Most car buyers fixate on price -- and how that translates into
monthly loan payments -- without bothering to calculate other
long-term ownership costs. But comparing what you'll likely pay for
fuel, insurance and repairs over the time you own a vehicle makes
you a much smarter shopper -- and could save you thousands of
dollars.
SEE OUR SLIDE SHOW: 10 Cheapest Cars to Own
We asked Vincentric , an automotive data firm, for a list of vehicles with the lowest
five-year ownership costs, including repairs, maintenance, taxes,
fuel, insurance, financing with a five-year loan, the opportunity
cost of not investing your out-of-pocket expenses elsewhere, and
depreciation (the calculations assume you will sell the vehicle
after five years). Comparing those autos with ones that did well in
Kiplinger's annual rankings -- in which we reward performance,
value and safety -- we found the best bang for the buck in four
categories.
Hybrid and electric cars see record sales in March
24.05.12
DETROIT — Americans are buying record numbers of hybrid and electric cars as gas prices climb and new models arrive in showrooms, giving the vehicles their greatest share yet of the U.S. auto market.
Consumers bought a record 52,000 gas-electric hybrids and all-electric cars in March, up from 34,000 during the same month last year.
The two categories combined made up 3.64 percent of total U.S. sales, their highest monthly market share ever, according to Ward's AutoInfoBank. The previous high was 3.56 percent in July 2009, when the Cash for Clunkers program encouraged people to trade in old gas guzzlers for more fuel-efficient cars.
And while their share of the market remains small, it's a big leap from the start of the year, when hybrids and electrics made up 2.38 percent of new car sales.
Buyers were drawn by new models like the Toyota Prius C subcompact, the Prius V wagon and Camry hybrid. Gas prices near or above $4 per gallon added to the cars' attraction.

Where can i get a really cheap car? One thats isn't a peice of junk and in good shape. I do prefer a honda over other cars but ill take what i can get. Thanks
If you want to buy a high quality car with a lowest price for the most reliable,I suggest you try auto auctions.
There are there kinds of car auctions.
Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee.
Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high.
Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100.
Two months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online police auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet .
I followed the guide on
http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t =usedcar .That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one.
Good luck!

The value of a car is determined by several things.
1. Its desirability, which includes reputation, style, etc.
2. Its condition, mileage, interior, exterior, mechanical, etc
3. It's cost of upkeep and repair.
The Honda you are looking for fits into all these classes and is going to be hard to find at any serious discount.
I would change my criteria for a cheap car. I have found the best values for cars have been the ones that the elderly had in their garages and hardly drove for the last years of their lives. Usually they are well maintained and in great condition. However they will be makes like Mercury and Buick, and be models and colors that the younger set would cringe at.
Just check around in the over 55 communities and get yourself a deal that will last a while.

A car for 100 dollars is not going to be in any kind of running condition or take no less than thousands to fix.

buy a light rolling chassis 1967 or earlier in most states of a major brand with a common engine, 1965 or earlier in california it should cost around $1500-$3000 for one with little rust, a decent diff, and decent brakes, but i advise you get one with little rust. buy a fully dressed new engine with a 4 bolt main which would cost you $4000-$5000 and an overdrive transmission, which would cost you around $1500-$2500 for all the parts you'd need to do it. then upgrade the suspension, which would cost you $200-$1000 based on what you want to use it for. buy a non emissions compliant mufflers, a top flow air filter, and a ram air hood, and a racing aluminum radiator which would cost about $1400. It would take about a day assuming you've bought good parts if you could do it yourself and bought a direct fit engine. A good mechanic would cost you from 500-1000 and would take about a week. Then you would have a hobby, new friends, something to leave your kids, something that has fuel economy similar to new economy cars on the interstate, a car that appreciates in value, faster than cars in the $30ks and safe for 8600 to 13900. you'd have to have cash or take out a personal loan, which usually has higher rates than an automotive loan. If that's too much work look in a shopper, news paper classifieds, an auto trader and the internet, just remember people usually have a reason to sell something other than they need the money. if you want absolute bang for your buck try a geo metro which costs around $500 and you can get 40-50 mpg with a tough little motor, and you can drive it as hard as you want without really worrying about the consequences.

I've had my bad run with cars before. When I was younger I got int 4 accidents in like a year and a half. My parents told me I had to buy my own next car so I got a job and started looking around. The best deals I found were through government auctions. At government auctions, they sell repossessed cars taking for IRS debt and the like and they sell them to the highest bidder. I got my 2005 Celica for $3000 when the retail price is around 12,000. I'd suggest looking into it. It worked for me.

It really depends on what you're looking for and what your needs are. I agree Hondas and Toyotas are always good choices , but there are others too. Check out this website for all your options:
