Monster Jeep Burns Gas as It Takes on Porsche, BMW SUVs

Twelve miles per gallon. That’s all the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 4x4 gets around town. As a privileged, high-horsepower SUV, this special edition seems primed for a Hummer level of vilification.

Why is it that the stuff that’s most fun is also the worst for us? By any rational measure, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is about as necessary as a single-pronged fork. But it’s also a 5,150-pound hunk of hurtling, bombastic fun.

I don’t think I could look a polar bear in the eye after stepping out of the $54,470 Jeep ($61,785 as tested). I’d done our environment wrong, repeatedly lighting up tires from stop lights.

This juggernaut of American excess will break average highway speed limits in 4.8 seconds. And you can find yourself a quarter mile down the road in around 13 seconds from a standing start if you never let up on the go pedal.

My reward for these transgressions? An average mpg of 13.4. Geez, I really am a bad person, despite what my mom says.

Bergenfield: Police Blotter, April 19

Vehicle without inspection sticker leads to arrest

On Wednesday, April 4 at 8:35 a.m., Officer Eric Ost was on patrol driving north on Washington Avenue when he saw a gray Honda without an inspection sticker turn into a parking lot, according to reports.

Ost conducted a motor vehicle stop of the Honda in the N. Washington Avenue parking lot, police said. Upon approaching the driver, identified as Joseph M. Bolger, 54, of Englewood , Ost asked him to provide his license, insurance card and registration.

Ost checked Bolger’s driver’s license and learned he had an active Englewood warrant for $120 for failing to appear in court for a marked turning lane summons, police said.

Bolger was transported to the Englewood Police Department where he was turned over to officers there for the active warrant, according to reports.

Bergenfield police issued Bolger a motor vehicle summons for failure to inspect.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo headlights?

On my Jeep the headlights have this sort of "fogginess" to them. The lights work perfectly but I can't get this film off - does anyone know what this could be? I've tried GooGone and some other things and it seems like it starts to come off, but then when it dries, its foggy again. Could these be a bunch of tiny scratches? Both headlights have them, and its not moisture on the inside.
Thanks for any help you can give!!

My wifes 2000 WJ had the same problem. It's caused from "road grime", small particles of rocks, pebbles & sand that hit your headlight lens at high speed putting very small pits on em" My wife's lenses were so bad I had to use rubbing compound sold at auto stores near the polishes. I first applied it with a clean rag & a lot of "elbow grease". Takes forever! To speed things up I used a buffer. Use the buffer on slow speed! Or you'll get burn marks. Very expensive $$ to replace.

buy new ones. after time some covers get fade and turn foggy.
the best thing is to replace them. the are not glass they are plastic.

How do I change the headlight assemblies on my '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo's headlight assemblies are extremely clouded (they're simply too old). I'm planning on buying new ones and I need help (instructions -with graphics if possible) installing them.

How do I replace Headlights on 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

Just pull the assembly out, the entire thing comes out and the bulb then comes out of the back, there are no screws or anything, the lights themselves just pop out.

are the headlights of a 1999 jeep grand cherokee Limited compatible for a Laredo?

i need to buy new headlights for my 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo but i like the way the headlights for the Grand Cherokee Limited look like (more Crystal Clear looking). I'm pretty sure the headlights are compatible for the Laredo but i just want to make sure before i buy them on eBay. Thanx
not the headlight bulbs..i'm talkin about the headlights assembly

yes. they are the same assembly. the only difference is that the laredo has black surrounding the lights and the limited has chrome surrounding the lights which gives them that crystal clear look.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and the headlight lens are "etched". How can I clean that off ?

Not real sure without looking. IF, it Plastic try Buffing it with Toothpaste. Sounds crazy but, it a rubbing Compound and you already have it, I hope. ;-) Cheaper than Car Rubbing Compound or Wax considering the small area.
