get me better performance
it wont sound to different but k&n filters are know to give you the performance jab. go with the k&n.

I didn't know you could hear an air filter over the engine and exhaust noise. All it does is filter air coming through it. You must have a very keen sense of hearing.

May I suggest the Moroso cold air intake kit? I have it on my car. It cost about 50 bucks more than the k&n kit. The filter alone will not make it sound different. If you want sound, get some flowmasters...lol.. I love my car.

I'd probably go with the K&N - although you probably won't notice a whole lot of difference in sound - they are the absolute best for actual performance.
All of their products are top notch - I occasionally use other peoples stuff, and am usually not nearly as impressed.
I think what really sold me on them was the first one of their oil filters for my motorcycle (Suzuki Boulevard C50) that I bought - they weld a 17mm nut to the end of it!!
Easy on, easy off - and it's the only oil filter I will ever buy for that bike again.

Will a Spectre air filter fit on a K&N system?

I have the full K&N kit and need a new filter and was wondering if the Spectre filter is ok to put on it because they are so much cheaper
Fist off, if you have a K&N, you shouldn't need a "new" filter, just clean and reuse. BUT if you must, then the only way to tell is to measure the outer diameter of the pipe and compare it to the inner diameter of the filter opening.

About how much more mpg are you getting?
Air filters will only improve your mileage by AT BEST 10% or so.
5% is more likely.
So, if you normally get 20mpg, you're now looking at 21mpg.
Sounds nice. Except, that it doesn't actually do that much. Another way to look at it, is that 100 miles now takes you 4.76 gallons, instead of 5. At current gas prices....you saved yourself $1 dollar, over 100 miles.
Since their air filters cost around $40 depending on which one you're buying....you'd need to travel 4,000 miles, to have it pay for itself. At which point, it'd be a good idea to get another one, anyway.
My suggestion? Get a stock air filter. More than often, switching from a dirty air filter to a clean one, gives the same performance increase as any aftermarket filter.

Problem with installing Spectre cone Air filter?
Feb 09, 2009 by skuback12 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Earlier today my cousin and i installed a spectre cone filter on my 1998 honda accord ex. We simply cut the hose connected to the filter box and took the box out. We made sure not to pull out any wires or anything. Once the box was out we securely clamped the new cone on. Problem being...once my car is started it is constantly reving. it is as 3000 rpm. Were thinking it could be something with the censor, but we unplugged the censor started and then plugged it back in, in attempt to reset it. Can anyone help me out?
Due to cone not being on properly? or a hole in my hose?
It was not that model but I caome across a similar issue in a GM barina, where if the vehicle ignition was cycled with sensors unplugged it went into a "limp home mode" and revved its butt off. Needed codes cleared on GMs Tech 2 Machine. Maybe a trip to Honda?
