What is the best place to buy a car? (please help)?

I never bought a car and have very little to spend. I just want something preferably within the last 10 years that doesnt have high mileage and isnt a stupid looking car like the ford taurus or one of those chrisler with the huge hood. i been using craigslist for months but everything that goes on there it taken before i get in contact with the seller. and whats not taken is overpriced. and then when i look in the local car paper most of the cars from the dealership are sold "as is" so i wouldnt trust buying a $1000 car if it has $3000 of work to be done on it, and of course i wouldnt know until after i bought it. and then i go on these sites like www.seizecars.com and they ask for money on ur credit card to get in to see where these places are where you get the extra cheap new cars. which to me sounds like some kind of scam. plus im canadian so i how can i buy a car in USA. so i dont know anymore about anything and im extremely frustrated....

trying saving more money, if you have decent credit and not a lot of debt trying buying a new car, or used with low miles, you can get a lot of good deals if you check car dealers, you could pay as little as 200 to 250 a month depending on what you can afford, ask the sales person everything about the car you like not the car that their trying to show you, or sell you find the make and model and year you want then search for the cheapest prices of the car, if buying used check the history of the car, I'm talking from all the dumbbell buys i made, some dealers have good body shops unless you know the history, a car could be crashed and fixed in two days for all you know

I look for auctions and reposessions at banks and credit unions. I've purchased several good cars that way.

If I were to buy a new car, should I take it to the dealer for maintenance or to a local shop?

Just wondering bcuz taking your car to the dealer is xpensive and some people say its better bcuz a local shop uses cheap oil and material than the dealer???

Ther is nothing wrong with taking it to a good reputable shop. If you want a certain type of oil you can request it. Or you can buy your oil and give it to them to install and knock it off your bill.

if you mean new as in brand new off of the lot no miles type of thing most manufactures and dealers of cars these days offer work done on them for so long such as their vehicle warranty and some are offering free oil changes etc.. for so long so check into that. and the thing about local shops is you have to find one you can trust, yes there are bad ones but there are also good ones. a dealer will screw you over sometimes just like a small shop will at times. and actually where i live the dealer prices arent much higher than the local shop prices so i have been taking my things to the dealer because their work is usually warrantied.

only use a genuine licensed repairer ( certified by the car maker )
for the best possible result, as they will only use genuine parts, and they have been trained by the factory who made your car.
They don't have to be the seller of your car. Shop around for the best price (just ask for a quote before committing to them).

Don't let that fool you. They don't use better material, they use the same, if not worse material at a dealership. The only time you should ever go to a dealership is if you have some type of deal (i.e. a coupon for a free oil change) or if it is under warranty. Other than that, don't ever do it. You will get ripped off...

True local shop use cheap stuff! I love the dealership, good luck!

If you negotiate for a new car, the cost of maintenance and warranty should be a talking point.
Usually a car has warranty (that means repairs are free) for the first 36,000 miles for almost everything, other then accidents and dents.
To maintain that warranty, you have to abide by the rules of the car company.
I personally avoid bringing my cars to any shops. Once you start bringing your car in, they make sure, something will give soon and have you bring it back.
Repair shops of huge car dealers usually have one guy, who knows his job and 50 low paid nitwits, who do the "repairs". I go to smaller shops, if I have to.
My Mini Van had one belt change ($75,00), the original spark plugs and the third set of cheap tires at 152,000 miles. No problem there. My BMW has 120,000 miles and one brake repair, third set tires, that's it (original spark plugs too).
I do oil changes every 25,000 miles myself.

End of month is a great time to BUY your new car, but it is NOT the best time to make your first dealership visit. Salesmen do try harder to make sales at the end of the month, which is about the last five days of the calendar month.

In addition to the end of the month, there are better and worse times of the year to buy. Best time of the year to buy is the end of December, in most dealerships. Dealerships try to make specific quotas for end of month AND end of calendar year, and it is not a popular time to buy, so sales can slump seriously and they will try harder to make a sale, which means a better bargain. If you shy away from buying in the winter because of bad weather, think again: bad weather is when you WANT to be in the car, testing it’s foul weather capabilities.

Other good times of year to buy are end of August and end of September because the old models are taking up space on the dealership property, and they want to make room for the new models to come in. If your heart is not set on a brand new model, this is an excellent time to buy a perfectly good new car that happens to have been manufactured a few months earlier.

There is a very important BUT to this end of month advice: Do NOT make your very first visit to the dealership at the end of the month. Go to the dealership at the beginning or middle of the month, test drive the cars, get some info, then go home and give yourself two to three weeks to get the best financing. THEN go back at month's end armed with full information and a buying plan. Give yourself a day or two extra in case the first dealership doesn't work out and you need to go to another one. This is a big purchase, don't try to do it all in an afternoon!

Get an internet price. ALL dealers can sell you the same car for the same price nationwide. But go prepared , get prices from out of the area dealers first and then buy near home, That way you get the same price and are closer to have service work done,

I race at my local track in the hornet class witch is a 4 cyl stock so wahts the fastest 4cyl car thats cheap?

i raced a 93 ford escort and her 88hp and all just was not cutting it with the toyota celicas and one fast ass integra. So i need a new car to compete this year so whats the fastest 4cyl car out there stock that you can find cheap like 800 or less
rules cant be turbo or a 2 seater

Honda Civic?
Daihatsu Charade?
Mazda MX-3?
Mazda Protege (don't think the old ones were as quick as the new ones)?
240SX? (Good luck finding one that cheap...it would have to be beat to crap)
You know, I don't think you're going to find something for 800 bucks that would compete STOCK, unless you can go turbo (like a Turbo-4 mustang) or 2 seat (Miata)...and even then you probably wouldn't find one for 800 bucks.

Where is the cheapest place to buy new car tyres?

I need to buy new car tyres and I'm unsure where I can get the cheapest deal. Am I better buying online, from a national chain, or from a local garage?
Forgot to mention I'm in the UK.

Hi

Try Blackcircles.com

I've used it twice recently and defnitely the cheapest and a great service.

It points you to your local dealer.
