Car Sales Rise in India

MUMBAI—India’s top car makers posted higher March auto sales as customers bought in anticipation of this month’s price increases and as demand for diesel vehicles continued to grow.

Several auto makers have recently increased vehicle prices after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on March 16 raised the base excise tax on most Indian-made goods, including automobiles, to 12% from 10%.

Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. gained for a third straight month, touching 125,952 vehicles, up 3% from a year earlier. Local sales for India’s biggest car maker by sales increased 2% to 112,724 units and exports jumped 15% to 13,228 vehicles.

It was the auto maker’s best-ever monthly sales performance, thanks to demand for models such as the Ritz and Swift hatchbacks and the Swift DZire sedan, which are also available in diesel variants. Sales of gasoline cars such as the Alto and WagonR fell.

Consumer preference is shifting toward diesel vehicles as prices of the fuel are regulated by the government, making it cheaper than gasoline. Overall demand has been hit by rising interest rates and fuel prices.

Chrysler Poised to Lead US Auto Sales Gains as Gas Rises: Cars

Heidi Vouri got a new job 35 miles from home and commuting in a 14-year-old gas guzzler doesn’t cut it with fuel prices rising. Her solution: Buy a new car.

“I’m definitely shopping for some gas mileage,” said Vouri, 23, who lives near Indianapolis and started work as a private investigator in December. To replace the 1998 GMC Jimmy she drove through college, she has set her sights on a 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback, which is rated to deliver as much as 30 mpg in combined city and highway driving.

Her experience shows that rising gas prices can help spur demand for new vehicles. Job gains and buyers who put off car purchases during the recession are driving the fastest three- month auto-sales pace in four years, even as a gallon of gasoline became 20 percent more expensive. Analysts are boosting 2012 industry sales estimates and automakers are increasing production.

Light-vehicle sales in March, set for release tomorrow, may have run at a 14.5 million seasonally adjusted annual rate, the average estimate of 16 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. That would exceed the 13.1 million pace from a year earlier and set an average rate of 14.6 million for the first quarter, ahead of analysts’ estimates for full-year deliveries. Small-car sales were especially strong.

car sales?

Just need peoples opinon to settle a dispute. Do you think in the next 10 years more of the performace and horsepower based car companies will either go out of bussiness because a loss in revenue trying to compete with other more fuel and enviromentally efficient car companies or do you think they will try to match them by creating thier own more "efficiant" cars?
We are talking about companies like nissan and BMW vs toyota, honda and prius.

I think it will be somewhere in the middle. Fuel economy is definitely on everyones mind and I think the auto industry is responding to consumer demand. However, I think some of your bigger "high performance" cars will be scaled down a little but still trying to preserve their performance abilities.

What do car sales people think about customers in general?

I asked earlier what people thought about you, now this is your chance to return the favor. Car sales people only need to reply please.

As a former car salesman(6 months) I can tell you that they think of customers in two categories. Boges and citizens.
Boges are people with bad credit and citizens are people with good credit.
Also, If you think car salesman lie, you should hear the customers. A customer will tell you ANYTHING to get into a car. And then you run their credit report and find out they are full of it.
The old joke goes...How do you tell when a customer is lying? Answer... When they open their mouth.

Another classic.." I'd like my payment to be $200.00 to $250.00 per month". Yeah right! If you have a serious down payment/trade in and if you have great credit.
Most people got out of the dealership with $350.00 to $550.00 as a monthly payment.

That they're stupid walking wallets with feet.

some are great people, others are the worst people........

How do you negotiate with used car sales associates and with individuals selling preowned cars?

I'm going to buy a used car soon. How do you negotiate with a used car sales associate for the best price? And how do you negotiate with an individual that's selling his/her used car? Thanks.

Have an idea what the car is worth first so you know if the selling price is in the ballpark. Don't fall in love with that particular car; there are thousands and thousands of used cars out there. Get a carfax report if you can and be prepared to walk away immediately if you can't come to an agreement or if the seller balks about having your mechanic check it out.

Would you buy a car from a female sales person?

I have been offered a job at Mercedes Benz UK as a sales executive and will start next week.
I am 31 years old and female. I am wondering if i will be up against people not wanting to buy from me because i am female?
Also any tips on good car sales techniques?
Thanks everyone!

Why not? but don't trust anyone when it comes to Cars .
