I need some type of charger to keep the battery on my atv fully charged through the winter.Anyone have any experience with these 2 types of chargers.Which is better?Price isnt a problem but if they are pretty much the same, then why pay 20 bucks more?
Battery Tender Plus--- $39.95 new on Ebay
Battery Companion---$19.00 at Wal-Mart
Thanks guys for all the good info.I think i will go with the Battery Tender and spend the extar cash. All your answers are good so i'll let this go for a vote.Thanks.
I have several different brands and sizes of battery chargers that all work well... couldn't find the Battery Companion at walmart online, but found several different models here http://www.batteryweb.com/schumacher-mod ellist.cfm?Use=TRICKLE+%2F+SLOW+%2F+MAIN TAINER+CHARGERS including one that is comparible to the Battery Tender Plus...
key points to a battery charger for your atv is it being a trickle charger (1-2 amps) at the correct voltage (6 or 12, many have a switch for both) with an automatic shut off when the battery is fully charged... plain and simple.
I even use one of the very cheap ones like used to charge the dry or gel cell batteries like used on wild game feeders on one of my bikes, only about $12-14... so just depends on extra features that you would like to have, like quick disconnects, LEDs, variable settings for a quick charge, etc.
I have a Battery Tender too with the quick disconnects for one of my KTMs, merely unplug under the seat and go ride... my other KTM, I have the cheapy one listed above that has alligator clips that I have to clamp on the battery contacts, so I have to disconnect clips and then re-install the seat...takes about 5 minutes to be ready to ride... quick disconnects are convenient but not manditory.

Great question. They will both keep your ATV battery charged, but the Battery Tender gives you a bit more bang for the buck - and you said price wasn't an issue...so what more do you get?
The Battery Tender is a 4 stage charger: Initialization, Bulk Charge, Absorption Mode, Float Mode. From what I know of the Schumacher Battery Companion, it will charge until the battery is at full charge and then go to float mode.
The Battery Tender also has built-in diagnostics - Red & Green Lights Alternately Flash for Reverse Polarity or when the battery is sulfated or if the battery terminals are corroded.
They both have short leads with quick connects that can be installed and left on the vehicle - that makes hook-up a snap.
I own the Battery Tender and it gets a lot of use between the 6 bikes and 1 quad we have. I also own Schumacher chargers-big ones, and they do a great job too.
For what you say you need it to do, either one will suffice....
Good luck and keep the rubber down! :)

How long would it take to charge a 1993 ex 500 ninja battery with a 12 volt charger?

The brand is deltran battery tender junior. It's 12 volt 750 mA. I started charging at 6:30-7:00pm and it is now 12:24am how long foes it normally take?
It depends upon how many amps the charger puts out . any more than 10 amps is hard on any battery 2-5 amps should be safe for any Bat.
about 3-10 hours depending on how discharged it is
Solid state two color LED indicates stage of charger; a quick connect harness for use in hard to reach areas
Complete 4-step charging program (initialization, bulk charge, absorption mode and float mode) that maintains batteries at full charge without overcharging via its 4-step charging system
Automatically switches to float/maintenance mode voltage after fully charging the battery
