Survey: More problems, but more love, for VW and Ford
13.07.11
Never mind those rattles and such, we love our cars. That's more or less what owners of Fords and Volkswagens told surveyors from Strategic Vision, which listed VW No. 1 and Ford No. 2 in overall satisfaction in their owner survey.
The company said the results show that a few problems --- if they are minor and quickly fixed by the dealers -- are less important than how owners feel about their vehicles in total.
In the most recent best-known quality survey -- J.D. Power and Associates' Initial Quality Survey that tallies owner-reported problems the first 90 days of ownership -- Ford had tumbled from the top five to 23rd because of complaints about its electronics and cumbersome advanced-technology controls.
Perversely, such problems can signal good things, notes veteran industry observer Charlie Vogelheim, an executive editor at researcher IntelliChoice. "There are a lot of people out there not used to driving Fords," he says. They are new to the company because they were attracted by its growing reputation for good quality and high-tech.
NATICK, MASS. (07/13/2011)(readMedia)-- U.S. sales of Jeep's iconic Wrangler surpassed the Ford Explorer in June and interest is on the increase worldwide, meaning Jeep may soon have to worry about demand outpacing supply, according to a report by the Toledo Blade. Luckily for Massachusetts Jeep fans, local Jeep dealers like Brigham-Gill Chrysler Jeep Dodge still have a ready supply of Jeep Wranglers on hand.
U.S. sales of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler are up 15 percent year-to-date compared with the same period in 2010, which includes a 27-percent increase in June sales. Those impressive numbers will likely soon be complimented internationally as the Wrangler benefits from the recent refranchising of Jeep dealers in Europe, the land that helped make the name Jeep synonymous with rugged dependability during World War II.
"Massachusetts drivers have loved the Jeep Wrangler for a long time now, and the rest of the world is about to catch on," said Richard Gill, owner of Brigham-Gill Chrysler Jeep Dodge, a Greater Boston Jeep dealer. "That is going to place a lot of pressure on the Toledo, Ohio assembly line that produces the Wrangler, but I'm sure Jeep will come up with ways to increase capacity."
There is a vehicle I like at dealer (A) and got a price from them. Their price is high. I went to dealer (B) and got a price from them which was significantly cheaper. If I want to buy the vehicle from dealer (B) b/c they have the lowest price. Now does dealer (A) have to release that vehicle to dealer (B) or can they reject dealer (B)'s request?
No you arent understanding quite clearly. This vehicle is at dealers (A) lot and I want to buy it from dealer (B) because he can give me a cheaper price. Does dealer (A) have to give dealer (B) the car so he can sell it to me or can they refuse to trade the vehicle to dealer (B). That is my question.
No Dealer A has no obligation to send the car to Dealer B.
What you're talking is a "dealer trade," where dealers trade with other dealers for cars/trucks.
eaglefox200 | Apr 18, 2007
Just buy the damn car at whatever price you feel happy about.
Ted | Apr 18, 2007
If dealer B says they can sell it to you, then they can sell it to you. Just make sure you know all the fine print like fees and taxes.
grumpy | Apr 18, 2007
I've been in your same situation. The answer is "NO".....Dealer A does NOT have to release the car, and if they think they have a possible pending sale on it, they will not. After sufficient time passes, dealer A will probably determine that you are not coming back.

Does Ford Dealers Provide Police Vehicle Equipment Installation?

Does Ford Dealers Provide Police Vehicle Equipment Installation?
Hello,
Im a owner of a Ford 04 Crown Victoria (Regular)
I would like to know if the Ford dealers provide this service. And if it does, what is the requirements for the installation process?
Thank You, Steven.
Nope.. Engine tuning and such are governed by federal law so there would be no legal way for a Ford dealer to knowingly do this (besides the police issue uses a slightly different PCM than the non-police version.)
The suspension and such are readily available to be done at cost but there is no reason as most parts are the same ones available currently on civilian versions of the CV.
We can sell you the wiring and all also, but without a need, there is no use. other than tunign and I think a handling package.. most CVPI parts are pretty much same grade or actually loosing accessories over a regular CV (Most police cars don't come with cruise control)
and about the speed limiter..news to me... Ford limits these cars due to driveline vibration above a certain point...

Usually the government for the area the cars are dispatched for (city, state, fed government) get the vehicles with certain features disabled (such as electronic speed limiter) and then install the goodies themselves.

When you say "Police Vehicle Equipment" are you talking what makes a crown vic a police interceptor? If so than the answer is no. Police Interceptors are not for sale to the public from Ford. Installation of interceptor power train components violate EPA and USDOT regulations and federal laws.
Dealers can install suspension and electrical options along with the typical police options such as push bars, gun racks, radios, rear seat divider, lights, etc. Many of dealerships do this for there local PDs.
There are many differences between a Crown Vic and it's brother the Police Interceptor. If you want a look alike than a dealer can help, if you want a Police Interceptor, buy one at auction.
Some states do have laws restricting dealers from repairing PI's with PI parts if they are not government owned. so if the transmission goes out, it will be rebuilt to non-interceptor specs.

yes only if your an agency, officer or private investigator. otherwise you can buy and install cop equip only after the car has been sold from the agency. In other words if its used buy used equip from auctions, or ebay and install it yourself. also you say its just a reg crown vic only p71 (vin numbers 5-6-7) had the high output alternators, wiring packages etc for all those accessories. easiest way to do what you want is to sell your crown vic and buy one off ebay that already has all the equip you want. that way you get Hd cooling system, HD brakes, HD suspension, HD alternator, engine cooler, trans cooler wiring etc

Will Dodge dealers Kill the Challenger the way the Ford dealers killed the Last Ford Thunderbird?
Feb 06, 2008 by geiniusbobiknow | Posted in Other - Cars & Transportation
Rumor has it that the Chrysler Dodge Dealers are going to demand $5000.00 over the sticker for the new Challengers. I remember when the last Thunderbirds came out and I went to numerous Ford dealers and they wanted way, way more than the sticker. So I talked to other potential Buyers and the consensus was, "They're not building cars for us they don't want us to hve them, they are bldg. them for rich people. Well You see what happened to the t-Bird and look where Ford is now!
I think that the people who can afford it and want one badly enough to get one of the limited edition 2008 model (there are only 6400 for the U.S. and part of an 800 car series for Canada) that they will easily pay at least $5000 over sticker, and probably even more that $10000 over sticker just to get a car with a limited edition dash plaque. AT LEAST!!! Once the 2009s come out though, and they aren't limited edition any more, i think that they'll sell like any other car with normal mark-up, as there will be more of them than the 2008s, and they do not have limited edition dash-plaques.

From all that I have read concerning this, I would agree with you and it is sad that they can do this.
They would have more success if they opened up the market to everyone and stop trying to rape the middle class people because many people would be willing to buy this vehicle.
UCANTCME | Feb 06, 2008
I'll let you in on a little secret~ dealers do that to every single car out there. (especially trucks) Ford is in better shape than Chrysler. Ford is still Ford where as Chrysler is owned by some management firm. The Thunderbird stopped production because no true Thunderbird fan wants one that only comes in Automatic with a normal V8. Had they used the T56 6 speed and the lightning's supercharged 5.4 liter Triton V8~ that car would still be selling.
lkotajarvi | Feb 06, 2008
The Dodge dealers are going to be greedy that is for sure. I would guess the first year anyone will be VERY lucky to only have to go $5000 over. Most cars I would say will be sold for $10k over sticker. The big difference in the Thunderbird and the new Challenger is the new Challenger is a performance car to go along with the looks of the original 1970 design and style. I would say the first couple of years it will be hard, if not impossible t to get one at sticker. However keep in mind the first batch, the approx $40k SRT Challenger will be 6400 cars. Next year the 09 Challenger will be available in the R/T version with a 6 speed manual trans. The R/T is rumored to be priced in line with the Mustang GT. So in 2009, If Dodge can produce as many Challengers (a base 6 cyl, the R/T and the limited production SRT's) as Ford does the Mustang. Everyone that wants a Challenger should be able to find one at sticker or less!!

Do all Ford Dealers use the same database to track maintenance on a car?
Jun 24, 2009 by quepasameng | Posted in Ford
Could i call a ford here in Miami and ask if it has been maintained up where i bought it in Tampa? Thanks
Yes, go to an Authorized Ford Dealership & check your Vin # with the Service Manager or Asst Manager. They can "usually" pull up the full service history if the vehicle has been maintained through Ford Dealerships. They can also give you any Recall or Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) for your vehicle. Hope this Helps.
