BMW Sees Potential Korean Electric-Car Market
24.05.12
While South Korea’s auto market is dominated by local players, particularly Hyundai Motor Group, Germany’s BMW has seen a healthy jump in its share of the imported passenger car market to 26% last year from 18% three years earlier. BMW Group Korea attributes some of that surge to the effect of South Korea’s free-trade agreement with the European Union, which took effect last year and lowered tariffs on imports from the EU. BMW’s vehicle sales rose 19% to 11,032 units in the January-April period from a year earlier. The German luxury car maker is hoping to replicate that success in the nascent electric car market with the introduction of two pure electric models – the i3 and the i8 – in 2014 following their global launch in 2013. BMW will be entering the local electric car market around the same time as Hyundai, which plans to sell an Elantra-sized compact electric car from 2014. Kia Motors aims to introduce an electric version of its Ray mini car in 2013, depending on Korea’s progress in building charging stations for electric vehicles.

Will my local BMW dealer add aftermarket parts?
Jul 10, 2010 by manbob | Posted in BMW
I want to: install a VF Supercharger, add paddle shifters, carbon hood, Sparco steering wheel, XXR rims, widebody kit, and Sparco seats. I also want to have the speed limiter removed. This is all for an E46 M3. Also, my car is manual, will I even be able to install paddle shifters? And if the dealer can't do it, where do you suppose could? I live in Knoxville, TN.
Oh shit...
No you cannot add paddle shifters.
Yes they can install the hood, steering wheel, and rims. All for AT LEAST $100 an hour. They will not install a body kit, you'd need a proffesional body shop to do that.
They can install a supercharger, but not tune it. If they installed it w/o tuning it, you'd probably blow your engine up in under 10 miles due to it running extraordinarily lean. A custom tuning shop would charge around $3000 for install + tune.
The seats are a PITA, but if you can turn a wrench you can DIY.
The rims can be done by any wheel shop, easy to do.
I can tell by the questions you're asking that you're probably young, therefore an inexperienced driver. Every new-ish driver wants more power, myself included. But in all honesty, 99% of drivers cannot outperform their car on the streets, there's no reason to drop $10k into mods when it'll just make your car too much to handle..

Where do you service your BMW, at the dealer or local garage?
Dec 15, 2007 by mikey212 | Posted in BMW
well, if your bmw is sorta new. maybe 04-now, then dealers are the best. they know what they're doing and they're professionals with the cars. local garages are for the more cheaper cars like hondas and toyotas and not to be racist but its usually mexicans who didnt graduate high school who work there so yeah. they wont know what they're doing. especially to something like a bmw

Is it still under warranty if so you have no choice, if not then it all depends who you trust the most the dealer or the local mechanic same with every car.

I do all my own servicing, it's all part of the trip.
itsmeflash | Dec 15, 2007
well if your a tight wad you go to the local garage you have experience with ALL cars... not specific data and info for your bmw
im guessing your not a tight was because you own a bmw...
if you have a newer one (as i do) when you start your car it tells you when you need to service your car.. and only the dealer can reset that service mileage warning
so if you want to pamper your bimmer and prolong her life then definitely go to the dealer...
it may be more expensive but they know what there doing and if you sell it will be more appealing to the buyer to see you have it serviced on time at the place of purchase. it gives them piece of mind

Why are some BMW's certified and others are not?
Nov 08, 2009 by 28wingnut | Posted in BMW
Just visited the local BMW dealer for a test drive and found several used cars with few miles (<30K). Some of the cars were certified pre-owned and others were not. Sales person said it was because the techs did not have time to certify all cars, but I smell a rat. Anyone shed more light on that may be really going on?
CPO cars also are typically newer and low miles. It costs money to do all the inspections and fix it up to be CPO which leads to a higher sticker price. Depending on its condition it might be cheaper for the dealer to just sell it As Is instead of paying to fix it and selling it as a CPO. This doesn't mean its a bad car its just got a little more wear and tear and like any used car you should also make sure its properly checked out by someone other than the dealer before you buy.

BMW cpo cars have been inspected to makes sure all defects are repaired before you get them, and carry an extended factory warranty. Some of the things done in a cpo inspection include returning all non-factory items to stock, including tires and wipers. And making sure all maintenance is up to date. As well as fixing any cosmetic flaws. If looking into the purchase of a used BMW I personally wouldn't buy one that was not a certified pre-owned car. If you have any doubt that they are done right, and everything gets checked, the BMW dealer I worked for got fined $10,000 by BMW because a 750i on our lot had a non-original spare tire in the trunk. They do look at these things.

1 cpo is a 100+ point check, with all defects being noted/fixed, fluids up, wear replaced - within a $ margin. (check #'s vary depending on make)
#2 cpo requires clean service history at certified brand dealer.
#3 cpo has a max mileage allowance.

rippoff charges by bmw dealer, help?
Feb 25, 2009 by p | Posted in BMW
i bought this 2003 bmw 320d se in december 2008, was driving from last 2 months, never had any problem, last week it start showing that inspection is due, i booked an appointment with a local bmw dealer, took my car there on last wednesday(18/02), after inspection they told me that these following things needs repair: front wiper, front wishbone bushes split, rear diff bush split, OIL LEAK SUSPECT HEAD GASKET AND FOUND OIL IN INTER COOLER REQ FURTHER INVESTIGATION, vibration damper worn.
they gave me an estimate of more than £2000. I told them to do the service, they did the service, changed the oil, charged me £505.
10 Min's after leaving the dealer smoke start coming out of the exhaust and from the engine as well, and I was loosing my fuel as well. Called dealer next day, they gave me another appointment for
this tuesday(24/02), after inspection they told me that the turbo is gone and there is a fuel leak and gave me another estimate of more than £4000.
I told them that there was no smoke coming out of the car and there was no fuel leak before i took my car to them for service, but they are saying that they told me that these things needs repair (listed in the beginning), now they are doing investigation for oil leak since yesterday, I want to complaint about them, coz this is wrong, please help me
I am unaware of the agencies in the UK (in certain states in the U.S. and in Canada there are agencies you can turn to relative to unfair practices...but quite frankly tracing the issues behind the problemns you are having will likely be difficult and because the car is older - to pin the fault on poor dealership work or on a failed part (and BMW's are famous for failing - their dependability is quite low on the scale) may really be challenging.
Ist of all I am surprised you are still taking your BMW to a dealership for service work.
BMW's are right at the top of the scale in terms of cost of repairs and servicing and the dealership has absolutely highest rates.
You should search out a decent performance shop (Euro or german cars - their speciality) and have them give your car a once -over to get independent views.
I am not sure I would continue to leave my car with the dealership.
Get on an owner's forum for BMW's owners in the UK, has to be a lot of forums and link with some othe owners to determine best place for servicing - better understanding of what your servicing problems may be BEFORE you go to have it serviced....lots of long time - good tech types on these forums and they are good sources of information...maybe here:
