Big spenders are back for cars, boats, two West Palm Beach retailers say
Two high-end retailers say the big spenders are back.
At Marine Connection Inc. in West Palm Beach, which sells new and used boats, co-owner Danny Goldenberg said sales were $10 million last year and are on track to reach $12 million to $13 million this year.
The reason: Buyers of new boats have returned, up about 50 percent from a year ago.
"People are more inclined to buy new," Goldenberg said. Marine Connection is the largest seller of new and used boats in Palm Beach County, with around 300 boats for sale, he said.
In addition, Lamborghini Palm Beach in West Palm Beach reports robust sales by buyers who can plunk down $50,000 in deposits on the high-end exotic cars as they wait for delivery, said Erik Day, chief financial officer for the Warren Henry Auto Group, which acquired the dealership in April 2010.
Heavy marketing, special events and driving events at Palm Beach International Raceway have fueled customers' interest in the vehicles, which range in price from the low $400,000s up to the mid-$500,000s.
