California gasoline prices shot upward by double digits in most areas over the past week, according to price surveys Friday.
These large increases are not unusual for mid-February, although we typically see them more often in March and April, says Jeffrey Spring, a spokesman for the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Unfortunately, even without this large increase, prices were already at record levels for February. If prices continue to increase at this pace, most areas will have averages above $4 a gallon in the next few week, Mr. Spring says.
Californias average price on Friday, Feb. 17 is $3.956, up 15.5 cents in one week, the Triple A says. The current average is 45.3 cents higher

I encountered of Auto-Repair Fraud. Who should I contact?
Jun 22, 2007 by nena | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
This is serious, please no stupid remarks.
I live in Philadelphia, PA. My car was leaking power steering & 1 day it leaked. I took it to get fixed at AAA auto rentals & repair in Montgomeryville(Not associated w/ AAA) & the mechanic told me I had a broken steering rack & it would cost $704! I told him hold off b/c i wanted to talk to my husband 1st. My husband has a friend mechanic that said he would do it for $200! So I called him back & said forget it, I will take it somewhere else. He was really mad & said 'Fine, but it will cost you $88 for me looking at it" I said ok & picked my car up that evening. When I got it it was running beautifully!
I took it to my husbands friend & he said there is NO BROKEN STEERING RACK!! He said it was probably a loose hose & the guy must have reconnected it! So he lied & tried to scam me out of $700! Who can I write a report to in PA to get them in trouble?? I already wrote to the BBB. Thank you!
Your best bet would be to contact your states attorney general. I'm sure you can file a complaint through that office. More than likely you can do it online.

Car rental insurance? I have auto insurance and credit card insurance.?
May 14, 2008 by PhoenixFire | Posted in Insurance & Registration
Hi, I'm totally new to car rentals (having just turned 21 a few months ago). I'm planning on getting a car from Dollar Car Rentals. I have auto insurance via AAA and I know that if I use a major credit card, there's some coverage there as well.
Am I required to purchase insurance through Dollar, or am I able to use my own? What about the credit card coverage?
Thanks!
This question is in regards to CAR RENTAL insurance, not typical everyday Auto insurance.
Thanks.
If you have an insured car that is parked while you use the rental, The coverage from your parked car will extend to the rental. Most credit cards also provide Collision Damage Waiver insurance if you use the card to pay for the rental. To be sure contact your credit card company and ask. If you have both your own policy and and credit card coverage, you do not need to buy the rental car company insurance

If you have full coverage on your regular auto insurance that will automatically carry over to the rental car. If you do not have full coverage you can add it for the time you're renting the vehicle and then remove it OR purchase the insurance directly from the rental company.

need new auto insurance policy; have history of non accidental damage to rental car
Aug 11, 2008 by j2004in | Posted in Insurance & Registration
I have been renting cars before, but now I am buying a used car tomorrow for the first time. I am planning to get new policy with AAA for the car insurance. I recently got my driving license. 2 months back, unknowingly I had a non-collision damage to an insured rental car. I think I hit the curb and there was a dent in the car below right side front door. I had comprehensive insurance, so I got away with no problem then. Rental car company(Enterprise) told me that it's OK since I have comprehensive coverage.
Now , since I need to take car insurance tomorrow, do i need to tell AAA auto insurance agents about this incident. I guess if I tell them about it, my premiums will increase. I would appreciate if I can get a quick response.
They will find out anyways since they run your driving record.
If the claim was paid under comprehensive then they thought it was a vandalism claim. Otherwise if you did it, it would be a collision claim.
So, I think you got lucky. Comprehensive would probly not count against you, only collision would. But don't mention it, let them figure it out and let you know.

Car accident, who's gonna pay?
Mar 03, 2011 by Ivan Vaschenko | Posted in Insurance & Registration
I was involved in a very minor accident which wasn't my fault. I drove a rental car in Los Angeles and some guy cut in front of me scratching my bumper. We both pulled over, I called the police but they said they don't report this kind of accidents. So we exchanged the names, license #'s and other info.
Now it gets interesting - I have no auto insurance but I did have a damage waiver from the rental company. When I rented the car they offered me two options - one that covers only my car, and the other that also covers another driver's car. I chose the least expensive (silly me).
Few weeks later I got a letter from the rental company, they wanted me to pay $500 for the repair, but waived it when I pointed out I had the damage waiver. A month later I received a call demanding that I provide my auto insurance, I said I didn't have one. Few days later I got a letter from Claims Resource Services acting on behalf of AAA (?) demanding that I pay $2400 - clearly inflated, the other guy's car had even less damage than mine.
I used a visa credit card to rent the car, so I filed a claim with them. Do you think they can help me? It's carried by GE Money Bank if it matters. I'm gonna try to gather as much paperwork as I can and send it to them. What else can I do?
Thank you!
I'm not sure how VISA is gonna help you out, except by getting the money back you spent on renting the car. Not sure also why the police didn't appear because a report is necessary to determine who's fault was it and the facts of it. Now like you said, you had the waiver so all you need to do is to prove that it was his fault, You have to contact whoever is suing you for the 2400.00 and explain to them that it was the other driver's fault and off course they are not gonna cooperate so you tell them that you are gonna take this case to a small claims court if they don't let off the claim. I don't know your location but where i'm at many attorneys will give you a 30 minutes free consultation where you can ask all the relevant questions based on your case. Good luck!
