Electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf have been on the market for a couple of years. Now a South Jersey dealership is the first in the region to offer electric motorcycles.
When you think motorcycle you think of the roar of a Harley, but the Zero motorcycles sound like a golf cart on steroids. This model can go up to 80 miles per hour and can run 100 miles before running out of juice. Ted Eckenhoff owns the Cherry Hill dealership. He's excited about the concept of a clean motorcycle that is almost maintenance free.
"It's something I see with the price of gas as people using for commuting people using it for their shore house, it's quiet it's maintenance free. The only thing you have to do to it is put tires on it or brakes," said Eckenhoff.
Ted's son Glenn Eckenhoff has been riding motorcycles since he was 10 and says the bike turns heads.
"You get stares, but I think they are looking for why is there no noise. It's a good looking bike it's not like they are looking at it for the looks, they are looking at it because why doesn't it make any noise. When I was sitting in traffic on (Route) 73, I could hear people talking about me," he said.
What matters is what's in a person's head, not on it

I just knew someone was going to say something about helmet laws after the recent crashes on Maui (Letters, March 28). Some very good people were killed and injured, but really? A helmet law?
Although I respect those who do wear helmets, if you truly look at what kills motorcyclists remember the acronym SAVE. Speed: Going too fast can kill you if you hit a fixed or moving object with or without a helmet. Alcohol: Balance and coordination are adversely affected by alcohol and drugs. Vehicle: Some people tend to modify their vehicles beyond manufacturer specifications (see speed). Others tend to neglect things like tire wear and general maintenance. A sputtering engine or bald tires on a motorcycle are very distracting, not to mention dangerous. Experience: Ride within your limits. If group riding is not comfortable, ride solo for a while. Ride with people who you know practice safety.
The letter writer also criticizes the lawmakers for not doing something about helmet laws. They are doing something. They are keeping their jobs. Motorcyclists are vigilant, vocal voters who have the resources and lobbying power to keep their rights protected.

What are the best motorcycle tires for a yamaha 2001 YZF R6?
Aug 15, 2007 by Rod E | Posted in Motorcycles
Michelin Pilot Powers, or Power 2CT's if you're going to really lay it over.
It's pretty much all you see on sportsbikes (around here) these days - bloody good tyre.

Best MOTORCYCLE TIRES FOR A GSXR 600?
Aug 02, 2010 by alexsmartpants | Posted in Motorcycles
I need a new rear tire for my 2002 Suzuki GSXR 600. This will be my first time buying tires for it and I would like to hear some suggestions/recommendations on brands for tires. My budget for a rear tire is $200 and this is the tire size 180/55/ZR17. I use my bike every day for work and I do both highway and city driving as well as a lot of curves if this makes a difference.
That is the cost to your door, learn on to mount your own.
I have Metzeler ME880's on my cruiser, has as sticky as anyone's with far mileage. A lot miles per costs.

hmmm, simple answer to a simple question :)
Brigestone battleaxe BT002...you wont be sorry!
Or look for a tyre with a hard centre compound, and
soft walls.

I had a really good experience with Continental Road Attacks. They are fairly inexpensive. They also wear really well, and have enough grip for anything the street can throw at them, though they aren't an ideal track day tire. I would buy them again in a second. Plus, the tread pattern looks kind of cool if that matters to you.
There are lots of good choices though.

Not one person asked you what you had on the front tire--my goodness.Unless you are going to buy a full set,you should probably stick to the same one that you have on the front. You see, tire and bike manufacturers do not recommend switching tires because each has their own compound hard or soft and mixing the 2 can prove to make your bike a little squirrely

What is the best brand of motorcycle tires for my bike?

2006 zx 1400..........
1st/ Avon / 2nd/ Metzler/ 3rd/ Dunlop all three are great tires
Nightrain | Jul 13, 2007
round rubber ones will do best
Mo | Jul 12, 2007
Its really a matter of personal tastes..I would look at the compound the tyres are made of so you can decide if you want a sticky tyre or not...although I imagine none of them are going to last long on the zx!

I have had a Hayabusa and a GSX 1000 and now a Harley FatBoy....Avon or Metzler are the two best...Metzler being my favorite...always replace stock Dunlop...they don't last as long as the above or stick to the road as well.

Michelin Pilot Power if you want performance
paul | Jul 12, 2007
that's a heavy bike so fit the original equip. on it or you will be wearing them out at light speed
In the sport bike world you will want to stay away from avon, chen sheng and dunlop
stick to metzeler M3
Mich. Pilot power 2ct (these have a harder center and soft shoulder)
Bridgestone bt021 also have the dual comp. as above
pirelli corsa 3 have a dual compound as well

What is the best way to break in brand new motorcycle tires?
Mar 06, 2007 by SFAcoustic | Posted in Motorcycles
On my 89' Ninja 750, the new rear tire has scared me more than a few times. VERY slippery at first (which I hear is normal) but now I have about 80 miles on it and I still will slip on a decent right turn, for example. On Friday, I was out in 60 degree weather and I turned right, the wheel slipped and my right foot kicked the ground HARD in response and somehow I did not go down. There must be a better, safer way than this to break in the edges of tires? I am not even taking a knee or anything crazy!
The tire is OEM fit, Maxxis rear tire. The fit is exactly OEM, if that helps. 150/70 18 inch rear.
Cheng Shin uses a very waxy mold release agent. This stuff will give you trouble in the cold, as you noticed. It does not come off in 1/4 mile as stated above. It will come off in warm weather, but not in the cold. Your best bet: warm water, dish soap and a scotch brite pad. Scuff all the way out past the edge of the tread, up into the sidewall. Do the front tire too. This is the reason I don't mount new ones until May. I like thier tires, they last and have good grip at a low price. Got a set on the Honda right now. When the Dunlop wears out this summer, the HD gets a new set of Made in Taiwan tires, too.
