China Car Dealers Struggle as Stockpiles Rise

Chinese dealers are struggling with the rising number of unsold cars that’s threatening to deepen price cuts, according to the nation’s biggest automobile dealers’ association.

Dealerships for Honda Motor Co. (7267), Chery Automobile Co., BYD Co. (002594) and Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. (175) carried more than 45 days of inventory as of the end of April, exceeding the threshold that foreshadows debilitating price cuts, Su Hui, vice president of the auto market division at the state-backed China Automobile Dealers Association, said in an interview yesterday.

“Unsold cars are crowding dealer lots in cities from Guangzhou in the south to Xi’an to the west,” Su said in a phone interview yesterday from Beijing. “It’s like a contagious disease that will spread.”

The warning signals that vehicle deliveries reported by companies, which have risen more than analysts’ estimates for the past two months, aren’t fully translating to consumer sales. Demand was the slowest in the first four months since 1998, weighing on automakers from to Volkswagen AG (VOW), which are counting on the world’s largest auto market to offset slumping sales in Europe.

How do I get Auto Dealers to list their inventory on my Website?

I am launching a new website exclusively for auto dealers. This website is strictly for auto dealers to trade wholesale inventory between each other. To get it off the ground, I need some initial dealers with a decent amount of wholesale inventory to list their vehicles on the website. Then I can attract other dealers to buy their inventory which attracts more wholesale inventory. But I need those first 6 to 12 dealers in a regional area to get the ball rolling. What are the best ways to find these dealers? Calling them one at a time will take too long.

BTW - The website is currently free to use for the next 2 or 3 months. After that dealers will pay a small monthly fee for using it. There are no listing fees or transaction costs.

Retail is what dealers need because of floor plan the inventory cost interest rate and dealership bricks and mortar. Not to mention parts and service. Your pushing a rock up hill dealers trade cars all the time. Each State Automobile Dealers Associations are "the old boys club" Unless you grew up with these old guys forget about breaking into the business practices of car dealers. Computer Inventory dealer locator services from GM,Nissan,Ford and others are free so any expence other than the one driver two cars moved the old guys won't pay

bulid a web page and hire a tech

tell them what you can do for them and how it'll benefit them, get to know sales managers and their customers...think of it from their point of view, and you'll have your answers

What incentives do auto dealers get from car manufacturers like GM and Ford? How are these deals structured?

What incentives do auto dealers get from car manufacturers like GM and Ford? How are these deals structured? Do the manufacturers gives the dealers a percentage of each car sold? Do they give them some kind of money back guarantee or what?

There are inventory incentives, dealer-only incentives tied to volume and other spiffs. Dealers don't get a percentage from the manu except under employee pricing programs.

Simple research will provide current incentives. See kbb.com

How much do dealers save at those huge auto auctions?

How much below blue book value (on average) do used vehicles go for at those huge dealer auctions? I'm thinking about buying some land and starting a new career as an used auto dealer.. Any insight from dealers would be appreciated!

The old adage you get what you pay for?? Same is true at auto auctions. Auto auctions for dealers are just like buying a car anywhere. I love when a customer tells me they "know someone in the business" that will take them to auction and tell them they should go they will probably get a great deal ;)

Fact of the matter is many buyers from the dealer ships are guys that have been on the biz 20+ years. Say you find the elusive "cream puff" that grandma kept in the garage and is 5 years old and only has 10k miles. The price gets bid way up and it becomes a case of who is going to sell it for the least amount of profit. A car like this more than likely would run like a champ. Being in Florida if we had price may be above KBB on the lot as this is a cream puff, from Florida and it commands a premium due to low miles.

Many of the cars are junk we know we are shipping to auction when get as trade in's. Smaller lots ( buy here pay here) shine em up, throw them on the lot and bad credit people pay more than they should due to bad credit and they can't get financed from a major dealer. When the car breaks down, they stop paying and credit gets worse.

In between ones, you may purchase and spend 1500-2000 to get lot ready ( repairs, cleaning, tires, painting etc.) than it depreciates on your lot every day. You seldom get a lot ready car at a dealer auction.

It is a tough business for someone with no experience at all ( but not impossible). If you have the capital, I would see if I could like find a retiree that was in the business that could guide you for a while to help you learn what you are doing. There are locally some decent small dealer ships that strictly sell used and have a fantastic reputation. That would be your best bet as you will have to get a great reputation to compete with the big guns. Good Luck.

at auction a 3 to 5000 dollar car could got for 500 to 1000 dollars. there is a big markup on the used car market. But the business is at the bottom of the food chain, as there needs to be government regulations on the entire industry. deception and lies are what that that industry is made of.

First it depends on which State you are in. Different dealer laws. Also, my suggestion would be to work for a used dealer first, there is a lot more than doing well at the auction. BTW, I see the new comers get skined (at auctions) by the guys who have 'paid their dues'.

Do auto dealers have to title/register their vehicles in the lot?

I was just curious as to whether or not auto dealers must title or register the vehicles that they sell on the lot. If so, how long do they have to do so?
It was meant to say "used auto dealers" instead.. Not brand new vehicles.

not til they sell them
