A 2011 Chevy Aveo (the “example” economy car that is mentioned on Enterprise’s website) gets 30 miles to the gallon, compared to the 29 mpg of your current car. That means, over the course of the trip, you’re going to eat up three more gallons with your own car, costing you about $12.
Now, if you were to get a 2011 Toyota Prius for that “economy” price, you’d get 50 miles to the gallon, compared to the 29 mpg of your current car. That means, over the course of the trip, you’re going to eat up 36 more gallons than with your own car, costing you $144 (assuming gas prices are at $4 this summer).
In this example, then, the cost of renting a car with a similar fuel efficiency to your own is roughly equal over the long run. The catch, of course, is that many of the costs associated with your own car are delayed. You don’t pay for the maintenance now and the depreciation doesn’t affect you now. Those things impact you later down the road.
OKLAHOMA City, Okla. -- The quest to make compressed natural gas (CNG) a prominent petroleum alternative received a boost this week when The Hertz Corp. announced it will begin renting CNG vehicles at Will Rogers Airport here next month.
Eight Honda Civic NGs and two CNG GMC Yukons will be added to Hertz's fleet, the rental car company said. The new rental vehicles made their first appearance at Wednesday's Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game.
"Hertz is committed to providing our customers with a full spectrum of vehicle options to suit their rental needs, including clean-emission vehicles such as CNG, electric vehicles, as well as other fuel-efficient vehicles included in our Green Traveler Collection," said Mark Frissora, chairman and CEO of Hertz. "As more low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles become available for general use, we will continue to expand our rental fleet, reflecting our dedication to offering sustainable travel options."
CNG is locally produced, cleaner burning, more abundant and cheaper than petroleum, according to experts.

We want to rent a van and drive from Arizona to Kansas, only 1100 miles... every polace i looked will charge extra per mile outside of AZ, any one know of good place to get cheap rental without having to pay expensive pricy miles out side of state????
Look in the phone book (yellow pages) for "Rent a Wreck". Contrary to the name, they rent pretty descent cars for a lot less than Avis, Hertz, etc., If they happen to have a van, you can save $. The one here in town charges a flat rate per day/week/month, no mileage.

Most require you to be 21 or 25 years old to rent.... cost would depend on type car, how long, etc. so no way to give an answer....insurance woud be if you took theirs or used your own insurance. Rent-A-Wreck is the cheapest car rental I know of.
