So, Does Energy Efficiency Really Do Any Good? What's Up With That?
19.09.11
The argument is that energy efficiency measures can result in a “rebound effect” — that any savings experienced through increased efficiency get eaten up by increased consumption. In fact, according to one hypothesis, energy consumption on an individual level and in the economy as a whole can actually increase. Kind of a game of Energy-Whack-a-Mole.
So what’s up with that? Does energy efficiency really matter?
Public Energy Policy: “Efficiency First”
The United Nations Foundation believes that “reducing the amount of energy the world wastes is the first and best step toward fighting global warming” and that reducing such waste “provides financial resources to sustainably grow strong economies around the world.” The organization urges climate negotiators to push for an “Efficiency First” policy, “deploying energy efficiency immediately at large scale.” Specifically, the foundation thinks global climate deals should include a commitment to “collectively doubling the annual rate of energy efficiency improvement (to about 2.5%) by 2015.”
Washington, DC (NAPSI) - Recently, the White House announced an increase in fuel economy standards that would require passenger vehicles and light trucks to average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
While this will go a long way to stretch fuel and our natural energy resources in the future, there are actions you can take today to help increase fuel efficiency.
John and Helen Taylor, known as the world’s most fuel-efficient couple and holding 88 world records, know about stretching the boundaries of fuel efficiency. To demonstrate how you can reduce your fuel consumption and lower the price you pay at the pump, Shell and the Taylors are teaming up to introduce the Smarter Driving program by driving across 48 states, using the least amount of fuel in an unmodified, non-hybrid vehicle.
As official spokespeople for Shell, the Taylors agree that by following the Shell M.A.P. to Smarter Driving, you can become more fuel-efficient and save money with this simple plan:

Which pick-up truck gets the best fuel economy?

I'm having a bit of dilemma here. With gas prices skyrocketing I prefer an economy car however I find pick-up trucks the most useful and beneficial (aside from their dismal fuel economy).
full size trucks avg 13 to 15 mpg.
you might get 19 on the Hwy and 12 in the city.
Nissan Pathfinder or a Toyota 4Runner with a V6 avg's 17 mpg
a Toyota or Lexus hybrid SUV cost $43 to $50,000 avg about 24 mpg
