Columbia Star Dinner Train hopes to be wheelchair-accessible
12.07.11
Opening to the public on Friday, the train will roll between Columbia and Centralia. Service will include a four-course dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings and a brunch on Sundays.
The Columbia Star will seat a maximum of 224 passengers, but the lack of access to people in wheelchairs remains a sticking point.
At issue is whether the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act apply to the dinner train. In a September 2010 letter from Central States Rail Associates to the City Council, the company explained why it believes it is exempt from ADA regulations. In the letter, the company estimated that creating a wheelchair-accessible rail car could cost more than $175,000, an amount considered “excessive and unreasonable burden on our new business.”
The company also cited Section 304 (c) of the ADA, which provides specified exemptions for certain antiquated cars. (See the link in Related Media.)
Months ago, Weber said, the company purchased a side-loading train car that would be more readily transformable into being wheelchair-accessible. Moving the car to Columbia from Iowa would cost about $10,000, he said, and converting the car would cost much more than that. Installing a lift would cost between $50,000 and $150,000, he said — the wideness of the estimate depending on a number of factors.
Purchased from an estate. These cars were in a heated garage since new. They had a caretaker that kept the garage heated at all times.
Antique cars?

are antique cars with QQ license plates allowed to drive on highways?
please give a web site or something
thanks
speed limit for an antique car in PA is 25 miles per hour so I really don't think they are allowed on highways. Antiques are limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses.” Occasional transportation and similar uses is defined as one day a week.
Sorry I don't have a website

antique cars?
Jan 15, 2007 by Robin H | Posted in Chevrolet
We have a 1955 Chevy 2Dr for sale. It was my husbands first car. The VIN number on the dash is now missing and I would like to know where else,( besides the door panel) we could find the number on the frame on this vehicle. We do have the title, but can't seem to match the numbers on the title to the car.
this car didn't have the numbers on the upper dash,,it only had them on the tag that was on the door post,,that tag should still be there,,but that old car never had them up on the dash part of it,,they never started doing this until later on in the 60,s,,good luck,,if you have the door tag that's all you need for it,,hope this help,s.,,PS look around where the drivers door opens its there i bet.

In 1955 cars were registered by engine number. If the car has the original engine, you will find the # stamped on the engine. I don't believe that they had ID plates on the dash.

i dono but i would check the engine
i dont even know if ameican companys back then even put tags anywhere els

Should be a small metal tag located on the driver's door jamb. Will have the VIN located there. There may also be a tag somewhere on the firewall...but I'm not 100% sure that this may be true for 50's cars. GM did put cowl tags on 60's cars...that much I am sure of.
tommy44432 | Jan 15, 2007
the vin number is on the drivers front door pillar area. The tag on the cowl near the wiper motor is a trim tag only( color, body, trim, int color)

how can I reach street rods-hot rod and classic antique cars with my business advertisement?
Nov 10, 2006 by Peachy2 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a auto repair business. Have been in business for over 20 yrs. Looking to reach hot rod, street rod, antique and classic cars to let them know what my business has to offer.
Go where they are.
Make up a nice printed piece and take it to cruise-ins/car shows/club events.
Also see if any local car clubs sell ad space in their newsletters or allow local vendors to co-sponsor events with them.
