The perfect time to buy a car

Auto dealers are always saying that this is the best time to buy a car and this Fourth of July weekend, traditionally a major weekend for automotive sales, they are most likely right.

Incentives, a robust inventory and the reduction of both state sales tax and vehicle registration fees are creating a perfect storm for a great weekend of sales.

And because of that, some customers who purchased a new car in the past few years, including during the Cash for Clunkers program, might be able to purchase a new car now and keep their payments the same.

“We’ve run across a lot of situations where that is true,” said Randy Haddock, general manager of Vista Ford in Oxnard. “People have been pleasantly surprised over what we’ve been able to offer them on their trade-in.”

With late-model used vehicles in high demand, Darrell Coletto, president of First Automotive Group in Simi Valley, said customers are getting top dollar for their trade-ins. “We’re buying cars with both hands,” he said.

BSM Which Car - June 2011 Edition 2 - Verna, Etios Liva, Fabia

, Via email

The car that fits most of your needs is the new Hyundai Verna. The 1.4 CRDi spec is what you should be looking at, for its combination of fuel efficiency and a pretty lively motor. It is a spacious car, with generous legroom at the rear, and the overall quality of materials used in the interiors is also very good. Ride quality is good, though not on a par with the likes of the Volkswagen Vento. On the whole, we think the Verna is the car for you — although, to be realistic, you will not see 20 kpl in city conditions, and even out on the highway, the figure will be of the order of about 18 kpl with careful driving!

ALL ROUNDER

I am looking at buying a hatchback with the following features: a refined motor, easy gear shifts, best-in-class ride quality, a powerful AC unit and some of the latest features too. Attractive looks, good ground clearance and good ride quality and interior space are, needless to say, a must. Of the Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20, Hyundai i10, Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, Toyota Etios, Chevrolet Beat and Mahindra Verito, which should I buy? Source: Business Standard

What honda dealers still have 2006 honda pilots with clearance prices?

Most Honda dealers have gotten rid of all their 06 inventory. I have looked for some 06 Ridgelines with little luck. If there are any 06 Pilots remaining your local dealer may be able to locate them for you. And, contrary to the popular post, they were running some pretty good deals on Pilots, below invoice price. I don't think it was specifically called "clearance" but it's the same thing.

By the way, good choice. We own an 06 Pilot. Best vehicle ever owned.

None..honda DOES not clearance there vehicles

I just bought an 07 in Portland OR, the dealer told me that there werent many 06's left in Oregon. But you could try www.wilsonvillehonda.com... they have been playing radio ads claiming they need to get rid of all 06's in stock...

email these guys, they should be able to answer your questions! no, I don't work for them, just found the site and wanted to let you know. they have live online assistance....

Does Honda offer any dealer bonuses or incenitives?

I'm looking to buy a '07 Honda Civic LX Sedan sometime soon, but it'll be the most expensive car I've ever purchased.

I just want to know if Honda offers any dealer bonuses or incentives at the end of the year that'll significantly affect the price. I heard the Civics sell well, so it might be harder to negotiate based on that.

So, should I wait until the end of September? Or, is waiting until the end of August good enough for such a model? Does Honda do clearances as zealously as GM?

Honda kinda has an advantage when it comes to this. Most Honda products sell-out without the need to place incentives on them. The Civic is one car that needs no incentives to sell it.

Usually consumers can expect to get the $595.00 destination charge waived for a discount. But, by waiting til the end of September, it may be too late. The '08's will be arriving in mid-September which means most dealers are down to a handfull of '07's.

Couple of things to remember: Honda has NEVER offered a consumer rebate or 0% financing.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll love the Civic!

Unlike domestic cars, Honda does not have a problem selling cars. From what I've heard they don't offer many incentives but you should check with your local dealer to find out what might be available in your area. Popular models like Civis do more often than not sell for pretty close to MSRP so it makes it a little diffivcult to negotiate on the sticker price.

One sugestion is to see if your local Honda dealership has a sales person who specializes in internet sales, basicly they sell you the car at cost plus a set fee(maybe $200) so you get the car for what the dealership pays for it plus $200 as apposed to from a salesman who might try to make $1,000 per car.

No, they offer great financing rates though, if you are looking for something cheaper consider a 2007 Hyundai Elantra.

Is it better to buy a 2010 Honda Accord or wait for the 2011 model ?

It says the 2011 model would be on sale from August 15th, and lots of dealers seems to have a clearance plan to blow the old model.

I am wondering which model might be a good choice in this time ? I would probably pay cash as my credit history is less than 2 years.

Any idea is well appreciated,
Thanks!

Unless there is some design change to the 2011 that you just have to have, buy the 2010. Dealers are holding sales, using/offering incentives, and making deals as it is the end of the model year and they must move the inventory. Hence, you'll likely get a better deal out of a cash deal on a 2010 than a 2011. Get at least an LX trim level or better, and try to determine how long the car has been on the lot. (Check the sticker). Older stock is costing the dealer money and they will be even more eager to deal on those first. Use an an argument that the car is already 1 year old and has depreciated. (That applies even if its still untagged and new). You might also see if they have a demo on sale at a much reduced price. It usually has some miles on it, and is considered a used car when sold, but it would come with full warranty.

Wait For 2011 Better

see what kind of deal you can get on the 2010 and if the deal is acceptable to you buy it if not wait for the 2011

I would go with the 2010. It will be substantially cheaper and the 2011 is essentially an unchanged car. They revised the car is 2008 so it will probably be a few years before it is completely revised again.

Good deal on Honda Fit 2010?

Honda has it's clearance now and we are thinking about buying new Honda Fit 2010. I'll have to negotiate with dealers and get the best price possible, since we can barely afford it even with a low financing. What would be a bottom price for Sport automatic model? Invoice price is $18,010. Thank you.

How or what maybe damaged when your car get stuck on a 6 in concrete barrier?

I have a 09 Honda civic si with about 5 inches of ground clearance. Last night for some stupid reason maybe because of the snow I turned into a unfamiliar driveway and the right tire drove upon a concrete barrier and the car got stuff. Initially I though it was a pot hole from hell. You could hear the under carriage scraping horribly against the concrete. The left side was still on the road. I had to back up get get un-stuck same horrific scraping. When I drove home the car felt OK. I am going to the dealer on Monday for an inspection to see what I broke.

Most likely the lower control arm took the brunt of the impact. Depending on what angle
you hit it at, it may or may not have been bent or damaged. They'll probably give it a visual
inspection then suggest or just go ahead and do a front end alignment. If you don't feel
anything shaking at any speeds, you may be ok. Make sure you are called before any
repairs are made and that you are well aware of the charges the dealer will charge you for
such an inspection.

Good Luck with the outcome
