Osram to Supplement R&D With Takeovers to Keep Pace With Demand
09.06.11
Osram, the lighting maker to be spun
out of Siemens AG (SIE) , plans to make acquisitions to supplement
research spending as a move toward LED marks the fastest change
in the industry for three decades, chief Wolfgang Dehen said.
“The lighting business will see dramatic changes like
we’ve not seen in the past 30 years,” said Dehen at a press
conference in Munich today. “If you look at what we did in the
past, that’s going to be a good indicator going forward.”
Osram, expected to list shares in Germany in the fall, is
prepared for being outside the Munich-based German engineering
giant, Dehen said. The company, which holds the No. 2 spot in
the $65 billion industry behind Royal Philips Electronics NV,
earlier this year agreed to buy Siteco Lighting, strengthening
its position in the market for fixtures.
Governments are discouraging the use of conventional light
bulbs , which convert only 5 percent to 10 percent of the energy
used into light and have shorter lifespans than LEDs. To help
reach its target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions 20 percent
by 2020 from 1990 levels, the European Union is phasing out
conventional clear incandescent bulbs of 100 watts or more.

What is the easiest and cheapest way to upgrade 66 mustang headlights?
May 28, 2009 by James | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I just bought a 66 mustang and the headlights are very weak. I would like to know if I should just buy new original headlights or something else.
You Mustang has 7" round sealed beam headlamps. If they are the original type headlamps, just upgrade to 7" round halogen headlamps, the distance you see down the highway will greatly increase. It will probably cost about $30 per light, maximum, and they are direct replacement, takes about 5 minutes per headlight. These lights aren't special order, they should even be available at Wamart, but shops like Autozone in the US and Canadian Tire in Canada still sell these as regular stock, or easy-to order items in the smaller stores.
You don't need any chemical cleaners, the headlamps are glass sealed beam, meaning they clean completely with windshield washer fluid, or water with a little car wash soap. There is nothing to restore on a glass sealbeam, unlike newer cars with plastic housings that oxidize.

try rainx head light restore. or bright bulbs it mad a huge impacted on my 89 mazda b2200 and 1992 toyota camry. try new bulbs too

God, james, that's an antique now, congratulations and good luck! you need to go through the lighting system..i'm sure all the lighting needs to be re-wired, for one. if you actually can buy new lights at the autoshop, please let me know..that would be cool.
new alternator...does it have one of those? not a generator and magneto? wow. you need to get new engine electrical everything. as for updating the exterior lighting, you are now looking at fabrication issues. have to find something similar, yet newer, without hurting the body.
my best suggestion would be to look for classic car forums, as well as classic car clubs in your area. maybe if you can pick through a local junk yard to find some light assemblies that fit the headlight orifices of the body that you can mount and aim without hurting the body too much?
lotsa luck. i half-envy you!

My '72 Vega had weak headlights in it also. They were the original Guides! Replaced them with Sylvania halogen's, and they work much better. About 15 bucks apiece at Autozone when I bought them. It's getting harder to find the round bulbs, but they had these in stock.

Wiring or relay issue on 98 mustang headlights?
Jan 17, 2009 by lvi56111000 | Posted in Ford
I got a pair of angel eye projector headlights for my 98 mustang. but only one of them works fully. The other one is very dim with both regular and high beams on. Bulbs are good and brand new. I think it might be the relay. How would I check for a bad relay? Where is the relay? fuses are good.
If it is a grounding issue how would I fix that? Does that mean the manufacturer wired it incorrectly?
bad ground is the problem
ken k | Jan 17, 2009
Ken is right on the money! that head light is not grounding thats why both elements are lighting together. the low beam is using the high beam wire to use for a temp ground! Good Call Ken!

Anyone having problem with mustang headlights getting moisture inside?
Sep 21, 2006 by kaykay724 | Posted in Ford
I have an 06 pony package mustang and I've already had the dealership replace my fog lights once since they were getting moisture inside. The other day I was washing my car and they started doing it again so I'm gonna have to take it back! Is this a common problem?
Whats the gas tank problem?
Yes, it is a common problem. Hopefully you will get a set that will not leak. It becomes a major problem here in Virginia when the warranty runs out and I have to reject the vehicle for safe operation on the highway because the lamps have water in them, yearly inspections are required here. It can get expensive. Have them replaced again. You will get a good set, eventually.
The only gas tank problems I can recall on your car are faulty fuel sending units. I have replaced a couple, but it is not a high volume problem, and not a major repair.

My 97 Exploder has plastic lenses that hold water, I drilled a 1/8 inch hole near the bottom to let the water out. Solved mine.

Is there any way to clean off the oxidation or condensation that seems to plague Ford Mustang headlights?
Jul 02, 2008 by Chase A | Posted in Ford
Can you clean it off or do you need to just buy new ones?
Pretty much all of these answers are good but my choice is a bottle of Meguiars Plastic X. You can buy it at any auto parts store for less than $10 a bottle. Three applications per light and 30 minutes later, you'll have clear lenses again. Hey, it worked for me. The discoloration is actually caused by the UV rays from the sun. As long as you park in the sun, the discoloration will come back. That's the nature of plastic. Plastic is porous so I apply a coat once every other month to prevent it from returning.

How to clean haze on 2002 Mustang Headlights?
Mar 29, 2009 by slyone36 | Posted in Ford
Lights are pretty bad, and probably will need a lot of elbow grease to restore, anyone had good luck with some type of product?
I had the same problem with my 99 mustang, I used a kit to fix it, it cost about 20 bucks and you end up basically wet sanding them and using a resin compound to fill in the micro scratches. It took less than an hour to do both, and although they did not look new it was a great inexpensive solution to the problem. .
