How long does it take to sell a car via autotrader?
Jul 07, 2009 by Elisha Tamsen | Posted in Buying & Selling
I have a car I need to sell within 2 weeks because my insurance runs out.
My main concern is that if I can't sell I am stuck with it.
Presuming I list it at a reasonable price, how quickly do car buyers usually act on adverts placed on autotrader?
Its a Ford Ka I am hoping to sell for £200 - its probably worth around £250-£300
If you have to sell it quickly, then definitely go with eBay, although you will not get top dollar for it. You can set the timeline for the auction, and if your reserve price is low enough it will sell...
Otherwise, on autotrader you could be looking at weeks or months to get it sold.
You can also check with local dealers, as some will consider buying it from you, especially if you buy a vehicle from them.

1 day if the price is too low to never if it is way too high. There is no answer to your question it is like asking how long is a piece of string.
Try ebay classifieds instead - cheaper and you can amend the price if it is not selling at no extra charge

At £200, unless it has no MOT or tax, it should sell pretty quickly.
At that price, it's worth parking it with a 'for sale' sign in the window.

I have sold my last 2 low priced cars with a for sale sign in the window. Put details in side window, put For Sale and Price with ONO, in front and rear windows in large print. Good luck.

It all depends on "the market", your price and the prices of other cars.
Ive found it to be almost useless at selling a car, even when my price was very good.
When I was a car dealer, I found autotrader to be a waste of money. I might sell one car out of 10 I advertised with them directly from the ad.
I did much better sitting my car on the side of a busy road with shoe polish on the window and a low price.
Autotrader is in the business of selling ads.
Unless your car is priced below wholesale, chances are not great you will sell it within 2 weeks. Possible, but not great.
Take it by multiple car dealers that sell cars like yours and get offers. Then price your car at a little above that.
I have no idea what a £ is.

Is autotrader best place to list car for sale?
Feb 05, 2010 by Erica | Posted in Buying & Selling
I am looking to sale my 2007 Nissan Altima for the payoff amount (about $12500) or best offer. I am trying to figure out the best place to list. I have heard of autotrader and I know a dealership won't give me what it is worth, so I am curious for helpful answers.
I personally think it is, however, it is completely your decision/.

ya it's the best

I believe the numbers back it up as the most visited site for car sales.
eBay is also a good place to sell a car.
But it'll be difficult to sell a car with a lien on it unless you're willing to sell it for $9000 or something. You would have pay the rest.
PETER GRIFFIN | Feb 05, 2010
I would list it on Craigslist first. It's free and is very active. AutoTrader is the most widely used. It's not cheap but with a good photo and a well written ad you should sell it.

if i sell my Civic 2001 via autotrader or similar sites, can i be a private person?
Dec 11, 2007 by Asdasdas F | Posted in Honda
i had a look at autotrader.co.uk and all sellers seem to be businesses (dealers). if i place my ad as private will i sell successfully or it is better to go thru a dealer?
if i use a car dealer, will i get cash upfront or will i need to wait until they sell my car to get my money?
You can sell as a private individual, people contact you, come and see the car, and if they like it they pay you for it.
It's just like advertising anything in the local paper.
The dealers are advertising cars that have been sold to them, so you don't advertise your car through a dealer.
