Peterbilt Model 386 First Smartway-Designated Alternative Fuel Vehicle
19.09.11
The Model 386 LNG will join Peterbilt's family of SmartWay designated vehicles which includes the Model 587, Model 386 and Model 384.
Equipped with a fuel-efficient, aerodynamic package, the Model 386 LNG SmartWay designated vehicle is ideally suited for a variety of applications, including line, bulk and tanker hauling.
The alternative fueled vehicle is powered by the EPA-certified Westport GX engine, offering up to 475 horsepower and 1,750 pounds-feet of torque. The 15-liter engine uses high pressure direct injection technology (HPDI), specialized cryogenic fuel tanks, and associated electronic components to facilitate robust performance and reliable operation. This technology uses a low cost, cleaner-burning fuel than diesel without compromising engine torque, power, fuel economy, or drivability, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25%.

Are there any legitamate alternative fuel systems or add-ons for gasoline buring vehicles to increase mileage?
May 16, 2008 by OUS | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
Most of the vehicles produced after 1996, and even more so after 2001, are running as efficiently as possible, thanks to the computer systems controlling the engines and transmissions.
I have seen some cases (mainly in trucks and larger vehicles) where installing a "SuperChip" or reprogrammer has not only improved power, but have shown some moderate mileage increases.
Keeping your vehicle maintained is the best thing you can do. Proper tire inflation, Tune-ups, driving habits, etc. can help you stretch your gas dollars.

Most alternative fuel things dont get better gas theyre just better for the environment. Unless you want to use fuel cell or hydrogen or something like that but you have to change the engine.
sk8ergangsta2003 | May 16, 2008
No. Most of the things you see promoted are scams or frauds. At best, they do nothing.
Ethanol is also a fraud; (1) it just shifts the expense from the gas pump to the supermarket; (2) results in lower gas mileage, requiring more gas to run the car; subsidies to ethanol produces is a tax burden on taxpayers. Net result is higher consumer costs.

anyone out there have experience with Deisel Energy Secrets?
Jun 10, 2008 by Jim L | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
This is a company on the internet that markets an alternative fuel system for deisel engines for using veatable oil. I am interested in feedback from those who have used this system.
1. It's not a secret. Anything that can be done with car engines, is wildly known.
2. If it was truly beneficial, they would make it wide known, rather than selling the info.
3. Stuff like this has been around for ages, and it's always a scam.

What kind of alternative fuels are out there?
Apr 17, 2006 by ethanyoung1 | Posted in Commuting
Im sick of seeing reports of exxon and other big wigs get wind fall profits while i pay at the pump. However I believe in the free market system,... so were can I go to get a fuel that will put a strain on the big companies that are charging too much?
all of the above.. but not only...
right now more then 70% of brazils cars run on gasoline made from sugercanes. the gasoline is not only much cheaper to be made, cheaper to buy, but also way more environmental friendly. 2 major companies that produce cars that run on this fuel suprisingly are FORD and GENERAL MOTORS, who would of thought?
the united states are running research on making gasoline from corn, but who knows how that will work out, for the best lets hope
you can always buy solar powered cars or atleast partially solar powered which will atleast save some money and make you less oil dependant.

u can get electric cars ,u can make bio diesel an there are hydro electric cars

and hyrogen fuel cell cars
Rusty A | Apr 17, 2006
solar, hydrogen fuel cell, natural gas powered, some engines run on waste cooking oil, hybrids, diesel, these are all I know but I can suspect that we can use other items as well.

There is a gas called ethanol made of (ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, EtOH)

They actually have cars running on vegetable oil now! Check it out: http://www.godsdirectcontact.org/eng/new s/161/ga1.htm

Except for cars we use a lot of fuel to warm up our homes in the winter time. After a trip to Austria i discovered masonry wood stoves .They use sustainable fuel, they are the cleanest burning and economical way to heat your house.Check them out!

There are many new kinds of fuel which hav been mentioned by other's but some scintists are working on a new fuel based on antimatter which one day may produce far greater energy

I need help deciding which college auto mechanics/auto body classes to take?
Apr 09, 2011 by IndieUndies | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I'll be going to college soon to major in film and music. I have decided to have a "Plan B" just in case I cannot find a job in that field right after I finish. I was thinking that auto mechanics/auto body stuff would work. I mean...people always need mechanics right? And I figure I could learn how to do it, though I know nothing about it.
These are the classes and I have no clue what most of them mean. If you could tell me that would be great;
1.AUTO BODY REPAIR (ABODY)
ABODY 211 – Basic Auto Body Repair
ABODY 212 – Minor Collision Repair
ABODY 213 – Major Collision Repair
ABODY 240 – Automotive Refinishing 1
2.AUTOMOTOTIVE TECHNOLOGY (AMECH)
AMECH 801 – Quick Service Tech-Lube Service
AMECH 802 – Quick Service – Tire Service
AMECH 803 – Quick Service Tech – Brake Inspect
AMECH 440 – Automotive Computer Systems
AMECH 434 – Engine Repair
AMECH 421 – Auto Mechanics 1
AMECH 432 – Automotive Brake Systems
AMECH 231 – Engine Repair & Automatic Transmission
AMECH 50A – Machine Tool Operate & Practice
AMECH 232 – Brakes & Steering Systems
AMECH 233 – Auto Electrical & Fuel Systems
AMECH 236 – Automotive Emission & Comp Contr
AMECH 491 – Heavy Duty Alternative Fuels
AMECH 492 – HD Alt Fuel Diagnosis & Repair
AMECH 493 – Alt Fuels Conversion, Diagnosis
Its not possible for me to take all these classes so which ones should I take? Which would actually help me in getting a job? And how much and what kinds of math do I have to know? I'm horrible at math.
This might be a bad Plan B, I really don't know.
It is a bad plan "B"... if you do not have a car at home sitting in the garage in
some state of disrepair and love to tinker with cars and body work, I would
suggest another course of action... however should you decide to pursue
plan "b" then you should start with the beginner basics courses which will give
you the opportunity to decide if you really want to pursue a career with dirty
fingernails...
