Driver trying to escape trooper caught after blowing out tires in St. Lucie
PORT ST. LUCIE — A West Palm Beach man accused of fleeing a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in a chase in Martin and St. Lucie counties, was arrested on several charges, according to an affidavit released Tuesday.
Roshaw Maritan Stringer, 27, eventually was found in the bed of a Florida Power & Light Co. utility truck near the area on Becker Road, where FHP officials say he crashed after blowing out two tires while trying to drive through ornamental plants.
The case began at 11:50 p.m. Sunday as the trooper conducted speed enforcement efforts on Interstate 95 in Martin County about three miles north of High Meadow Avenue. The trooper measured a white vehicle's speed at 86 mph, which is faster than the posted limit.
The trooper also reported the vehicle traveled less than a car's length from the vehicle in front of it and was driving recklessly.
The trooper got the vehicle to stop on I-95 two miles south of State Road 714. The driver, later identified as Stringer, said he left his license at home, but gave his registration and insurance card. He said his license wasn't suspended.
