When 2002 began many Downtowners were still reeling from the 9/11 attacks and were in desperate need of a year defined by progress. It quickly became clear that the progress would be slow going.
But signs of hope came in the form of hotels opening in Battery Park City, the announcement that the federal government had earmarked billions of dollars to help rebuild the neighborhood, and the re-opening of two Lower Manhattan schools that had been evacuated and temporarily relocated.
Debris from Ground Zero was finally disappearing by way of barges launched from Pier 25, and actor Robert De Niro helped bring to life the Tribeca Film Festival, an event that has returned every year since and gives the local economy a boost. Community Board 1 became the most important community board in the city as its members tirelessly advocated for money for schools, cultural groups and small businesses. U.S. Representatives Jerrold Nadler and Carolyn Maloney challenged FEMA to ensure that Lower Manhattan residents received the aid they deserved. And the World Trade Center site’s rebirth began as seven different architectural teams offered up nine different visions of how the devastated site should be designed.

What can i check on a f-250 ?
Nov 22, 2008 by DYLAN S | Posted in Ford
When i press the accelerator it bogs down and eventually comes up to speed, it will not idle, had a very dirty fuel filter and fuel pump was burned up. I replaced the fuel pump and both filters, also the air filter. I have an after market 5" exhaust system no cat or muffler and a Bully Dog programmer which i set back to stock. It still has no power and wont idle.
dirty filter and burned out pump, i'd say a clogged injector, or rail, have it flushed out it might help.

check for air leaks to the intake manifold only say that coz you say the revs do get up in the end if not try the ignition timing if not stick(fixed position)check vacuum on the advance and retard unit for the ignition.Hope this is helpful

01 2500 cummins,it cuts back around 2100 rpm when got on it. dont do it every time. does anyone know anything?
Oct 08, 2009 by ts01cummins | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
i have the banks big hoss, banks high ram inlet, banks exhaust , k&n intake with filter, air dog lift pump , egt guage, boast guage, and fuel pressure guage
First! Take the KN filter off, your sucking the filter oil off into your turbo.
Second, what is your egt and fuel pressure at when it "does it".
Third, How many miles does your Vp44 have on it?
Fourth, Check your codes.
Is the turbo and injectors stock?
Are you blowing more smoke then normal when its losing power?
Your hoss maybe screwed, it happens to all of them alot.

it sounds like fuel starvation. As the engine starts to want a bigger surge of gas it gets strangled.
if the thing starts and can get to 2100rpm it's unlikely to be an ignition fault.
check the fuel filters aren't clogged. replace them with new filters anyway
check all the obvious things like pipes and tubes for deterioration.
oh and check the air filter assembly. If you have a cruddy filter it will go ok until the engine wants more air. Put in a new air filter. One time I found a dead bird stuffed up the air inlet ( as the body decomposes all the feathers fluff up like a feather duster )

debating the purchase of a cold air intake for my 6.4l diesel?
Sep 07, 2009 by Abel | Posted in Ford
Everyone. My 2008 ford f-250 diesel gets horrible gas milage and i want to put an intake i just cant decide with a bully dog or a banks intake. i want more fuel economy than power but must still be better than stock air filter and doesnt choke the motor out. Help
I hate to say it but I havent seen anything even cold kits that improve the fuel milage on a 6.4 other than some hand held programmers that help maybe 1 to 2 at the most. You have to easy around and not get on it with that. I notice that over 45 to 60 is the best speed for the best milage on the 6.4

What tests should I do on my engine?
Nov 18, 2010 by Matt | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
1995 Chevrolet 1500 with 5.7 engine and 119,000 miles.
My engine can't keep a steady speed without surging and losing power. I've replaced all ignition components except for the distributor and coils, i.e. wires, plugs, cap, and rotor. I've changed the MAP sensor, TPS sensor, IAC sensor, fuel filter, air filter, and had oil changed. When I put the pedal to the floor it won't take off like it should but after a few seconds it will go full throttle and run like a scolded dog. When I come to a stop it will almost die or it will die. When I let off the accelerator the RPMS will jump up about 250 RPM. I know it's got to be something simple but I don't know what and I'm on a VERY limited income so I can't replace everything that it 'might' be.
Also, what could be causing me to get a code 33 (high voltage to MAP sensor)? I changed it and after about a week it came back. I changed the MAP sensor AGAIN and it did the same thing. Any ideas would be helpful, thank you. Again, what tests can I do?
Anything that interferes with the MAP sensor's ability to monitor the pressure differential may upset the fuel mixture and ignition timing. This includes a problem with the MAP sensor itself, grounds or opens in the sensor wiring circuit, and/or vacuum leaks in the intake manifold (airflow sensor systems) or hose that connects the sensor to the engine.
Typical driveability symptoms that may be MAP related include:
* Surging.
* Rough idle.
* A rich fuel condition, which may cause spark plug fouling.
* Detonation due to too much spark advance and a lean fuel ratio.
* Loss of power and/or fuel economy due to retarded timing and an excessively rich fuel ratio.
A vacuum leak will reduce intake vacuum and cause the MAP sensor to indicate a higher than normal load on the engine. The computer will try to compensate by richening the fuel mixture and retarding timing -- which hurts fuel economy, performance and emissions.
First, make sure engine manifold vacuum is within specifications at idle. If vacuum is unusually low due to a vacuum leak, retarded ignition timing, an exhaust restriction (clogged converter), or an EGR leak (EGR valve not closing at idle).
A low intake vacuum reading or excessive backpressure in the exhaust system can trick the MAP sensor into indicating there is a load on the engine. This may result in a rich fuel condition.
A restriction in the air intake (such as a plugged air filter), on the other hand, may produce higher than normal vacuum readings. This would result in a load low indication from the MAP sensor and possibly a lean fuel condition.
A good MAP sensor should read barometric air pressure when the key is turned on before the engine starts. This value can be read on a scan tool and should be compared to the actual barometric pressure reading to see if they match. Your local weather channel or website should be able to tell you the current barometric pressure reading.
Check the sensor's vacuum hose for kinks or leaks. Then use a hand-held vacuum pump to check the sensor itself for leaks. The sensor should hold vacuum. Any leakage calls for replacement.
An outright failure of the MAP sensor, loss of the sensor signal due to a wiring problem, or a sensor signal that is outside the normal voltage or frequency range will usually set a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and turn on the Check Engine light.

Can a performance chip make a 95 BMW 325i much peppier than a 97 BMW 328i Convertible?
Nov 20, 2008 by Yolky E | Posted in BMW
My son has the 95 BMW 325i and I have driven it for months while he was in Iraq. I have the 97 BMW 328i convertible and my car is not nearly as peppy. He bought a chip for his car so it would perform better only to find it already had one in it. The new chip made little or no difference.
His car does have a performance air filter and air scoop, but that's about all as far as the engine is concerned. When I drive my stock convertible it is sluggish compared to his car. It is a noticeable difference. We both have about the same number of miles (about 125,000 mi) and had similar tires. I didn't really think a performance chip could make such a difference on old cars, but it's a noticeable difference in the two cars. Both cars are automatic and neither one is dogged around.
I am aware my convertible is probably a couple of hundred pounds heavier, but would that make such a difference in performance? Both cars are running well and neither needs a tuneup or any other maintenance.
Is it really the chip making his car feel quite a bit peppier or is it the extra weight of my car making it feel sluggish compared to his? If I had never driven his car I would still feel my car is somewhat sluggish. However, I am used to high performance cars as I have had three Corvettes and a Porsche so maybe I expect too much. The last time I had a fast convertible I had a fuel-injected 63 Corvette Sting Ray, which was far peppier than the Vette I have now (1989) or the BMWs.
To be honest, it could be any number of things. It really depends on the upkeep of your car versus his. And yes, the added weight of the convertible is absolutely slowing you down. But there's not much you can do about that. You could try "chipping" your car, but it'll always be several hundred pounds heavier. Go to www.bavauto.com - they have quite a few performance upgrades for E36's, that's a good place to start. Personally, I'd recommend a turbo kit if you really want to blow your son's doors off. But that's not exactly cheap.
