Chrysler brings back the sizzling SRT Viper

DETROIT — The SRT Viper is Chrysler's roar, a comeback car for a comeback company.

The 2013 Viper, introduced at the New York Auto Show this week, is the fifth generation of the iconic two-seater, which first went on sale as the Dodge Viper in 1992. More important, it's the first Viper since Chrysler shut down production of the sports car in 2010. At that time, the company was emerging from bankruptcy protection and needed to focus on improving high volume, bread-and-butter products like the Sebring sedan and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Ralph Gilles, the president and CEO of Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology team — or SRT — said uncertainty about the Viper's future was "gut-wrenching." The company decided to revive the Viper as its fortunes changed and sales rose. Chrysler earned $183 million last year, its first annual profit since 1997.

"The launch of the 2013 Viper proves that we simply would not let the performance icon of the Chrysler Group die,"

Ford to expand Chinese factories again

Ford will expand its biggest factory complex in China to meet growing demand in the world's largest car market.

The $600 million expansion will include a new assembly line, body shop and paint shop at its Chongqing site in southwestern China, Ford said Thursday. Chongqing is the company's largest manufacturing operation outside of the Detroit area.

Ford is trying to catch up with rivals who have been in China longer and command a bigger share of sales. The expansion will give the automaker the ability to make 350,000 more vehicles per year, increasing its total to 950,000 by 2014. That will help Ford's goal of tripling the cars in its Chinese lineup to 15 over the next three years.

Ford opened a new vehicle assembly plant Chongqing in February, one of four new factories due to begin operations by the end of next year. The company already has two assembly plants and an engine plant in operation there.

Like many other automakers, it is banking on the potential for growth in sales in China's vast hinterland, where most families have yet to buy their first cars and demand is expected to soar with rising incomes. The growing factory complex in Chongqing is part of Ford's plan to boost worldwide sales by nearly 50 percent by 2015, to about 8 million vehicles per year.

How much do cars sale for at public auctions?

I am thinking about buying a car from a auto auction. What is the average price or a range in which cars are usually sold at an auction for? I just want a basic car to get me from point a to point b.

That depends on year/make/model/mileage/condition. Most public auctions for vehicles are not retail quality. The primary source of buyers for these auctions are people that know enough about cars to perform whatever maintenance that is required to get them to run. Is isn't unheard of to buy a car for $200 or less. But the old saying is true "you get what you pay for." So don't expect to buy a creme puff. What you buy probably wont even pass emissions tests. Be prepared to spend at least an additional $500 to make it legal.

No telling who will bid what until the actual auction. If no one else bids, you can get it for the minimum bid.

As little as $50 up to $500

It really depends on what kind of car u are looking for.U have to understand that there are a lot of people bidding on the same car or truck, including dealers.I wouldn't go with any thing less than a couple of thousand in my pocket of with in easy access.Good Luck.

Where are hot spots that people leave cars for sale in Portland, OR?

Where I used to live there were select popular places people would leave their cars during the daytime that they were trying to sell. They normally had a detailed paper attached to a window with a contact number included. Anyone having grown up in the town knew what back sections of the lot to scope when looking for a car for sale by a private party.
So, I have not lived in the Portland area long, but realize this does not seem to happen here and if so, I clearly have not found it. Recently, I started to look for a new car and I have been scope numerous places including: Craigslist (which is normally full of scammers) and lots of recontructed titles, ebayclassifieds.com, and local papers inlcuding oregonlive.com. Can any one give me any tips on where else I may go to find cars for sale by private parties or at least non-dealers with a clean title.
This search has been endlessly tiresome and I would just like to find a decent, new-ish car with low mileage, clean title and no major mechanical problems without paying a fortune. No big deal, right? That is what everyone wants!? Well, it has been tough to come by.
Please let me know if you have any info, tips or advice, especially from locals. I would appreciate it.
Also, does anyone know anything about obtaining a dealer's license? I have also considered that route.

The wal-mart parking lot.

What is the easy way to re-sale cars from the auction without a dealer's license?

My friend has a dealer which I can use his license to go and bid some cars at the auction. I want to fix and sell later to make some money. But I can't have more than 3 cars in my name in 1 year period. And to have a dealer's license is really expensive and I don't have any location.

I was looking for rebuilder, wholesaler, junk, or scrap license are generally allowed to bid everywhere. But I couldn't find any solid information. Does anybody knows how to do it? I live in Miami, FL.

just buy and sell just those 3 cars. and if business is good for you youll have money for your own license.

If you are planning to sell more than three cars a year, it might be easiest and actually most beneficial for you to get the license depending on how much it costs. A license will come with other perks, like you can get dealer tags for people to test drive the cars, and you can legally buy and sell the cars without having to register them in your name.

I know of a ring of people that were collecting 'junk' cars from people, with signed titles, then selling the cars good enough to keep running to private buyers without ever putting info into the title or visiting the DMV. As far as paperwork was concerned, they never had posession of the car. They got caught for it and at least one is serving time for tax evasion.

So I'd seriously just check into what a license costs. If it's reasonable, go sell your first three cars, then take that money and get a license like the other person suggested.

What makes you think you can't have more than 3 cars in my name in 1 year period ? (Other than an unenforceable law ?)

You don't really think an inefficient government bureaucracy will know this do you ?

And what, pray tell would happen if you had 4 and they somehow caught you ?

The DEATH penalty ?

LOL

When do people put their cars up for sale?

It's been a while, and I've been wanting to purchase an Audi A6 (2006-2008), and I checked almost every website out there (private seller ONLY). Unfortunately, people are not selling their cars and I continue to wait for updates, yet there are none. My father says there will be more during March-May due to Taxes. I'm just so tired of waiting. Any advices? Around what month do you think there would be more cars for sale?

Between March and May as your father said, due to tax season, warmer weather, and high school kids getting anxious to own some wheels. :D

I've lost the service book for my Audi A6 - is it possible to get a new one? Can it affect cars sale?

I think its possible to get another, and getting it stamped back up again should be no problem either, as the servicing dealer will have your car on its computer system, detailng everytime its been serviced and so on.

I dont know whether it will affect the resale value, as the original book would have bar codes and info inside the front cover etc and i`m unsure if a replacement book would have the same stuff:

Bar code & info stickers come with the car from the manufacturer upon delivery you see, and are then stuck inside the cover of this book by the dealer.
