I have a faulty turbo on my 3208 Caterpillar.?

The turbo charger and housing is completely worn out on my Caterpillar 3208T causing a lack of power and smoke. It would cost about $2000.00 to replace it. Do you think this is necessary, or can I save that $2000.00.
The turbo is leaking oil into your intake, causing your engine to burn oil, which will eventually carbon up the valves and cause more damage. On the exhaust side, the turbo is leaking oil into the exhaust pipe, causing oil to burn there, making smoke. The smoke and oil consumption will only get worse.
If the engine is worth saving, get a new turbo, or at least find a used one in fair shape at a salvage yard or a shop.
Usually shutting off the engine right after high revs without letting idle down is what causes turbo wear.
After high rev driving, the turbo is rotating at up to 100,000 rpm, shutting off the engine without letting it idle down shuts off the turbo's oil supply while it is still spinning fast.

Well, if it's broken i guess you have to cough up that 2 grand

you dont have to replace a turbo, you just have to deal with the lack of power, but the bad turbo could then push oil through your intercooler, if you have one and into the intake which could be a problem

$2000 doesn't sound high for replacing it, but you could probably have it rebuilt for less.

If white smoke then the turbo is burning engine oil, eventually engine will only run on oil in the sump, you will not be able to turn it off or starve it of fuel and the engine will rev and rev until it blows up. So in answer to your question unfortunately you do need to spend the money :(

you need to go on and spend the money or you will regret it in the long run

I have a caterpillar engine 3208 turbo, but when it is running the diesel is exiting through the muffler?

Sounds like one of your fuel injectors has failed and can no longer properly meter fuel, instead venting it directly into the cylinder. Take it to a Cat or Cat TEPS dealer immediately; running it will put a lot of diesel into your oil, especially in that cylinder, greatly reducing lubricaiton.

i own a shop and from what i know about those its possible it may have too much fuel pressure on it,this will cause that too happen,i haven't worked on that many of those but am a little familiar with them, good luck hope this helps.

To much gas entering the motor. Not all the fuel is getting burned, so it exits through the exhaust.
