Acceptable in the 1980s - And Now You Can Have One

LONDON, March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Fashions come and go, but sooner or later every period comes back into vogue as each generation passes on the baton of what is and isn't cool.
The 1980s has recently been undergoing something of a renaissance, with Lady Gaga appropriating Madonna's style, royal couple Will and Kate reminding many of the halcyon days of Charles and Diana, and 80s-flavoured TV icons like Gene Hunt of Ashes to Ashes.
Cars are no exception - and nostalgia fans who grew up in the 1980s may well want to make their next used car purchase one of the decade's most iconic motors.
Here are our top five cult cars from the 1980s for our dream used car market:
VW Golf GTI - Could this be the ultimate 1980s aspirational Yuppie car? Its hot hatch version was symbolic of the period, and its unbeatable power to weight ratio made it ideal for city boys with pastel shirts and jumper slung casually over the shoulders, not to mention aerobics instructors doing Jane Fonda's workouts.
LONDON, February 28, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
According to a report on BBC's 'One Show' last night (Feb 23), over £24bn is spent every year on used cars - but how much of that is on cars with a hidden history?
Getting an independent inspection is vital in ensuring that the car you are spending your hard-earned cash on is fit for purchase.
This doesn't just mean that it is roadworthy, though of course the parts need to be in good working order. If you are planning to buy any kind of used car, then it's worth bearing in mind that a car's history may have hidden pitfalls, from outstanding finance that you may be liable for, to damages through being written off.
And even if you have bought it innocently, if there is outstanding finance on the vehicle it remains the property of the finance company. Only by checking the vehicle yourself can you ensure you are covered.
As reported on the BBC 'One Show', an Experian VehicleCheck will guarantee you cover for the data uncovered in the report, and can give you the peace of mind that you have made the right purchase - even if the paperwork a dealer gives you seems to show the car is clean. It runs 26 checks and carries out searches for finance agreements.

How can I find out about bank repo cars for sale?
Jun 30, 2009 by LebDan | Posted in Buying & Selling
I am low on cash (after going through graduate school) and I am looking to my a decent car. I bought a car at a local auction once and was very successful! So I just thought of bank repo cars. Can you help me or point me a direction where I could find out some more about bank repo cars?
as the above poster said, most banks send their cars to auction, you might want to try credit unions in your area, good luck
bayareart1 | Jun 30, 2009
You can contact your local bank to see if they have any inventory. Most banks send their cars directly to dealer auctions so they don't keep them around long.
Public auctions are always high risk for finding a reliable car but you have to give up something to get a great price.
Before I'd go the auction route I'd obsessively search Craigslist for bargains from private sellers.

There are lots of resources out there, but this site pools most of them so you can check out not only bank repo cars but police seized ones as well or government surplus autos. GovernmentAuctions.org I used their site last year to track down 2001 Chevy Tahoe. It was in great condition and I only spent about 8K on it.

Most banks & credit unions sell their repos at dealer only auctions.
Some of the smaller ones try to "retail" them first but they usually are not reasonable on the price untill it gets to auction.

What are the average rates of buyin repo cars in the US?

what is the average price and rate of repo cars in the US..
thankq
basically when u go for a repo car.. how much discount can you expect? How much can you save by opting these cars?
The price can vary tremendously, as sometimes they can for as little 10% of book value, and sometimes they go for more than book value. On average though, you should be able to get one cheaper than buying from a dealer, and for sure cheaper than new. I did a google search but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on prices. You'd have to check with your local auction houses and see what information they have.
You can certainly get a good deal on one though. If you do your homework, and make sure you get a newer vehicle, you shouldn't have any problems getting a good car for a low price. There's a few websites out there that can answer a lot better than I can. I've included a link to one at the bottom if you're interested.

That info is probably not available, and could only be a guesstimate....I know I would never buy one due to the lack of any maintenance history available

Not sure what you are asking for.
The average price of all cars in the USA that have been repossessed? And the percentage of cars sold that end up being repossessed.
Please include more details

Where can I access repo cars for sale?
May 17, 2010 by Jenny | Posted in Buying & Selling
I've been searching for sites that have repo cars for sale but everything wants me to pay a price to access the information so that means it's probably trying to rip me off right?
Internet web sites are not free. It costs the operator/publisher money to run the web site and to post. (That's why Yahoo! has those annoying pop-up ads on every page)
If you want the information posted on these web sites, you are expected to pay for them.

you would be taking a gamble on buying a repo car, even if you could buy one in the first place...............repo cars are not sold to the public, only to places like auto dealers
Happy Gramps | May 17, 2010
It is not a rip off. it is a way to guarantee a buyer. many ordinary people shop around and wait for a good price without putting anything up front. Those types of people will usually back off of deals.
Usually buying off auction and repos are for dealers. or for people who want a project car/non-daily driver.

Where do you buy repo cars in Denver?
Apr 20, 2008 by TheQuyen | Posted in Buying & Selling
see, i got into this car accident and now my car is not repairable anymore and so i'm looking for a new car now. I've heard that if you're unable to pay your car payment monthly, the bank will send the repo man and repossess your car. The bank will then put that repo car on sale and sell it at a much cheaper price. Is that true? If so, where do you buy these repo cars in Denver? Is it a good idea to buy repo cars?
I deal with a lot of repo cars. Most have been put through the ringer. A guy knows the repo man is coming and doesnt change oil, or even vacuum the car.
They go to an auction - usually a dealer wholesale auction. Mine is www.copart.com - but again, these are for dealers only.
Usually banks dont hassle with selling their repos to the public. They would rather the car go to a dealer or wholesaler because its a lot less hassle. Banks dont have dealer licenses, service departments, or the ability to get everyone finance. This is faster and much easier on them
