EPA Streamlines Aftermarket Natural Gas Conversion
05.04.11
NGVAmerica, the trade association that represents the natural gas vehicle industry, applauded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's decision to streamline the requirements for certifying aftermarket systems that are used to convert vehicles to run on natural gas. The agency's action modifies regulations that have been in force for aftermarket conversions since April 2002 and that were adopted pursuant to the federal Clean Air Act.
The new regulations will make it less burdensome and less expensive for companies that offer vehicle conversion systems for many existing cars and trucks, says the group.
"EPA's decision is particularly important in the case of heavy-duty fleets, since currently, because of cost, there are no EPA approved conversion systems for diesel vehicles," says Richard Kolodziej, NGV president. "Because heavy-duty fleet vehicles are the biggest consumers of fuel, they have the greatest potential for by reducing the country's dependence

Pete Kornafel, vice chairman, CARQUEST Corp., was our guest speaker for our opening night dinner Sunday. I had the pleasure to meet Pete and his wife, Annie, before dinner and we had a very interesting conversation regarding OEM warranties and the cost to the organization down the road. Mr. Kornafel said most CEOs who launch long warranties aren’t with their company seven years later to deal with the costs and ramifications to the organization. He referenced Lee Iacocca’s run with Chrysler (7 years/100,000-mile warranty).
The most enjoyable, and educational, part of Mr. Kornafel’s talk covered underperforming employees. His advice to us was to take a zero-tolerance policy. In fact, chances are the rest of your co-workers will want to shake your hand for separating these individuals from your company. The next day, your organization will be stronger and you've probably even done that employee a favor, Kornafel pointed out.
Pete's words have stuck in my mind since dinner Sunday night. Great advice!

What aftermarket upgrades would be good for my truck?
Oct 03, 2007 by Jeebus | Posted in Ford
I'm driving an '04 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L and was just wondering what kinds of aftermarket upgrades would be good for this truck? I have cold air intake already and am looking into a dual exhaust in the near future but what else is there?
There are always the taillights, headlights, lower or lift kits, wheels, rollpan, front bumper, hoods, optima battery, new power and ground cables, inside electronics, maybe even a header. There are a few different aftermarkets out there for your truck, just not a whole lot like others. What I always say"The sky is the limit".You just gotta think of ideas, what you want, and go for it.

The fiverglass tonneau cover it will save you a litlle bit of gas and the air won't stop your truck while racing

The first I would do is drop it 2 inches and put on a low profile tire. Add a body kit to it. run dual exhaust on it from the cat back.Another thing to do is, if you have a laptop, find a program that will help you tune the engine thru the ECM. You can find these at auto parts store, but you may also have to do some searching in magazines like Motor Trend and Car Weekly. Also try watching "Trucks" and "Horse Power" on Spike TV. They will give you advice on how to tune your truck to get the optimum performance out of you ride.

Get your exhaust modified at a Muffler shop, 2- 21/2 inch pipes through a muffler like a Flowmaster will allow the cold air intake to work like it is supposed to. You could also get some "shorty" Headers, always check your shocks and upgrade. Check out Fuel injector spacers like PowerAid they do help with both the power and MPG, quick and easy to install!

What are the cheapest/easiest aftermarket parts to put on a motorcycle to make it faster?
Jul 30, 2007 by gr8diver2000 | Posted in Motorcycles
I ride a Suzuki SV650 and want to know what aftermarket parts will make it faster. If I put an aftermarket tail pipe on it, will it increase performance or only make it sound different?
Like Jesse said there is no real cheap mod. Your bike a fuel injection so forget all that talk about carbs. The 1st thing most people do is a performance exhaust for your bike I highly recommend M4 for your bike since it's a V-Twin not an in-line 4. M4 will give the best sound for the V-Twin as opposed to some like Yoshimura and better hp delivery than ones like D&D or V&H. With any exhaust mod you'll need a power commander (about $300), and you could get a performance air filter (around $70), try indysuperbikes.com. You will need to get it mapped, check your local shops for labor prices. That's a great start. The exhaust is gonna vary in price depending if you get slip ons (about $275) which is just the cans. That will give you just a slight hp boost and better sound or the full system (about $550) that will give you a nice hp boost and an even better sound. The money is worth it in my humble opinion. Ether way if you make any changes to the exhaust you're gonna need the PC. Good luck!

certain after market pipes help the engine run better because theirs less back pressure in the exhaust. You could put larger jets in the carb. that way it gets more fuel
bigjonesy48 | Jul 30, 2007
performance carb, and depending on what exhaust you put on it, depends on if you gained any real horsepower or not

three simple parts are exhaust /air breather/powercommander for fi bikes or rejet the carb.
honda vtx | Jul 30, 2007
there is no cheap in this siede of the world. anything will be 200+ per item!
but the air intake, exhaust and fuel management will be a good start.

Is there any aftermarket stereo that will work with my sterring wheel controls in my 98 Jeep Grand cherokee?
I would like to replace my factory stereo with something else but I don't want to lose my steering wheel controls for the volume and tuning. Kinda handy!
Yes, most aftermarket stereos will work, but you have to buy an adapter, crutchfield carries them, there about $70. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Y7UTaqQU7Jh /cgi-bin/Prodgroup.asp?g=118900&avf= Y

IF your factory wire harness is there you can actually use the harness thats hooked up to the jensen...just unhook the wires 1 by 1 then simply hook them up to the new deck color by color..... if the harness is not there and the old radio is wired straight to the cars wires do the same thing i just mentioned... folow the colors 1 by 1... IE.... yellow to yellow......red to red....black to black....violet to violet....green to green....ETC

What's the difference between Honda aftermarket dirt bike and regular Honda dirt bike?
Mar 03, 2009 by Sarah | Posted in Motorcycles
From what I understand, the aftermarket bikes are still made with all Honda parts? Is it almost like having a "refurbished" Honda dirt bike? The same way they sell "refurbished" ipods, cameras, cell phones etc.? Or is there a lot more to it?
Would a 150cc aftermarket Honda dirt bike still have the same power, durability, and endurance as a plain 150cc Honda?
when somebody says aftermarket it usually just means that there are some aftermarket parts on the bike, it doesn't mean the entire bike is aftermarket. unless its a bike i have never heard of. but i wouldn't get one if its all aftermarket because thats not a honda, its something else, somebody is probably trying to get money out of you. but it might have some after market parts and those are just parts that you can buy and put on the bike yourself and they are cheaper. but buy a real honda and do your own modifications, don't risk the aftermarket one.
