Safety officials have ramped up their investigation of 2002 and 2003 Jeep Liberty SUVs because of reports that the vehicles’ airbags may suddenly inflate when there has been no collision.
The agency said it has received 87 reports of inadvertent airbag deployments that resulted in 50 alleged injuries. Injuries included cuts, bruises and burns to the upper body.
In 42 cases, the driver-side front airbag deployed unexpectedly and in 45 incidents both the driver and front passenger bags inflated without a crash. Sometimes the problem occurred as the vehicles were started. In other cases the bags reportedly deployed as Jeeps were driven on the road.
NHTSA, which is working with Jeep parent company Chrysler Group LLC, said the problem has been traced to an electrical flaw that may cause part of the airbag-control system to fail. However, there is still no clear reason for the airbag defect. This type of investigation sometimes leads to a safety recall.

How much does a decent quality BMW upper control arm, lower control arm, and wheel spindle cost, combined?
Jun 27, 2008 by Mustafa H | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
It's for the rear driver-side wheel. Can I install these things myself? I don't want to pay $950 - $1450 for some other jackass to do it, if I can do it myself. I'd rather spend significantly less, just buying the parts and installing it by myself. I'm a quick learner. Can someone show me a link or a guide for doing it myself. Can someone also offer me a link or site for buying these parts, at a decent quality for a reasonable price?
The install is easy but after you do it you have to get the rear aligned. If you do not then the car will not go straight and the tire will wear uneven and quickly.

Car pulls to the right even AFTER alignment... details below?
Dec 11, 2008 by abnOrmal | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Briefly, I slid on some ice and hit the curb... fairly hard. I ended up replacing upper control arm, lower arm and strut rod on the front wheel passenger side. Mechanic also noticed the tire on that side was closer to the back of the car than it should be (not centered in the wheel well) Anyways he sent me to get an alignment (who apparently did toe in toe out) and noticed the same thing. The car still pulls.
He then said I might need to pull the suspension or something like that because something might have been bent (beyond the control arms which were replaced)
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA IF THIS IS TRUE?
WHAT COULD BE MY PROBLEM?
WHAT IS THIS SUSPENSION PULLING PROCEDURE?
(EXTRA INFO- tire pressures are fine, the front passenger side wheel was switched with driver side rear wheel at the body shop.)
Help!
Switch the front wheels left to right again and see if it pulls to the other side, if it does then you have a tire issue. If not, hopefully you got a printout from the place that did the alignment, if so state the actual measurements so I can see. The place that did the alignment should easily be able to tell if the angles are not within specifications and should have advised you.
Dr. Car Guy | Dec 11, 2008
A decent frame shop should be able to fix your problems. An alignment shop should also but sometimes..... Anyway, if you hit hard enough to bend suspension components you could have bent the sub frame (if your car has one) or just knocked it out of alignment. The alignment shop should have fixed your problem or told you why they couldn't. Even if it is just a bent wheel or spindle or whatever the alignment shop should find it and let you know in writing why it can't be fixed without parts replacement.
mikey | Dec 11, 2008
It sounds like the frame is bent. The structure that the control arms mount to have been damaged and need to be pulled back into square. Some body shops have this equipment . The car is placed on a machine that pulls the body and frame back into alignment.
junior | Dec 11, 2008
Don't listen to that idiot, your frame ain't bent. The problem that you are referring to is the caster. I work at tire/brake/alignment shop and I would try fixing the caster problem first ( where the tire is closer the the rear of the car. If that don't work than try rotating your tires after that check to see if the sub-frame is bent (apply only to some vehicles) and finally if all this don't work find a new alignment guy.
abraham f | Dec 11, 2008
Sounds like you bent the chassis. It will need to go on a frame machine and be straightened or pulled out to get the wheel back where it needs to be.
golden rider | Dec 11, 2008
It probably bent the unibody sub frame and yes it will have to be put on a frame stretcher to stretch the car back into the proper alignment, they put it on like an alignment rack and tie the car down in back with binders and pull the front sub frame until it stretches back into shape.
mister ss | Dec 12, 2008
Abraham F goes closest, as I see it.
If the wheel is displaced rearwards, the caster angle will be very poor or maybe even back at the bottom??? control arm/ wishbone.
The line of the caster angle should fall in front of the centre of the wheel, in order for the steering to naturally want to turn straight.
It's akin to the placement of the pivot on a shopping trolley wheel... the wheel will always follow "behind" the pivot.
Something is badly bent. The aligner should have realised it would be no use just adjusting toe- in.

Blue block? Are you sure it's not a Pontiac 455? If it is, don't buy it. Don't just take his word for it. Look at some pictures of a chevy big block. Make sure you know what you're looking at. Find someone who knows about Chevelles and ask him to tag along with you. Lunch will be on you.:-)
It sounds like it has a 10 bolt rear end and the gear ratio seems a little tall for the motor. 3:55's or 3:73's might be a better match. The motor is only going to be as loud as the exhaust will allow. So, it's not the motor, it's the exhaust that is loud. Look around at the body, just below the rear window corners. Is there any rust there? If not, that's good. If yes, then look inside the trunk right under the window corners and feel around. If it feels really rough, then the rust has gone all the way through. Could be a problem. I would take this guy 8000 cash (with an adult in tow) and see if he bites. If not, walk away. You will still have to invest a lot of time and money to get it into the condition that you want. Remember, you want a daily driver and some of these things are going to put the vehicle out of commission for a while. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
