Honda recalls CR-V, Pilot for low-beam headlight failures
Honda Motor Co. is recalling 554,000 CR-V and Pilot SUVs after federal safety officials raised questions about an investigation into low-beam headlights failing.
The Japanese automaker says it is fixing a problem with the headlight wiring in the 2002-2004 CR-Vs and 2003 Pilots.
This is the third recall Honda has issued since 2004 to address failing low-beam headlights. In total, Honda has recalled more than 1 million vehicles to address the problem — and the government is investigating whether hundreds of thousands of other Hondas have similar problems.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration first began investigating the issue in CR-Vs in April 2011. It has reviewed more than 170 complaints.
NHTSA said last month in a new letter to Honda that it is also investigating low-beam light failures in the 2003-2008 Element, the MY 2003-2005 Pilot and the MY 2001-2003 Civic.
The government safety agency also is reviewing Honda's previous recalls of 143,000 2007-2008 Honda Fits in 2010 and the 2004 recall of the 440,000 2001-2002 Honda Civics to address low-beam headlight failures.
Centralia man arrested after fleeing police, hitting cars
Sgt. Stacey Denham said an officer was pulling over the driver of a Honda Civic near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Main Street shortly after 5 a.m. because one of the car’s headlights was out.
Denham said the 20-year-old Centralia driver drove away.
“The officer didn’t really get into position to give chase, but was trying to catch up,” Denham said. “The vehicle ended up crashing into two cars.”
The crash was at the intersection of Yew and Mellen streets, less than a mile from where the officer tried to pull the man over. Denham said a woman in one of the other vehicles reported an injury but refused medical treatment.
The Centralia man allegedly left the crash scene on foot. He was traced by a police dog.
Denham said the man was arrested after being treated and released from Providence Centralia Hospital. Denham said the man had a felony warrant for a Department of Corrections violation.
