Cites new GAO report: Used car dealers do not receive defect notices from manufacturers
BETHESDA, Md., July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA), a national trade association representing independent automobile dealers, strongly urges Congress to pass the Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act (HR 1449) on behalf of its over 20,000 members.
"NIADA believes that all vehicle service, repair and recall information should be made available to consumers and all facilities that sell vehicles or pursue repair opportunities, and should not be restricted to just those who are affiliated with a manufacturer," said Michael R. Linn, CEO of the National Independent Automotive Dealers Association (NIADA). "The new report from the GAO makes clear why passage of the Right to Repair Act is imperative. Used car dealers and consumers who buy used cars are at the mercy of the manufacturers when it comes to finding out if a vehicle they are selling or buying has been under recall or has been repaired because of a recall. Passage of the Right to Repair Act would ensure equitable access to this type of information so all parties involved are aware of a vehicle's history."

How do I retain a automobile dealers license in Florida?
Feb 05, 2010 by | Posted in Buying & Selling
I would like to be able to go to the local auctions and buy cars & suvs. I do not work as a car saleperson, and I have no desire to become one. How do I get a dealers license in the State of Florida?
In Florida, motor vehicle dealers are licensed and regulated by the Division of Motor Vehicles under Section 320.27 Florida Statutes.
The Law
Florida law states that any person, firm partnership, or corporation that buys, sells, offers for sale, displays for sale or deals in three or more motor vehicles in any 12-month period is presumed to be a motor vehicle dealer and must have an appropriate license issued by the State.
License Types
There are six classes of licenses issued to motor vehicle dealers. They are:
Independent Dealer (VI) -- for a person dealing in used motor vehicles only. This license permits the licensee to transact business at retail or wholesale.
Franchise Dealer (VF) -- allows the licensee to sell new motor vehicles under an agreement with a manufacturer. This license also permits the licensee to sell used motor vehicles.
Service Facility (SF) -- is a dealership that performs only service as defined in s. 320.60(16), Florida Statutes, and will not or does not sell or lease motor vehicles.
Wholesale Dealer (VW) -- licensees may only buy from, sell to, and deal at wholesale with other licensed dealers.
Auctions (VA) -- are licensed to sell, on behalf of licensed dealers, through the bid process. Auctions may not sell retail.
Salvage (SD) -- allows the licensee to deal in salvage or wrecked vehicles. Any person who engages in the business of acquiring salvaged or wrecked motor vehicles for the purpose of reselling them and their parts must have a salvage dealer license. If the dealer rebuilds salvaged or wrecked vehicles, the title must be reassigned to an independent dealer for retail sale.
Application
Before going into the business of selling motor vehicles, a person must have a site approved by a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Regional Office, for the dealership location. Once the site is approved by a DMV Compliance Examiner/Officer, submit a completed application, with required documentation and fees. License applications may be obtained from any Division of Motor Vehicles' Regional Office.

"Retain" means to keep. "Obtain" means to acquire or gain possession of.
So, do you want to "KEEP" your license or do you want to "GET" a license?
If you want to buy and sell cars in the state of Florida you need a valid automotive dealers license. You get that license from the Secretary of State Office.

12. Two automobile dealers, A and B, had the same car which was listed at $18,000. Dealer A offered a $1200 rebate and would negotiate a further 8% discount after rebate. Dealer B offered an 8% discount and would negotiate a further $1200 rebate.
(a) Which dealer has the lowest price? _____________
(b) What is the lowest price? ______________

Dealer B is the lower offer because 8% of $18,000 off and then a $1200 rebate is more than 8% of $16,800.

do automobile dealers have to pay minimumwage?
Jul 03, 2010 by | Posted in Buying & Selling
i worked for one that only paid $600.00 per monyh is that legal?
No, they can pay more if they wish to. If you're in sales and not making way more than minimum wage that's your fault, maybe you should look for another profession.
