Lakeside wins, now tied for second place
Tayler Flemming hit a pair of free throws late in the game as Lakeside edged Newport 52-48 in Northeast A League girls basketball Tuesday night in Nine Mile Falls.
The Grizzlies tied the game in the final minute, but Flemming’s free throws gave the Eagles the lead for good. Flemming scored 13 points.
Jenna Widman had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Jocelyn Cook-Cox added 15 points for Lakeside (8-6, 3-1), which won the rebounding battle 37-25.
Courtney Wiese and Miranda Frederick combined for 27 points for Newport (9-4, 1-3).
Freeman 50, Colville 35: Alyssa Maine had 17 points and four steals and the Scotties (13-0, 4-0) took over sole possesion of first place with a win over the visiting Indians (7-6, 3-1). Molly McIntyre added 12 points for Freeman. Erin Little led Colville with 10.
Riverside 47, Chewelah 34: Courtney Davis had game-highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds as the Rams (6-8, 1-3) started the game on a 6-0 run and ran past the visiting Cougars (2-12, 0-4). Ryann Richmond tossed in a team-high 14 points for Chewelah.
