Signing washed-up Manny Ramirez another baffling move by the A's

The Oakland A's are the clown car of baseball, a small market team crammed with weird ideas. Just when you think they've all emerged, another one pops out.

This week 's floppy-shoed, red-nosed development is Manny Ramirez, an almost 40-year-old, two-time drug violator whose last good year was in 2008. The A's agreed to a minor league contract with Ramirez; he's expected to be in camp on Friday.

General manager Billy Beane called the deal "low risk" on Tuesday. And that's true. The A's don't do high-risk financial moves. The A's will only be on the hook for less than $500,000 when -- if? -- Ramirez joins the major league roster after serving a 50-game suspension.

So, yes, it is low-risk. But the question isn't about risk. It's about why?

Two months ago, the A's were in the process of shredding the foundation of a decent young team, a team built on its strong young pitching staff. That was a team that could have used a big bat to get it over the top.

Rusty Bolt & Bracket Shatters Windshield Of NJ Man's Car On Queensboro Bridge

Like a bolt from the blue, the bolt and bracket slammed the windshield of Campbell’s car and his view at 35 mph instantly went from clear to cracked.

“Luckily I was inside a car, the car did it’s job and protected me,” he said.

What should have stayed attached to the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge could have killed him as he was driving on the lower level and was almost all the way across from Manhattan to Queens.

Campbell said he couldn’t believe it as a big rusty bolt dealt his Mercedes a triple blow, striking the windshield once, and then twice.

The bolt stayed on the roof as he pulled over and he kept it as a piece of evidence.

“If it wasn’t there, I wouldn’t know what it was because it could have been anything hitting the car,” Campbell said. “Once I learned what it was, I was more concerned that hopefully that wouldn’t happen to anyone else.”

Campbell directed Carlin to the spot on the bridge where city inspectors could be seen pointing straight up on Wednesday afternoon.

how do i get a small cd thats stuck in my car cdplayer out? ?

about 2 years ago my brother stuck a cd about the size of a game cube cd in my car radio and the cd got stuck. i never really tried to get it out except for with a knife an i really dont have the money to get someone else to fix it for me. i think tweezers are to big also.

My son shoved a credit card in the CD slot in my dad's car so I've had to deal with this before. Turn your car key to the accessory setting, or whatever your car calls it such that your radio has power and you can operate it. Next, GENTLY try to coax the disc into the middle of the slot using some sort of long, flat tool. I tried several things, but my pocket knife ended up working. I would think that any sort of knife would work fine. Try to get the tip of the knife above the disc and push down into the disc while pulling it towards you. If you can, come at it from an angle such that the knife isn't going right down the middle of the CD slot because the eject mechanism is generally in the middle. Keep pushing the eject button constantly while you work and hopefully it'll catch and pop it out. Good luck.

7 series5 litre beamer coupe, can soup them up big time, look unbelieveable and are well quick if u can afford it

Infiniti G37 used should be in your budget and its perfect for picking up chicks in college :D

---Have you seen an Infiniti's interior? Nice as hell man

Go classic. Get a 66 mustang fastback, or something similar. With snow, if you get an early Bronco, you can pull your friends out of the snow.

Get Camaro SS. If you want a car you can drag race this is the car for you in my opinion. You can get it with good stuff so you don't really have to add you own touches to it.
Hope this Helps.

Its kind of hard to decipher what you want from the massively long run-on sentence and various opposing items from your want list. However, if I understand correctly, you're going to turn in your father's friend's 2009 Acura TL so you can buy a SUV or sports car?

Why don't you save yourself a boat-load of extra money and headaches and just use the Acura TL? Most 18 year old guys don't know beans about driving anyway, much less racing, especially if your priority is a nice sound system and all of that. Take the Acura, which looks like a pretty nice car, and soup it up how you please. Depending on what type it is, the basic or the AWD version, you have a pretty sporty car as is. With 30 grand or so to spend, it can't be hard to get a turbo or supercharger kit installed, the stereo you want, and get the drive-train all beefed up.

If you absolutely must buy a new vehicle, then I would recommend something in the line of a Pontiac G8, since its relatively economical, and sports the nice 6.0L V8 starting at around 386 HP and similar torque figures. There are a boatload of bolt-ons and custom configurations for that motor, and if you go with power adders, its just that much more. All the various rice-rocket cars require a heck of a lot more work to attain the same power numbers that you can achieve easily from a V8 motor and the G8's weight isn't too bad in comparison. Otherwise, a Camaro (6.2L V8, same as in the Corvette Z01, minus some tuning and a supercharger) is a good buy.

The various smaller cars are interesting, but consider going with a 6 cylinder platform if you need to go that way. The Nissan Maxima from only a few years ago is a good candidate. The newest one is a porker, so stay away from it.

All in all, it sounds like you don't really know what you want. Its likely best that you sound things out and really think things through before you go out and trade in a perfectly good car to buy something that you may not want within a couple of months. If you really want to race, skip the pointless body kits and giant wheels and work up from the chassis. Reasonable wheel size, good tires, good suspension, and corresponding brakes should be first. Anything over 17 inch wheels are really a waste. Tiny strips of rubber will make your ride quality stink and possibly damage those expensive wheels. No point in going fast if you can't stop the thing, so don't skimp on the brakes. Shore up the chassis as much as possible to avoid flex, and get nice shocks and coils so that all the power you will eventually create will actually do something when it hits the pavement. The more electronics you add, the more electricity you'll need, the bigger alternator you'll need, and you'll just lose horsepower. Have a power number in mind, map it out with someone who knows how to get there, then make your progress from there with an eye open for how to get from there to more when you take the next step. Quality over quantity.

Personally, I'd use that money to pump up the Acura... or just leave it be. Learn to drive, get your crashes and mistakes out of the way, and keep your insurance premiums reasonable. Just an old guy's opinion, I guess, but no one ever handed me a luxury car and 32 grand to throw around.

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net

Good time to Buy a Small Car??

I've been contemplating buying a car recently given the economy, the price of gas, and that car sales are at a 10-year-low. The thing is I'd be interested in getting a Small Car such as a Honda Fit, Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. The only problem is these are the only cars that have been selling welll recently. It seems to me that some dealerships are moving so few other cars (SUVS, Pickups!) that it would still be possible to get a good deal. I mean they want to be selling anything they can... right? I have a stable job in Video Games and my credit is good. So given that wouldn't dealerships jump at the chance to sell me a car?

What should I do to insure the best deal on a car right now? How should I approach dealerships and what should I say to get the best deal? Is now the best time to even buy a new car? Could sales get even worse? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Pontiac Vibe

it the mechanical twin to the Toyota Matrix but sells for much less.

also look at Kia Rondo

How badly a dealer is willing to sell a car can depend on how many he has in stock. Simple economics dictates supply & demand on one item usually means a high price on it. If you want a truck or suv, offer invoice anytime on it + take the rebate on it. The smaller cars like the Fit are not leaving the lot no less than MSRP. There are a few more Civics out there than there are Fit's. I haven't look at the Corolla but I imagine demand for them is high too. Sales on trucks and suv's are likely to get worse if the price of fuel continues to rise. When that happens, economy car sales are to climb. If you want a killer deal, find that suv you've always wanted that was recently traded in to a dealer & make them an offer. Make it ridiculously low. Tell them take it or let it collect dust. Because that is likely to happen for a long time. The best time of the month to buy a new car is at the end of the month when quotas are low & they need to move inventory. To get the best deal is all about research. You gotta get on the internet and find out what invoice is on the car you narrow down to get. Plus find out as much about your trades worth at KBB.com. Now get busy & good luck.

Will the dealer trade my car?

A few months ago, after having a motorcycle as my only vehicle for a while - I decided I really needed a car. So, young and dumb me went to the dealer. I got pushed between deals and quotes after finding a dealer online with decent ratings. They played the bait and switch game though, and the car was awful when I got there so they ended up showing me different ones. The end I ended up with was a Suzuki Verona, a 2006 model. With high APR, I didn't too much car - I understood that at my age and credit level this would happen. However, I specifically told them I commute a lot and I didn't care about looks - I just needed something good on gas. "Oh, this car gets great gas mileage".. I wanted to go home and look up reviews and check, but I kept getting pressured and I ended up with it. The down side: This tank gets 19-20 mpg. I stopped by and looked around the lot the other day and they have several Forenza's they are almost half the price of what I am paying now. The payments would not kill me by themselves, but the gas is getting to me as I have to commute 13 miles to work one way, 35 to school on way, about 20 to martials and about 10 to Rugby practice. I commute, a lot. And this car is eating gas like crazy. What upsets me is the sales guy that sold me this guy, told me all these lies (About the car having keyless entry and I would get the other key fob thing later) and quit la couple of weeks or so afterwards. Is there any chance the dealer will let me trade in for a lesser car/smaller car? Or am I stuck with my battle tank?
Is there any way I can give the dealer the car back, without taking a hit to my credit?

Read your paperwork. You can only get what was written in your sales contract. If your keyless entry isnt supposed to go with it I wouldnt hold my breath waiting if I were you.

Here is how the dealer trade will go down. Since you have recently purchased the vehicle you havent paid enough of it off for them to buy your car and you pay off your loan. The only other option you have, and a STUPID one at that, is to go in there and get a new car with the remainder of your current loan tacked on to the new loan. It gets you into a car with better gas mileage but it will raise your payments as I am assuming you will have no down payment and you will be paying for the next 7 years on what should have been a 4 year loan.

You caved under the pressure so dont blame anyone else. You came to the game unprepared so as they say dont hate the player hate the game. If I were you I would start looking into ways to conserve your fuel. Find places to workout and practice closer to home, if there are toll roads in your area get a pass instead of driving the more congested and longer route on the highway. Make sure your engine is in tip top shape and keep your tires at the correct amount of air pressure.

Learn to love your car youll be with it for a while.

What would be a good car to "trick out".?

I was inspired by a video game (stupid i know). I am going to be buying a new car soon and was wondering as to what kind I should get. Also I need to know where would be a good place to buy body kits and the necessary performance parts. I also need to know where to get exterior parts such as roof scoops, rims, etc.. In the game I had a Chevy cobalt ss. I don't like the tininess of the smaller cars such as a miata. A mitsubishi eclipse would be where i draw the line.

Nissan Sentra R is a great choice.

So is the Subaru WRX. Just a beast of an engine.
