Cars have improved quality, reliability over past 5 years
23.05.12
The newfound emphasis on quality means fewer problems for owners. It also means more options for buyers, who can buy a car from Detroit or South Korea and know it will hold up like a vehicle from Japan.
With few exceptions, cars are so close on reliability that it's getting harder for companies to charge a premium. So automakers are trying to set themselves apart with sleek, cutting-edge exterior designs and more features such as luxurious interiors, multiple air bags, dashboard computers and touch-screen controls.
"It's a great time to be a consumer," says Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends for the TrueCar.com auto pricing website. "You can't really screw up too badly in terms of your vehicle choice."
It wasn't always this close.
In the 1990s, Honda and Toyota dominated in quality, especially in the key American market for small and midsize cars. Japan began building high-quality small cars and tapped into America's growing appetite for fuel efficiency in the 1970sWith their sterling reputation, they were able to charge more than Detroit automakers and cut Detroit's U.S. market share from 78 percent in 1980 to just under 43 percent in 2009, according to Ward's AutoInfoBank.
For car buyers, it's harder to end up with a lemon

Car shoppers today are less likely to end up with a lemon.
In the past five years, global competition has forced automakers to improve the quality and reliability of their vehicles — everything from inexpensive mini-cars to decked-out luxury SUVs.

Do car junk yards sell new and reliable auto parts?
Jan 09, 2009 by Jordin K | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I want to go to a junk yard or a pick up car place for auto parts since the ones I am looking for are not sold at the stores, or I can go to a dealership but their auto parts are so much more expensive. Yet, I'm concerned, because don't junk yard places sell used parts? Are they reliable? Do they help you install parts and such as well, and if so, how much is their service? thanks! I need all the information I can get.
Just go to a shop and show them the that your headlight thing broke and have them fix it. they will get the part probably from the dealer unless you ask for 1 from a junk yard and will install it for you. the labor wont be much. and a part like the 1 you are looking for will be fine from a junk yard but they probably wont install it for you. a good shop might even put it in for you for free. but if they do dont forget to tip em

well all depends what your looking for nothing is better then new parts not at a dealer but auto parts.email me and let me know what your looking for.some places you have to take off your self after spending so much time trying to find the car and parts your looking for.here they have a 25.00 min for any part.

I dont think they're job is to help/aid in installing. A junk yard is just what the title says "junk yard" everything is used, only some parts are in good condition & depending on the part they might give you a warranty,

Why do you think it's called a junkyard, moron!
mickie.mouse | Jan 09, 2009
well truth is they been in Business a long time used parts for half of what one can buy a new one for is why they there some parts just as good as what you could buy other maybe not so much... and depending on the part most people can do most anything you can find how to's by typing like... how to replace name of part year of car name of car like how to replace bumper 1999 ford f150 wil find it and some times if you add video you might even find that as well and a few auto parts stores also have how to info really knowing what is bad the hard part replacing most of the time easy... tell us what your wanting could get you answers.. like how do i replace on a could be something anyone could do.. your question not enough info of what your wanting to know but yes salvage yards are great money savers no most do not help you replace but you might ask you never know might be somene willing to make some spare money

Reliable Auto Parts for 94 Honda Accord?
Sep 01, 2010 by Vince | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
What's a great site for reliable timing belt kits for a 94 Honda Accord EX?
Honda sells cars, not parts for a 94 Accord.
Nextag doesn't help either. Which manufacturer is the most reliable?
this is good; www.nextag.com/honda-accord-timing-belt/shop-html

Honda Motors dot com.
Edit: I work at a shop and we buy lots of parts from Honda. What, do you think they sell the cars and no parts? Try using something called a phone and call and ask for the parts department and see if someone answers.

I want to modify my 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and i don't know any good websites. I want a body kit, seats, and other stuff. Is there a site just for Chevy's or what is the most reliable site to get parts?
Try JC Whitney for some things such as that. Also, for performance, try Summit Racing.
www.jcwhitney.com
www.summitracing.com
for just car parts...Rock auto
www.rockauto.com
There are others, just google for parts.

Most reliable online retailer for auto parts?
Apr 19, 2011 by SupAll | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I need to replace all of my rotors and the driver side regulator of my 94 Crown Vic to get it to pass city inspection. However, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg to buy the stuff from the dealer (even though I'm sure they're high quality parts). I don't have a lot of money and I'm only going to use the car to get to and from work (30mi each way). So, my best bet is to buy OEM, but I don't know who is a trustworthy online retailer. For instance, is CarPartsWholesale.com a reliable vendor?
