Chemical plant shutdown could lead to auto production cuts
23.05.12
The potential shortage of a key component used to make fuel lines and brake lines could force automakers in the U.S. and around the world to close car and truck plants as they run short of parts.
Auto industry executives have scheduled an unprecedented meeting on Tuesday in suburban Detroit to talk about the problem. Officials from as many as 10 automakers and dozens of parts supply companies are set to attend.
A March 31 explosion at Evonik Industries in western Germany killed two workers and damaged a factory that makes CDT. That chemical is a key component in a nylon resin called PA12, which is used to make a specialized plastic. The plastic is used in auto fuel lines and brake lines. It is also a component in solar cells, pipelines, sporting goods and household items.
Any auto plant closures that might result from the shortage would come at a crucial time for the industry. U.S. sales are the highest they have been in recent years as the industry recovers from the recession. March was the best month for the industry in nearly five years.
US Clean Diesel Auto Sales Increase 35 Percent in 1st Quarter of 2012

Higher Fuel Prices Have Americans Seeking More Fuel Efficient Cars"This 35 percent increase in clean diesel auto sales during the first quarter of 2012 is a continuation of the 27 percent sales jump in 2011," said Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum.
"With higher fuel prices, Americans are seeking more fuel efficient cars so it's understandable that diesel and hybrid cars are showing such impressive sales increases. In addition, the new federal fuel efficiency standards that will required a 54.5 mpg average by 2025 will also boost clean diesel auto sales, as diesel cars are 20 to 40 more fuel efficient than gasoline versions.
Clean Diesel Autos Are Among the Most Environmentally Friendly Available"American drivers are also recognizing the environmental benefits of the new clean diesel technology," Schaeffer said. "Earlier this month, the Mercedes-Benz S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY clean diesel received the prestigious '2012 World Green Car' award during the New York International Auto Show. This followed the January announcement that the Volkswagen Passat TDI clean diesel had been selected the '2012 Earth, Wind & Power Car of the Year for Most Earth Friendly' automobile.

gsm-auto.com have developed a system for controlling heaters on aircraft . How will that ever work?
Mar 13, 2009 by Nij 5 | Posted in Aircraft
gam-auto.com have developed a system for controlling heaters on aircraft and i wonder how would that work.
I had a quick look at the GSM-AUTO WEBSITE but it left me a little confused.
Does anybody know how this GSM-AUTO HEATER works.
Well, it says PRE-HEATERS not heaters and it allows you to remotely switch ON or OFF the pre-heater for an aircraft. In cold climates or temperatures it often is necessary to warm the engines in order to assure oil flow on start up and make start up easier. (or to warm the fuel if needed)
Pre-heaters are only used before a flight and aren't used during flight. They are usually (although not always) electrically powered from a plug on the wall. Many cars also have "pre-heaters" on the oil pans.
These switches simply allow you to "call" the device and switch the heater on from your cell phone. Actually a nice idea for things they don't even mention on the web site. (unless someone calls it by mistake!)

It's for controlling a preheater, not a heater. In cold climates its normal for piston aircraft engines to be warmed by an external heater before starting the engine. This reduces engine wear by ensuring the oil will flow freely at start-up
The device you are asking about is simply a switch that can be triggered by a phone. It requires a phone line, and when it gets a ring tone it opens or closes the switch. You use it to turn on your preheater. That way you can turn on the preheater in your hanger by phone before leaving for the airport. The preheat process may take 15 to 20 minutes to be effective, so starting it remotely can save a lot of time.

How does the www.uship.com deposit fee work to auto transport? When listing a vehicle who gets the deposit fee?
Jul 23, 2009 by Lars C | Posted in Buying & Selling
I need auto transport from Bronx, New York to Miami, Florida.Who should I use, a auto transport broker who I see on my google search or should I go to www.uship.com?
Uship.com gets the deposit fee. I must say that the system they use to make money is very clever. It is free to post listings on the auto transport board. However when you register with uship.com you must put a credit card on file. This credit card will be charged once you accept a bid from a transporter/service provider. So to break it down, Uship.com is an auto transport broker without doing any auto transport broker work. The service provider bids on your vehicle transport job. When the bid is placed a tier fee is deducted out of the total transport cost. So lets say you receive a bid for $650 to transport your car from NY to Miami. Out of that $650 uship.com will take $130 and leave the truck driver with $520. This may be a little off because there deposit fee system is very complex. Most auto transport brokers charge $150-200 which is almost reasonable if you are not in the auto transport industry. I can at least say a good broker would be a better choice because they probably worked with the truck driver that would transport your car if you choose them. To pay $130 for a service that you have no clue about is not worth it. Nothing too bad can happen if you go through a uship.com provider. The worst thing could be giving a deposit to the truck driver and never hearing from them again. I have seen many complaints like this as of recent. If damage is to occur on your vehicle through a uship provider uship.com will not help. At least a good broker will hopefully try to solve the problem. I just feel the amount uship.com receives is not worth the support that you will not get from them. My site charges $15 to post your vehicle load straight to the transport truck versus $130+ for the same service or less. You can checkout any registered transporter's qualifications at http://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/CompanySnapsh ot.aspx . If you do not feel capable dealing with the transporter/truck driver directly then just go through an auto transport broker or email us at yourtransportboard@gmail.com. We do not mean to bash uship.com so hard but this is the truth and that is how a lot of people along with myself feel. Uship.com hurts the blue collar transport industry and takes business away from hard working people that actually provide a good service. Thanks,

Denver News
BBB Flooded With Complaints On 2 Auto Auction Sites
Stars-Automart, Autoaven Sent Cease And Desist Letters
POSTED: 12:41 pm MDT August 11, 2009
DENVER -- The Denver office of the Better Business Bureau said its telephone helpline has been jammed with calls from people across the country who are asking about two auto sales Web sites that claim to be headquartered in Denver.
According to the BBB, calls have been nonstop and the BBB has sent a "cease and desist" notice regarding trademark infringement to the company because of a fake BBB report the sites link to that falsely shows the company with an A+ rating.
The two Web sites list one physical address as 10701 W. Sixth Ave, but that address actually belongs to BBB Accredited business, Automotive Avenues, Inc. Another link goes to 3925 Monaco Parkway, which actually belongs to Cintas Document Management -- a paper shredding company.
The two Web sites, www.stars-automart.com and www.autoaven.com, claim to offer sales of repossessed vehicles.
The BBB said customers complain that once a majority payment is sent via MoneyGram to a Denver address, the company ceases communication. The company has not responded to the BBB.
An Internet check shows the two domain names are registered to a private registration company in Sunnyvale, Calif.
The BBB said it sent out the warning because on-delivery and Internet auction fraud were the top two complained-about fraud types at the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
"The BBB takes complaints very seriously and does not want any more consumers to be victimized," a news release stated.
TheDenverChannel attempted to contact the Web sites without success. The phone number listed on the site goes to a recording, which suggests callers contact them by e-mail. The same section of the stars-automart.com Web site lists a James Stewart as the owner.
To protect from online scams, the BBB has the following suggestions:
• Verify any organization credentials with the organization directly, (BBB, AutoTrader, Consumer Reports logos, etc.)
• Check the company’s BBB report at www.denver.bbb.org or by calling 303-758-2100. Only do business online with websites you are familiar with and that have a positive track record.
• Make sure the website has a privacy policy. It will contain agreements on how the information you provide on the website will be used and kept private and secure. Print this and keep it in your records.
• The privacy policy may also contain the company’s mailing address. Only do business with companies that provide a sure method of contact, should something go wrong.
• Do not wire transfer any payment. Wired funds cannot be traced and therefore cannot be recovered if you are a victim of fraud.
• If you have become a victim of fraud, contact your BBB and the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov to file a complaint.
Please dont fall for this and report them to law enforcement
hopefully yahoo will prevent all the pro scammers from entering data on this site.
I am only trying to warn people that the scammers come on yahoo and say that they are a good company when they are a scam. If you feel that this is wrong to post this information please send me an email
N
I am one of those idiots who fell for the scam. Then the scammers come on YA and tell what a good deal it is. All I'm trying to do is prevent others form becoming and idiot
you mean Stars-automart.com, autoaven.com and barrera-autosales.com are scams??
I thought something was fishy when I saw the same exact Ford Flex on all three sites with the same stock numbers, pictures and VINs.
Good thing there are vigilent people on YA to try and stop others from losing their shirts.
Thanks for the heads up!
