How to maximize fuel economy of your car to beat the petrol price hike!
19.09.11
Like everything around us being linked to the free market and its diktats, increasing petrol prices too are a price we have to pay for the economic development that is happening around us due to a rapidly liberalizing economy. In this light, crying hoarse about every petrol price hike only to resignedly accept the change in prices soon after has become a regular affair.
A leading economist even remarked that the path of liberalization India and her citizens have chosen means that global price alignment of fuel need to be obeyed as a small price to pay for all the economic prosperity that allows you and me to buy a car or a motorcycle in the first place. While it is true that a large component making up petrol prices in India consist of various levies that the central and state government imposes, protesting against the hike does have its own merit.
But, since protestations and governmental policies are best left to our parliamentarians and activists like Anna Hazare, let’s focus on how you can reduce your petrol bill and beat the petrol price hike by adopting some simple measures. If you own a two wheeler, you must first read this post that we published a while ago to extract the best mileage. For cars though, we’ll give you a comprehensive low down on how to beat the latest hike in petrol prices. Many of these tips hold good for two wheelers as well.
Toyota has recently unveiled its highly successful car, the Prius at the annual green drive expo, California. The car by Toyota is basically a plug-in hybrid vehicle and promises a good mileage-87 MPGe during combined driving and 49 MPG while driving absolutely on fuel. Unlike others, the automobile provides a smooth driving when working as an EV. The car is designed to have five seats. The car gives its best EV operation for 15 miles when driving at 62 mph.
Toyota’s Plug-in Prius has given an utmost attention to its battery system and its fuel system. The automobile boasts of a 176 lb Li-ion battery pack. However even after so much weight to be transported by the car, it still remains weightless due to weight saving techniques employed in other parts of the automobile. 2012 Prius is provides an option to its customers between fuel and electricity, even after this, it relies mainly on its electrical system for power. Thus it gives you a best optimization of mileage. In doing all this and achieving a superior performance, the weight of this car is kept to be 3165 lbs. Minimum emission of CO2 is the factor which the auto giant has definitely taken care of.

What would you like to ask?HAve a 2008 Subaru outbck wagon what gear gives me the best fuel milage?
Jul 19, 2009 by Love Life | Posted in Subaru
and what is the sport gear for?
It's an automatic.
watever gear will give you the lowest RPM's for the speed you are traveling. (you know, the gauge next to the speedometer....its shows engine speed in thousands....1, 2, 3, 4, ......) just dont make the engine struggle by keeping the RPM's too low for sufficient power while driving..... sport shift allows you to manually select and shift into a gear whenever you want.... for example, when accelerating and the car needs to go into 2nd gear, you push the shift lever forwards in the "sport" slot and it will upshift....there is also a light on the dashboard that will show you what gear you are in while in sport mode.... whenever you dont want to use sport, you just push the shifter sideways, back into the regular drive mode... also, depending on what model of the outback u have, there is either: a display above the radio, next to the clock that you can cycle between tempurature, average fuel mpg for the tank, current fuel economy as you're driving, miles untill empty, and how long you have been driving..... or you have a gauge on the dashboard that will show you the fuel economy if you dont have the display over the radio, next to the clock....

overdrive or the top gear at a lower speed will result in the best mileage. Fewer revs at go the same speed as a lower gear. I have a 2008 wrx that gets 28.2 mpg right now and it got 30.3 (combined and mostly around town) before I started to play around with modifying it.

Just don't be too heavy on the gas. Keep a good following distance so you don't have to keep slowing down and accelerating as much. Keep tires inflated to the recommended pressure.

How can I get the best fuel milage from my 2006 Dodge Ram?

Hemi with the MDS or Cummins Turbo Diesel?
Hemi with MDS - ensure you are using the correct oil weight 5w20 as anything thicker will disable the MDS. Also, switch out your oils and fluids to synthetic will help increase fuel economy. You can add on a CAI, free flow muffler & Litter box (Cat) or exhaust system. Also, you can add a program chip to help with fuel mileage or power.
Add a Tonneau cover to your truck bed as this will decrease drag on the highways! Run smaller tires as larger and wider the tire the more drag they create.
CTD - Add a CAI, add a free flow muffler & Litter box (Cat) and get yourself a programmer like Banks, Bully Dog, Predator and the one I recommend The Edge Juice with attitude. Add all this to my 04 CTD and I have been getting 16.5MPG City and 21.0 to 22.5MPG highway depending on load with 3:73 rear and running 35x12.5R18 Toyo M/T's

Accelerate slowly, don't speed, use the highest gear practical at a given speed, and don't idle. It's not much fun.

I have the same truck and have been told that a better exhust system will improve it. Have yet to try it.

Good maintanence, good tires, keep the cargo bed empty. Extra weight adds to fuel consumption. Consolodate short errands. Keep your fuel tank at least 1/2 full. The fuel pump uses the fuel to help cool the pump.

knock it into last gear and put on cruise control if you have it. even slight increases / decreases in speed affect your consumption. you could also try that stuff you mix with your fuel and it cleans the cylinders out.

One more...what axle ratio do you have?? Numerically high will KILL mileage. If you tow, consider one of the overdrive units, but...put a pencil to the paper..how long for a payback on all these modifications? Over size tires, will change the effective gear ratios and help at lower speeds, but stability and air resistance suffer at higher speeds. Low restriction exhaust and intake really do little at economy speeds. They are more aimed at increasing power at max engine speeds and performance. Be careful.

Drive at 55 MPH

Putting a really good air filter in can help also!

Slowly accelerate no prolonged warmups or idling and you'll have to refuse to tow chevy's and fords home.
amy az | May 05, 2007
Spend about $50 and put a K&N air filter in it. It will save you atleast 2 mpgs.

which diesel crew cab pickup will give me the best fuel milage.?
Mar 05, 2007 by honkytonk | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
I like the chevy truck best, but would i get better milage with a ford or dodge. I am looking at buying a 4x4 crew cab with a short bed 3/4 ton. I just was wondering what milage people had been getting because i don't know if the stickers on the windows are all that accurate.
My dad has an '04 Dodge Cummins diesel Crew cab 4x4 3/4 ton. He can set the cruise at 70 on the interstate and get 23MPG. Not bad for such a large truck. 300HP and 600 lb/ft of torgue.
