Boehner: 'Damn Time' US Had National Energy Policy
Its just about damn time that we actually have a national energy policy enough of this, Mr. Boehner told reporters Tuesday.
Mr. Boehner said it was simple supply and demand factors, and not speculation by oil traders, that has behind the sudden rise in gas prices. The AAA auto club currently lists the national average price for a gallon of regular gas at $3.716, up about 30 cents from a month earlier and well above levels a year ago.
Gasoline prices have become a hot topic on the campaign trail, and there are growing fears that prices will continue to climb sharply heading into the summer months when U.S. drivers tend to drive more, creating a politically volatile election year issue for the White House and lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
Mr. Boehner and other members of leadership said approval of the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline, which has been delayed by the White House, would help ease the current gas price concerns.
The more that we can do to show the world that were going to move toward energy self -sufficiency I think youll see the prices on the world market begin to come down, Mr. Boehner said.
