PCM2 iPod interface.... is an FM transmitter?
26.07.11
My previous car had a self-installed Alpine double-DIN headunit that had awesome iPod integration. You could change the tracks quickly and easily using the touchscreen interface, etc. Anyway, I knew going in that PCM would be a downgrade in functionality terms but reading Tequipment I was pleased to see there was an addon to allow iPod integration (part no: 997 044 901 70) Upon further reading I was horrified to read that this isn't integration at all, it's basically a glorified FM transmitter? Worse still, word on the grapevine (I haven't verified yet) is that it's a several hundred pound option. So unless I'm mistaken it's one-way communication, and to change tracks you have to still play with the iPod, which would be sat in the centre console (which on the Cayman/Boxster at least would be an awkward place to play with while you're driving). Is that seriously what Porsche expect people to have to do? Someone tell me that this option is something more

How does the FM transmitter/car adapter work if I want to play my songs from my iPod through the stereo?
Aug 30, 2009 by Trent R | Posted in Car Audio
I'm looking for a device that allows me to play the songs from my ipod library through my car speakers.
I have heard about the FM transmitters, and finding a correct station to match with your car radio, but I'm wondering what that has to do with anything and why that's significant to listening to music through the stereo.
In simpler terms, how does the FM transmitter/car adapter work if I want to use it in my car?
Please help - thanks!
basicly the little fm transmitter can be set to a station
like 93.1
you tune your radio to the station u picked on your tranmitter
and the transmitter puts out waves to that channel and its kinda like ur the dj for that channel, but only you can hear it. cause the transmitters are only good enough to reach your antenna and nothing further

I have one of those. Your FM radio works by picking up signals that are "flyin through the air" at different frequencies. Well when you plug in your ipod FM transmitter, it transmits a certain frequency close to your radio and all you do is turn ur radio to FM and change the channel to the channel that the Ipod transmitter is sending it to. Read the intruction manual. It shows you how to set it up. Its very easy.

How good is the FM transmitter for mp3 players on accord?
Jan 22, 2008 by Chris T | Posted in Honda
So I have 2005 Accord 4door EX, and since it does now come with audio in, I am tempted to buy a FM transmitter recommended by people on yahoo so I can hook my mp3 player (not ipod) to the transmitter and then hook transmitter to cigarrete port. I've been getting good + bad feedbacks, any opinions here?
I have an '03 Accord EX-L and I use a monster cable FM transmitter and I think it works pretty damn good (I've tried three other FM transmitters). It hardly has static, and if you have a little you can find another station that's free. You (2003-2005 Accord owners) cannot get a factory installed auxiliary interface, it won't fit behind the radio. That would be your best bet, but I've researched and it's not possible. I really recommend getting a good (not $10) FM transmitter. Good Luck.

I don't think the make and model of the car impact performance of FM transmitters. I have an Accord and Pilot, and use the same Kensington FM Transmitter for my Ipod in both with very satisfying performance. The trick is to find an unused FM frequency in your area. The only time I get faint static is on bridges. The other option is to see if Honda sells the accessory adapter cord for your car. Probably will cost a couple of hundred to have Honda install it, but you'll have no static with a direct plug-in.

What is the best universal FM transmitter for automobiles?
Dec 04, 2007 by SoulDawg 4 UGA | Posted in Car Audio
The cassette deck in my car broke recently, and I won't be able to have it repaired for a while. I had been using a cassette adapter with my XM tuner and CD player.
My least expensive option will be an FM transmitter.
I hear that FM transmitters vary in quality. What is the best brand/model that will give me very good sound quality? And what is the price range?
There are basically two kinds of FM transmitters... hardwired and wireless. The wireless ones are the most problematic of the two. They tend to get all kinds of interference due to the limited power output regulated by the FCC. The hardwired ones also come powered and passive. The powered ones work the best DEI and Audiovox both make decent ones, but there are plenty of decent ones out there.
All that said, you can buy a JVC CD player with an auxiliary input for under $100 that you can plug that XM into with a $5 plug from Radio Shack. That will give you the best sound, and will only be about $60 more plus mounting/installation hardware.

It's not wireless so there's no interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio. No searching for a clean channel.
It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch.
This is the answer. Totally versatile.

Links for places the but them would be great too. Thanks!
You are correct, it is called an FM transmitter. It is in Best Buy for about $19. Most use a AAA battery but some also have a cigarette lighter adaptor.

Wondering what is the best fm transmitter to buy to use in your car stereo. I know some if not all have static but which ones are the best in terms of less static and clarity.
