Avon Tyres Awards Custom Motorcycle to Lucky Avon Tyres Dealer Clint Lawrence ...
24.05.12
STOW, OH – March 2, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Avon Motorcycle Tyres North America (Avon Tyres) was thrilled to award its custom built Avon 100th anniversary motorcycle to winning Avon Tyres dealer Clint Lawrence of JC Motors, Irvine, Calif. Lawrence and his wife Jessica were awarded the motorcycle during a special ceremony held at the 2012 Dealer Expo on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m., booth 1037. Lawrence, who has been an Avon Tyres dealer since 1994, could not stop smiling.
“It was incredible for us to win this amazing motorcycle, and we are thankful to Avon for putting this contest together for the dealers,” stated Lawrence. “I felt like the best way to win was just to focus on selling more tires!”
The motorcycle giveaway was part of the 2011 Avon Tyres Marketing Alliance Program (AMAP), and eligibility was based upon tire sales between March 1 and Dec. 31. Each time an AMAP dealer purchased a tire from their AMAP distributor, they earned a chance to win the motorcycle. The winner was selected by a random drawing.
The Métisse Returns With An All-New Engine | Modern Mongrels
24.05.12
When Italian entrepreneur Gerry Lisi launched Métisse a few years back, he started simple, with a reproduction of the Rickman brothers' most iconic model. Dubbed the McQueen Métisse, this was an exact replica of the mid-’60s Triumph TR6-powered Mark III desert sled that actor Steve McQueen once called his “favorite bike.” This gorgeous reproduction captured lots of attention and put the Métisse name back on the map—110 examples of this $23,000 motorcycle have been delivered to date. But Lisi’s intention has always been to manufacture modern versions powered by an all-new, proprietary engine. Now the time has come for that project to go live with the Métisse Mark 5 Street Scrambler and Café Racer models, officially launched at last fall’s NEC Motorcycle Show in Birmingham, England.
Both bikes are powered by Métisse’s own air/oil-cooled, eight-valve, 1000cc parallel-twin. Designed by ex-Formula 1 engineer Tim Baker and manufactured by Specialised Engine Services, a leading British F1 supplier, this compact engine is rated at 97 bhp and 70 lb.-ft. of torque. Both models share the same nickel-plated, chromoly, double-cradle frame, fitted with a classic-looking Ceriani-style Paioli fork and twin Falcon shocks. Brembo brakes, Avon tires on wire-spoke Alpina alloy rims and other top-of-the-line components befit a bike that is expected to sell for $27,000.

what tire pressure for avon motorcycle tires?
Oct 21, 2006 by gnjfitz | Posted in Motorcycles
Always inflate your tires to the bike manufacturers specification, the psi marked on the sidewall is the tires maximum...
barfoeng | Oct 21, 2006
you need to go to Avon dot coma and look around there and or ask your tire rep
because they all differ and it also depends on what type of bike you have them on
good luck
ft3535 | Oct 21, 2006
Look on the side of the tire. It will tell you the psi
goldwing127959 | Oct 21, 2006
Look on the sidewall for tire pressure and then look in the owners manuel for your reommended tire pressure
eldoradodave | Oct 21, 2006
All good answers so far.I agree with the first 3
bill b | Oct 21, 2006
the preasure accually depends on the bike its in your manual and on the bike ussually on the swing arm.
larry_073 | Oct 21, 2006
Look on the side of the tires it's stamped on them.
txhypnotist | Oct 21, 2006
If this is for a sportbike ignore the answers with check the side walls. That may be a good pressure for maximum longevity but the tire wont grip worth sh*t in the corners. As the first responder said you'll need to talk to an Avon rep as what is a good tire pressure for the model of tire and what youre using it for ie: Racing, fast street riding, casual street riding. I tend to run 35 Fr 36 rear, but i have pilot powers not Avons.
rashmaster13 | Oct 21, 2006
Read barfoeng's answer. You can use the same model # tire on different bikes. But every motorcycle requires it's own tire pressure for optimum performance. And that is determined by the research & development departments of each motorcycle manufacture.

Who's the expert on motorcycle tires?
Aug 24, 2007 by Bob | Posted in Motorcycles
I have an 87 Cbr 600 with a 130/80/17 rear and 110/80/17 front. Most of the tires I can get for the bike are H-rated and in the sport/touring category. Choices are Michelin Pilot Activ, Bridgestone Battlax BT-45,Metzler lasertec and Avon Road Rider which are the only V-rated, and the cheapest for some reason. If anyone has some 1st hand knowledge of any of these tires I would appreciate it. Thanks .
Call a cycle shop and talk to them. 619-590-5389 Motoworld

You might want to check with Victoria's Secret....burning through rubbers since 1970.

Avon, I have been riding on them for 30 years, best tire going.
mycoldfeet | Aug 24, 2007
Dunlop if you want H rated tires for high speeds.
D-401.

I like Metzler but I pefer a z rated tire[200mph]
chopperchopster | Aug 24, 2007
I second the vote for the Avons. I have had excellent experience with them. Good grip and long wear. Plus, you want that V rating in a CBR 600.

metzler are a great tire, H rated should not be put on abike that size

Can I tell if a Motorcycle Tire is Tubeless or has a Tube, without taking it off?
Jun 19, 2007 by ze_ro_ma_vo | Posted in Motorcycles
The bike is a 2005 Suzuki V-Strom, original on the front,
Avon Potenzia on the back.
Most are made to be tubeless. It will say if it is on the sidewall.
To tell if a tube is installed, you look at the valve stem. If it's all rubber, and looks like one on a car, then no tube. If it has a nut on the valve stem to hold it in place, you have a tube installed.
Some people (like me) have been known to run tubes in tubeless tires on cast rims.
Firecracker . | Jun 19, 2007
it will tel you on the side of the tire and that one is tubeless
51 | Jun 19, 2007
it will say on the tire.
keith_19798@yahoo.com | Jun 19, 2007
contact a Tire Business and tell them the type, size, and they should be able to tell you...you know they are quite helpful if you tell them you are in need of their expertise.....
Stuck in HB | Jun 19, 2007
It is probably tubeless. Generally is you have cast rims then they are tubless. If it has spokes then it will have a tube.
ffroadking | Jun 19, 2007
the most common way is if the wheel is a spoke wheel, then it has a tube in it, this is because there is now way to seal the wheel where the spokes come thru the center of the wheel, so you've got a rim strip and a tube. Now that said, that does not mean all mag wheels don't have a tube in them, but most commonly mags don't have tubes and spoke wheels do have a tube. also the side of the tire should say tubeless if it is,,,tubeless

Best tires for '04 Ducati ST3 Sport Touring Motorcycle.?
Aug 01, 2009 by EJP777 | Posted in Motorcycles
Looking for the Best wet / dry handling tires. Getting High Mileage from them is not my 1st concern. Choosing from: Avon Storm ST, Michelin Pilot Road 2CT, Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Anything else worth looking at?
By the way, I should explain. A Ducati or any other High-Performance Italian Motorcycle, will not use the same tires that are used on Harley's. As Harley's are street cruiser or long distance touring bikes, they have practically no lean angle. You can't lean a Harley over very far in turns without hitting floorboards or pipes.. That's not what Harley's are made for. Thus, ME880's are designed for Harley's and are flatter on top. Tires for Sport Bikes, have a rounded top profile, allowing the bike to lean fully into the turn. Thereby the tire is running on it's sidewall as the bike leans all the way over going fast through turns. A Sport Bike, even a Sport Touring rider can lean in on a turn and get their inside knee out and down for balance. Watch a Moto GP or World Superbike Race and you'll see the kind of turning these bikes can do, almost lying them on their side, the riders knee is used to drag on the ground as sort of an outrigger, 3rd point of contact.
Go for a Pilot Road 2 on the back and a Pilot Power or Metzeler M3 on the front.
Great grip in the wet (and dry) and you should get at least 10,000kms from them.
I tried an Avon Storm and it was disappointing. Worn out by 6000 and not very grippy. Haven't tried a Z6 but have heard they last very well but again, the grip is not so great.
You will be able to take the PR2 right to the edge with confidence. The PR2 front tyres last exceptionally well (18000km from my last one) but it seemed to go "off" before the tread wore out. Felt very wooden towards the end of its life. I now run an M3 on the front and rear but will be switching back to a PR2 for the rear as I do too many highway miles and it has just been wasted.
